With #WANGSQUAD out in full force this weekend, Alexander Wang used his AW16 runway to debut “Temples”, a new track from Philly DJ Baauer which features alternate verses from two of our favourite rappers of all time: G-Dragon and M.I.A.

Baauer’s latest offering is playful and exploding with energy, featuring back-and-forth verses from the two rappers spread over some heavyweight 808 bass. “Step into my temple and you see me on my throne, gold on the dome, don’t drop that drone,” spits M.I.A., before G-Dragon dives in with some punchy verses of his own, rapping: “Everybody heard about me, everybody know, faster than a hunter with an arrow to the bow.”

While this is only the second time that K-Pop megastar G-Dragon has been used to soundtrack a show, his lyrical presence at New York Fashion Week should come as no surprise. With a wardrobe full of off-the-runway pieces from Givenchy, Saint Laurent, Rick Owens andBalmain alongside avant-streetwear from Hood By Air, KTZ and Ambush, his fashion credentialsare all part of his crossover appeal and prolific popularity.

Alexander Wang premiered this new M.I.A, G-DRAGON track at his AW16 Show

Alexander Wang is making K-pop his thing. After already casting badass Korean rapper CL in his SS16 #WANGSQUAD last week, the designer then premiered the track “Temple” featuring Korean mega-star G-Dragon alongside M.I.A and American producer (and fellow #WANGSQUAD member) Baauer at his AW16 show in New York last night. With Baauer providing the stuttering backing track, M.I.A and G-Dragon alternately deliver the verses to provide one of the best K-pop crossovers out there.

G-Dragon has been a major feature of the fashion scene in recent seasons, though this is the first time his work has soundtrack-ed a show. The artist, who in addition to his solo exploits, fronts the majorly successful boy band BIGBANG, has been a front row fixture at Saint-Laurent, Lanvin, Rick Owens, Hood by Air and Chanel for some time as brands look to harness his major selling power. He now becomes Wang’s latest musical muse, joining the likes of A$AP Rocky, Grimes and Die Antwoord, all of whom have inspired the designer in the past.
