[Article] [YG Life] “BIGBANG Has Comeback Stronger Than 4 Years Ago” UK NME Gives Full Marks

[동아닷컴=전효진 기자] Group BIGBANG has taken over the public with their new song ‘Still Life’ which they released in 4 years, along with having their musical abilities recognized.

On the 6th (local time), UK’s renowned music review platform New Music Express (hereinafter NME) shed spotlight on BIGBANG’s new song ‘Still Life’ and gave 5 stars out of 5.

NME said ‘Still Life’ “Is a memoir. It has all life’s joy and sorrow of growth and time. It gifted music fans, who waited all this time, with hope”.

They then added “Although the new song doesn’t mention what will happen to BIGBANG now, one thing that is clear is that BIGBANG has comeback stronger and greater than before”.

NME mentioned both the vocal and rap part by introducing lyrics such as “Goodbye now to my beloved young days/ Our beautiful spring, summer, autumn and winter/ A seven colored rainbow slanted like a sneer/ Passed the seasons without maturing/ I can’t mature (Still)”, and said they portrayed the order of emotions through the lens of seasons from the past to present. NME further explained it’s a sentiment that’s familiar to fans, in particular with ‘Last Dance’ released in 2016 which says “I’ve gotten older so I/ Guess I become an adult/ Why am I so anxious”.

The platform stressed how G-DRAGON and T.O.P took part in the lyrics and composition process and said “Still Life’ excels at bringing out the unique vocal tones of each member, and the arrangement and flow of melodies leave room for listeners to look back on the song”.

U.S. critic magazine Rolling Stone also shed light on BIGBANG’s comeback and music. Rolling Stone said “The K-POP legend has come back. They made it clear that BIGBANG’s story hasn’t ended yet. Still Life is a legendary song that both portrays heartache and hope at the same time.

BIGBANG drew on the order of life that blooms and falls hopelessly through ‘Still Life’. It also expressed the concerns of the past and hope for the future. The beautiful melody and metaphorical lyrics, along with BIGBANG’s sincere storyline, makes all listeners look back on their life. This is why it’s being loved by so many music fans.

The song took the first spot on the iTunes chart in 33 different countries after it was released on the 5th, rocketing up to the top of the Worldwide Chart. It also swept music charts of major Chinese and Japanese sites QQ music and Line Music. It then took the first spot on Korean charts such as Melon’s Top 100 24 Hits, Flo, Genie, Bugs, and Vibe, keeping the title for 4 straight days.
