Seungri blames whistleblower, journalist for Burning Sun scandal

By Lee Min-young

Seungri, who is at the center of the Burning Sun scandal, has blamed a whistleblower and a journalist for all the criminal allegations brought up against him.

In a text message to a director of SBS’s investigative program, “Unanswered Questions,” the former member of BIGBANG claimed the whistleblower and the journalist ― who played vital roles in bringing the issue to public attention ― did not check facts properly and ruined his career for their own personal gain.

“They illegally leaked my personal information from my mobile phone and framed the act as a tip-off done for the sake of justice,” Seungri wrote in the message revealed Saturday. “The obscure lawyer had an interview with media … And the journalist reported the story without checking the facts properly for her own benefit.”

“Because I belonged to an agency, I could not refute against those allegations effectively. I think they knew my situation and took advantage of it.”

In an interview with local daily Chosun Ilbo, Seungri denied the allegations of sexual and financial wrongdoings, urging everyone to wait until the investigation results come out.

He told the newspaper, however, that people would not believe him even if probe results clear him of suspicions. These include directing his staff at the Burning Sun club to provide sexual services to his investors and embezzling money from business accounts.

Seungri also denied his previous statement that he was in charge of Burning Sun, saying Lee Moon-ho was the CEO and real operator of the club and he only invested 10 million won ($8,800) into the business and let him use the name of Seungri for marketing.

He also went on saying that he was not aware of any illegal activities allegedly committed there, including the alleged spiking of women’s drinks and filming of nonconsensual sex videos. “I spoke with Lee Moon-ho about this but he always told me everything was going well with the club.” he said.

When asked about Jung Joon-young, a singer who was recently arrested for filming and distributing sex videos of women, Seungri claimed he told him to stop sharing such videos in Kakao chat rooms.

If there was one thing I did wrong, Seungri said, it was the fact that he was “acting too childish.” He said he regrets saying things that he shouldn’t have and urged his fans to judge him after probe results are released.

Kim Lim Denies Any Involvement In Recent Controversy After Being Named By Seungri In Interview

Kim Lim Denies Any Involvement In Recent Controversy After Being Named By Seungri In Interview

Mar 24, 2019

Kim Lim, a Singaporean socialite and the daughter of the owner of soccer club Valencia CF, has personally spoken out about Seungri and his lawyer mentioning her name in recent interviews.

On March 23, an interview Seungri conducted with Chosun Ilbo was published and while talking about an allegation that he was trying to hire sexual escort services for foreign investors, he mentioned Kim Lim by name. He said, “In the Club Arena case, it’s regarding a woman from Singapore called Kimmy. She’s the daughter of a famous soccer club owner. I’ve received a lot of help from her, so I just wanted to look out for her.” According to him, the women were called to keep Kim Lim company. His lawyer made similar claims in an interview as well.

In response Kim Lim took to her personal Instagram account’s story function to speak up about the issue. Her statement reads as follows:

My name has been embroiled in the K-pop scandal that’s unfolding right now in South Korea.

Some time before the news broke, I received a phone call from Seungri. It turns out there has been a leaked conversation of him allegedly soliciting prostitutes for his investors. He asked me a few weird questions and hung up. I don’t know why he called me and how I was involved in this saga at all. Needless to say, after the call I was left completely confused.

When this news broke out, Seungri said the chat is entirely fabricated and that it’s fake news. However the police later says it isn’t.

Today, a media statement was released by Seungri’s lawyer telling his side of the story. The article suggested that he arranged for me to party together with other girls, which he claims are not prostitutes.

To clarify, on December 9, 2015, I was in Korea with my friends from Singapore. We went to Club Arena for a night out, and Seungri arranged for a VIP table for our group. We partied by ourselves and left after.

In no way were there other patrons or staff who accompanied our group. I certainly never asked for any “girls” to party with me. This can be vouched for by the four people who were part of our group that night.

I am embroiled in this matter simply because I happened to be there that night. I was simply at the wrong place and the wrong time.

Just to be clear, I had no inkling or idea of the alleged criminal activities going on in Burning Sun, Seungri’s businesses before this saga broke out. I’m not involved in any way whatsoever. Any media outlets which persist in reporting so will be hearing from my legal counsel.

Seungri’s Side Responds To New Report On Suspicions Of Him Providing Prostitution Services For An Investor

Mar 23, 2019

In the latest on Seungri, SBS’s “8 O’Clock News” reported on text messages exchanged in a group chat with Seungri and Yoo In Suk that point to another alleged instance of the singer providing prostitution services, this time for a Japanese investor visiting Korea.

According to SBS, about a month before Christmas 2015, Seungri talked about holding a Christmas party and “preparing thoroughly” for the investor (referred to in the report as CEO “A”) and his accompanying guests, “giving back 100 times what we received.”

Yoo In Suk, the then-CEO of Yuri Holdings, responded that they should try to make their Japanese guests want to come back, saying, “Let’s just call all the girls we know. So that there are no girls left in the clubs.”

The day after CEO “A” and his entourage arrived, Yoo In Suk said in the chatroom, “I’ll send a gift,” and asks for the addresses of the people in the chat. Two prostitutes then arrive to meet two of the members in the chatroom, after which they exchange messages that the women were from those that remained after entertaining the CEO’s party.

On why Seungri and Yoo In Suk took so much care for the visit from CEO “A,” SBS’s “8 O’Clock News” pointed to the fact that about six months later, in June 2016, Seungri opened the first branch of his restaurant chain. Later, in October, Seungri applied for the rights to use his restaurant name, which were held by the company headed by CEO “A.”

Regarding the SBS report, Seungri’s legal representative said, “All suspicions having to do with CEO ‘A’ are false.”
