Following the news of Seungri announcing his retirement from the entertainment industry, YG Entertainment revealed that the decision was made by himself.
According to YTN, a source from YG revealed, “Seungri’s retirement announcement was not a decision made after consulting with YG, but a decision made on his own.” The source continued, “He was even more distressed because these incidents happened right before his enlistment.”
The source also said, “To be honest, no exact details have been revealed about Seungri during the past month and a half of police investigations. Seungri felt especially more guilty about causing harm to those around him.”
Following recent controversies, from being accused of providing sexual escort services to foreign investors to sharing illegally taken footage and photos in a chatroom with his colleagues, BIGBANG’s Seungri announced his retirement through an Instagram post on March 11.

Seungri of South Korean boy band BIGBANG should join the Army this month if he does not request a conscription delay, the state military recruitment agency said Monday.
As police have been accelerating their probe into the sex-for-favors allegations surrounding the 28-year-old singer-businessman, speculation has risen that he could seek to defer his enlistment slated for March 25.
“Unless he submits a written request for postponement, he has to join the Army,” an official at the Military Manpower Administration told reporters. “If he has a relevant reason for postponement, as stipulated in the conscription law, we can deliberate on that.”
The conscription law stipulates that a man subject to mandatory military service can delay conscription if he works as a sailor on an overseas ship, lives abroad or is under detention or serving a prison term due to a criminal conviction.
All able-bodied Korean men are obliged to serve in the Army for 21 months, the Navy for 23 months or the Air Force for 24 months.
National Police Agency Commissioner General Min Gap-ryong told reporters that his staff will continue to investigate Seungri even after his enlistment.
“Our police cannot stop the investigation even if he joins the military,” Min told reporters. “We will carry out the probe in consultation with the defense ministry.”
Investigators are looking into the suspicion that Seungri used various nightclubs in Seoul’s posh Gangnam district for lobbying and even attempted to introduce escorts to foreigners to encourage them to invest in his business ventures.
He denies the allegations.

The police have prohibited BIGBANG’s Seungri from leaving the country after booking him for allegedly providing sexual escort services for foreign investors.
On March 11, The Kyunghyang Shinmun reported that the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency banned Seungri from leaving the country after booking him, meaning that his status was changed from that of a target of investigation (the stage before someone becomes a suspect in Korean criminal law) to that of a suspect.
Because Seungri will be enlisting in the army on March 25, the police is planning to speed up the investigation.
All of this begins with SBS funE’s report on February 26, where they released text messages that were allegedly shared between Seungri, CEO Yoo of Yuri Holdings, and an employee in 2015. The contents of the messages implied that they were hiring prostitutes at Club Arena (a club located in the Gangnam district) for foreign business investors, and both YG and Yuri Holdings denied the claims in separate statements. One day later, Seungri underwent questioning at the police station and shared his willingness to cooperate with any further questioning.
On March 10, the police searched Club Arena, and later in the day, Seungri, along with three to four other people in the KakaoTalk group chat, were booked for aiding in providing sexual escort services.
