BIGBANG’s “MADE”, the heart of 2015’s Korean music scene

BIGBANG’s “MADE”, the heart of 2015’s Korean music scene [YG Attack in Fall]

[OSEN=??? ??] Could anyone talk about the Korean music scene in 2015 without mentioning this team? BIGBANG has enjoyed bigger-than-ever popularity this year, than any time since their debut. BIGBANG is achieving “long-run” at the top of music charts for four months by releasing total eight new songs from May until now, in a unique project titled “MADE SERIES”.

BIGBANG has released total eight songs from May until August, two songs for every month. From “LOSER” and “BAE BAE” that created sensation upon their release in May, to “BANG BANG BANG” and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” released in June, “IF YOU” and “SOBER” released in July, and “ZUTTER” and “LET’S NOT FALL IN LOVE” released in August, all the songs drew big popularity during the entire summer season, echoing everywhere people are gathered.

The wind of BIGBANG’s “MADE” that began to blow from mid-2015 was really like hurricane. In early June and July, girl groups were thought to sweep the music scene, but it was BIGBANG that actually dominated charts. Of course girl groups achieved some success, but it was BIGBANG’s new songs that showed bigger influence and power on charts.

“LOSER” and “BAE BAE” dominated music charts for entire May. Notably, these two songs were taken down the charts by Zion.T and IU twenty days after their release, but climbed up the charts soon again to top the charts including Korea’s biggest Melon. Plus, they earned ten crowns for a month in music shows of different TV channels, setting good record on charts and on TV as well.

“A”, the second album of “MADE SERIES” continued with the popularity of “M”. The popularity of “BANG BANG BANG” even went beyond Korea, to prove BIGBANG’s popularity in foreign countries. The song was selected as the “most-watched K-pop music video in June” by American Billboard, based on the number of views on YouTube. Such a record indicates that the music video of “BANG BANG BANG” earned the largest number of “views” around the world, including in the United States. Plus, “BANG BANG BANG” proved BIGBANG’s global popularity once again by taking the No.1 on “This year’s summer song” vote carried out by MTV IGGY on music fans around the world.

Album “D”’s popularity was nothing less. “IF YOU” that was praised by YG Entertainment’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK as his “personal favorite” was a ballad which fully expressed the sentiment of the lyrics by minimizing the use of instruments. The song drew big popularity as a song sung by all the five members, and soaked this summer’s music charts which had been taken by dynamic summer songs with “tears”. Upon the release of album “D”, both of “IF YOU” and “SOBER” swept all the No.1 and No.2 places on eight major music-streaming websites in Korea. In addition, “D” topped the iTunes single chart of 16 countries including Hong Kong, Macao, Malaysia, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. It also took the 4th place on the iTunes chart of the Unites States, the birthplace of pop music, and the 22nd place in the U.K., to set a successful record once again.

“E” was an album that not only set a good record on charts but also showed BIGBANG’s passion and energy for their world tour and TV entertainment. By the time of the album’s release, BIGBANG’s G-DRAGON and TAEYANG were in the last phase of preparing for the music festival of TV show “The Infinite Challenge”. BIGBANG’s world tour continued in August, too, so the members were carrying out hectic schedule of 70 concerts for the world tour in 15 countries including China, the U.S., and Canada. Because of such circumstance, the release of the last album of “MADE SEIRES” that had originally been scheduled of September was delayed, to make fans feel sad.

During the entire year of 2015, BIGBANG wrote new history in Korea’s music scene. Release of good songs loved by the public during such a long period of time is not something that anyone can do, which proves the real power and potential of this idol group who celebrates their 10th anniversary of debut this year. Music fans are showing high expectations for how BIGBANG who have excited the music scene of 2015 will complete “MADE SEIRES”.

The cross-border propaganda broadcasts from South Korea to the North have started again after a 11-year hiatus. They are generally deemed to be part of psychological warfare.

It became known on August 24 local time, that K-pop songs were being broadcast as part of the broadcast; namely IU‘s “Heart,” BIGBANG‘s “Bang Bang Bang,” Girls’ Generation‘s “Genie,” and veteran singer No Sa Yeon‘s “Meeting.”

The cross-border propaganda is broadcast about eight hours per day at 11 locations, but not all around the same time. News about South Korea’s progress and North Korea’s “true state” is also included in the broadcasts.
