BIGBANG, Sunmi, Shaun compete for for Digital Bonsang at “GDA”

BIGBANG – the “Digital Giant”, Sunmi – the powerful soloist and Shaun, the “New Digital Monster” were all nominated for the Bonsang of the digital music category at the “33rd Golden Disc Award”.

BIGBANG has been a prominent group that has led the Korean mainstream music for the past 12 years. The group earned five awards including both the Daesang and Bonsang. Although the four members of Bigbang are performing military service, their digital music power has still been proven.

At the “22nd Golden Disk Awards”, Sunmi first stepped onto the stage when Wonder Girls was named for the Best Rookie Award. Currently, Sunmi is showing her power as a typical sexy soloist. Although she debuted 12 years ago, she is still in her mid-20s. This year, her unique musical style has been recognized around the world.

For Shaun, this is the first time he has become a nominee at the “Golden Disc Awards”. Shaun has shown a clear transformation of digital music streaming charts. Despite having no particular reason, his song still created a “storm” on SNS, making him become the “New Digital Monster” recognized by the music world.

Each nominee has their own story that captivated the fans. Who will become the owner of this Bonsang Award? After the jury makes the fairest judgment, the results will be announced at the “33rd Golden Disc Awards” held on January 5 at Gocheok Sky Stadium in Guro, Seoul. The award for the physical category will be published on January 6. (Order of candidates based on the Korean – English alphabet order of the Gaon Chart)

BIGBANG

Nominated song: Flower Road

Date of release: 13/3

Although “Flower Road” is only a fan song, Bigbang has shown their widespread popularity and once again proved the unique status of the group in the Korean music industry. Although Bigbang only released the digital version and they neither had any special promotional activities nor launched an MV, the song still occupied the No. 1 spot on charts after the ranking system was reformed. According to Melon chart, the song was in the Top 100 for 207 consecutive days and had 18 times reaching No. 1. The song was released during the time when 4 members of the group except for Seungri were performing their military service.

This was a surprise gift to the fans who were waiting for Bigbang to come back with the full line-up. “Flower Road” shows the distinctive personality of Bigbang when it is not a farewell song; on the other hand, it conveys the message “If you miss us, call us back”. The song’s lyrics were written by Top and G-Dragon. At the same time, Bigbang’s leader also participated in composing and arranging music. As a single recorded two years ago, the image of the single jacket image was the continuation of the full album “MADE” introduced in 2016. That the song used Bigbang’s signature sound 10 years after the song “Sunset Glow” was released in 2008 also makes the listeners feel more interested.
