[오마이뉴스=김윤정 기자] TAEYANG’s “WHITE NIGHT IN SEOUL” concert was held at the Jamsil Stadium on August 26-27. The concerts rounded off the Korean promotions for TAEYANG’s third solo album “WHITE NIGHT”, and at the same time, kicked off his solo world tour, during which he will be performing in 19 cities around the world.
The band played live music when TAEYANG appeared on the stage for the first time, and then he started off his concert by singing “RINGA LINGA”. Like the title “WHITE NIGHT”, TAEYANG had dyed his hair white and was in white clothes. He then performed “BODY”, “SUPER STAR”, and “WAKE ME UP” without a break.
The title of the album and the concert “WHITE NIGHT” means a night in which the sun has not gone down. It symbolizes TAEYANG’s passion for music even though 11 years have passed since his debut. It was his first solo concert in three years, and TAEYANG greeted his fans by saying, “It’s been such a long time. I’ve missed you so much.”
“I couldn’t sleep well because I was so eager to see you today. I’m sure you feel the same way. I get most excited and nervous when I’m doing a concert in Korea. I think this is because the times and the memories we’ve shared together lingers in my heart,” said TAEYANG to express his gratitude, and the audience cheered loudly.
Then he sang the tracks in his third album—“Amazin”, “Naked”, “EMPTY ROAD”, and “Ride”—along with passionate performances. TAEYANG commented, “I’ve been the happiest in making this album, and it’s the most meaningful album to me. I’m really satisfied with this album, and I hope you’ll feel the same way.”
WINNER’s MINO appeared at his concert as a surprise guest and sang “FEAR” with TAEYANG. MINO and TAEYANG did a joint stage and performed the song on Show Me The Money 3. TAEYANG went close up to the audience on the second floor while he was singing “I NEED A GIRL”, and he found WINNER’s YOON amidst the audience and passed him the mike so that he could sing a part too.
TAEYANG mentioned how he earned the nickname “dong grandpa” after appearing on MBC’s I Live Alone. He said, “Ten years ago, when we debuted, fans used to called me ‘exciting bae’. Now I have a new nickname. I really like my new nickname. I’m happy that my fans got to see a different side of me recently.”
TAEYANG then played the piano and sang BIGBANG’s “LAST DANCE”. After singing the song, TAEYANG said, “It’s hard singing a song that is usually sung by five people. But I did a good job, right?” He went on to say, “When I sing this song, it reminds me of BIGBANG members. Meeting them is the biggest joy and blessing of my life. We’ve been together and been able to sing on stage for more than ten years thanks to our fans. You guys protected us and loved us and were there for us. Thank you for keeping us together.”
He then expressed how he felt rounding off his third album promotions and said, “It was short and intense. Thanks to your support, I’m now going on a world tour. I’ll go out and experience the world and become a world-class singer.” He asked his fans, “I’ll still make it up to you while I’m abroad. I have a lot of ideas, so don’t be so disappointed.”
As the last song of his two-hour concert, TAEYANG sang the title track of his third album “DARLING”. Even after TAEYANG went down the stage, fans called for an encore while singing “SUPER STAR” together. He came back on the stage and performed seven songs to satisfy the audience.
TAEYANG’s third album promotions in Korea ended on August 28 with the Seoul concert. TAEYANG will tour around eight cities in North America: Toronto on August 30 and then, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, San Hose, LA, and Vancouver. Afterwards, TAEYANG will do concerts in Asia in cities like Manila, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Macao, Singapore, and Taipei.
