Channel A Reports That Seungri Admitted To Soliciting Prostitution During Pretrial Detention Warrant Questioning

May 18, 2019

On May 18, Channel A’s “News A” announced that they had the exclusive report on Seungri’s statement during his pretrial detention warrant questioning on May 14.

The questioning on May 14 took place because the police had requested pretrial detention warrants for Seungri and Yoo In Suk. These warrants allow a suspect to be detained for longer than 48 hours. After questioning Seungri and Yoo In Suk, the court ultimately dismissed the police’s requests.

The suspicions listed on the police requests included mediating prostitution services, embezzlement, violating the Food Sanitation Act, and in Seungri’s case, purchasing prostitution services. According to reports, Seungri denied this last charge during two questionings by police, acknowledging that there had been sexual relations but not that he had purchased prostitution services.

However, Channel A’s report on May 18 stated that Seungri had admitted to soliciting prostitution during his pretrial detention warrant questioning.

He reportedly told the court, “It is true that I had sexual relations with a female employee of an adult entertainment establishment after paying money. I am now reflecting on my actions. As a celebrity, I found it hard to admit to suspicions of soliciting prostitution.”

Seungri continued to deny the other suspicions mentioned in the police warrant requests.

According to the police, they are planning to recommend Seungri’s case for prosecution sometime next week.

Military Manpower Administration Shares Update On Seungri’s Enlistment

May 16, 2019

The Military Manpower Administration has given an update regarding Seungri’s military enlistment.

On May 16, a source from the Military Manpower Administration stated, “Seungri is not required to enlist before June 25. His enlistment is postponed until June 25, and the Military Manpower Administration will send Seungri another draft notice once that date passes.”

The source continued, “Requesting a postponement is entirely up to the individual. When Seungri receives his new draft notice, he must decide whether or not he wants to postpone again.”

Seungri is currently under suspicions of mediating prostitution, embezzling, receiving prostitution services, and violating The Food Sanitation Act. The source from the Military Manpower Administration said, “It is hard to make a connection between the possibility of Seungri being forwarded to prosecution and his enlistment. Unless it’s a situation where the law prohibits [his enlistment], such as him being detained and unable to enlist, it will not affect his enlistment in any way.”

Seungri and Yoo In Suk attended questioning to determine the validity of requests by the police for their detention warrants on May 14. Judge Shin Jong Yeol of the Seoul Central District Court ultimately dismissed the requests and explained, “There is room for dispute in regards to the main suspicion, which is embezzlement. It is also difficult to recognize a reason for detention, such as potential destruction of evidence, in regards to the remaining suspicions.”
