TOP: It was my first time to do melo/romance, more so with two women. It was like a burden to me. I wasn’t confident if I could act the character at first. Since the original cartoon was loved by people so much, it took me a long time to decide. I knew it was kind of risky, but it’s not my style to care about netizens’ concerns.
TOP: I hate showing skin. It just makes me shy. My fans have said that it’s shocking that I showed skin (in the movie), and it was shocking for me too. (laughs) When I was filming shirtless, I was like screaming because I was so shy. It was so embarrassing. If the two actresses weren’t there for the naked scene, it might have looked like a sauna scene with 3 naked men.
Q: Did you work out for the movie?
TOP: I didn’t really try to make muscles (get muscular), but I tried to lose weight instead. In the original series, Daegil is pretty skinny. The director also didn’t want a muscular, super built body, so I didn’t do any shoulder or arms workout.
Acting alongside Shin Se Kyung
TOP: It was my first time meeting Shin Se Kyung after meeting her for a commercial shooting 4-5 years ago. She had a mature image compared to her age, so I was worried about things like, “What if she’s too sensitive? What if I make a mistake?” But when I actually met her, she was very honest, cool, and caring for other people. It was my first time meeting an actress that is so considerate of others. I only have good memories about Shin Se Kyung.
Q: Do you like girls like Shin Se Kyung?
TOP: She is too good for me. (laughs)
Working with Lee Honey
TOP: I’ve known Lee Honey nuna since a long time ago, but I have never talked to her. We just said hi when we ran into each other. While filming, I talked a lot to Lee Honey nuna. It felt like she was my real sister. Her personality was really cool and straightforward. It was my first time meeting an actress as cool as her. She doesn’t hide anything. She makes the other person feel comfortable, so it was great acting with her.
On acting
TOP: I want to keep acting as long as I can do well and as long as there are people who want me to. I don’t think the job (acting) is for a big success. I just act as a substitute for the character.
On promoting as BIGBANG and as an actor at the same time
TOP: The bad thing about it is that there’s a lot of times spent in confusion. Even though I’ve been doing music since I was young, when I come back to being a singer after acting, it takes about 1-2 months to step on the pedal and pedal to the top. It’s the same as acting. Every time feels like it’s my first time.
