MC = Radio host, DS = Daesung
MC: BIGBANG’s vocal and maybe you can say, “funny guy” role, D-LITE san!
DS: Nice to meet you, I’m D-LITE!
MC: There are many fans who wanted to see you and rushed to the studio today…
DS: (laughs) Yes I see~
MC: So many people today!
DS: (laughs) Yes, thank you~
MC: Firstly, congratulations on finishing your tour. (*Note 1)
DS: Thank you!
MC: Please tell me more about your tour later.
DS: Yes!
MC: D-LITE san has the image as the vocal of BIGBANG, of course, but also I imagine D-LITE to have a comical side and have funny stories and reactions, but do you regularly watch Japanese variety TV shows?
DS: Ahh… But usually I have a dark personality.
MC: Really!?
DS: mm.. I listen to music by myself in my room…
MC: So your regular life style and your work style is…
DS: Completely opposite, yeah~
MC: Oh~ really? Is that easier for you?
DS: Yes, I feel comfortable being alone.
MC: I heard you’re friends with some Japanese comedians too?
DS: Ah~ yes, with Saito-san from Jungle Pocket (That’s the comedian duo’s stage name)
MC: Oh! You’re good friends with Saito-san from Jungle Pocket?
DS: (laughs) Yeah! We’ve been on the same TV show together a many times and he even comes to my concerts.
MC: Really~! D-LITE san has connections with such comedians like Jungle Pocket’s Saito-san.. Next we will introduce such D-LITE san’s profile.
DS: Ok!
MC: D-LITE san has a strong falsetto voice and has a characteristically soulful voice with a wide range as the vocal in BIGBANG. Starting in 2008, he started appearing on variety TV shows as a regular staff and even preformed in musicals. In 2008 he started his solo career and released his cover album D’scover last year in February, and released his first original album, D’slove on the 16th of this month. Congratulations!
DS: Thank you!
loud clapping
MC: cause there’s a large gallery (crowd) today haha
DS: (laughs) True
MC: On July 16, you released your first original album, D’slove. Compared to your previous first album which was entirely composed of J-POP cover songs, this album is composed entirely of love songs, right?
DS: mm.. Yes. The keyword is love - ai (“love” in Japanese) - right? I wanted to express to many sides to love that I had experienced until now.
MC: Various sides to love?
DS: Yes~
MC: Oh I see~ As the “funny guy” character, was there a gap you felt between your image and the you singing these love songs so seriously?
DS: Gap? No, there’s no gap~ For me, variety shows, singing, I think I can do all of those things because I have love in my heart.
MC: Oh, I see. So even with variety shows…
DS: ..there’s love. Owaraiiii. Owar-aaaiiiii. Aaaiiii (laughs at his own dorky joke) I’m sorry. (*Note 2)
MC: (laughs) I see! It’s ok, you even include these Japanese jokes (in your interviews) - thank you! You’re the one that chose to sing all love songs, right?
DS: Yes~ mm.. In this album I wanted to sing songs about “love.”
MC: Why did you want to sing songs about “love”?
DS: mm yea because I really think the feeling of love is so strong and I think it’s the emotion that has the most number of “sides” to it.
MC: Ah~ because it’s that much of a complicated (emotion).
DS: mmm yes. Of course there’s a lot of happy sides, and really sad sides… there’s a wide range (of feelings associated with “love”)
MC: So if you listen to this album, you can experience the love that D-LITE san has felt up until now..?
DS: Yes!
MC: Ah~ it’s a must listen. And song number 10 - I LOVE YOU - this was a cover collaboration with violinist, Hakase Taro-san, right?
DS: mm, yes, that’s true~
MC: How was the collaboration with Hakase Taro-san?
DS: Of course, I was so happy! Hakase Taro-san’s personality is so nice and so outgoing and… (laughing) he’s here right? (laughs) by the way (laughs)
MC: (laughs) Ahh! You mean our AD (associate director?) Mutto (his name?) right? Haha Yeah his hairstyle is a bit reminiscent of Hakase-san’s hair, huh?
DS: (to said AD) It’s been a while~! (laughs)
MC: (laughs)
DS: mmm yes I was truly happy.
MC: Wow I see~ Did you two talk a lot about music?
DS: mmm yes but since we didn’t have a lot of time, we couldn’t talk a lot but we communicated through his performance and my voice.
MC: Wow so cool. I heard you worked on producing the entire album, but was it difficult?
DS: Ah yeah but I didn’t mean to produce the entire album from the beginning – it just sort of ended up that way.
MC: Oh really!? You didn’t set out on producing the entire album? It just happened?
DS: Yes, I had an image for each of the songs and talked about it while making the album, so people said I produced it… but I’m embarrassed to be called a ‘producer.’
MC: (laughs) You’re embarrassed? Really?
DS: (laughs) Yes
MC: There’s also a DVD right?
DS: mm, yes
MC: There are many clips of you enjoying your time off in Sapporo, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, but when did you film it?
DS: In March..? Yes in March of this year.
MC: You went dog sledding..?
DS: Yesss dog sledding~
MC: …and you went culring..?
DS: Yess curlinggg
MC: …and as a reward for the curling, you were eating a spectacular crab~
DS: Yesss I ate all of it (laughs)
MC: You ate all of it!?
DS: Of course!!
MC: Wowww! Was it good?
DS: Yes of course it was good~
MC: And you went fishing?
DS: Yes.. fishing… was a little too hard.
MC: Do you go fishing often?
DS: Noo~ not at all, I can’t touch them. I can’t touch fish.
MC: Oh you can’t touch it! Oh you dislike fish?
DS: Yes, super dislike (laughs)
MC: But you like to eat it..?
DS: Yes! I want to eat all of it!!
MC: What kind of food do you like?
DS: I like a lot of foods but meat! Seafood! Vegetables! Fruits!
MC: That’s the best balance!
DS: Yes~
MC: (laughs) Ok, so let’s listen to one song from this album, D’slove. Which song should we play?
DS: I sang this song at my concerts too but it had a really great reaction and has an up-tune beat. “Nalba Gwisoon” – please listen.
Look At Me Gwisoon plays
MC: We just played “Nalba Gwisoon” from D-LITE san’s album, D’slove. This is Ikebe Ai on FM79.5 Monaka with BIGBANG’s vocal D-LITE as a guest. Thank you for continuing to be here with us.
DS: Thank you. (*Note 3)
MC: With your first original solo album, you went on a national tour covering all 8 major cities, with 15 performances for your solo arena tour… but is it really different to tour together as BIGBANG and to tour as a solo artist?
DS: It’s entirely different – the music and the atmospheres are entirely different.
MC: How is the atmosphere different?
DS: BIGBANG has a strong image of creating a ‘show’ and making a great performance but with my concert, we all sing together and make the atmosphere together. mm
MC: Ahh… since the stage and the numbers in the audience are entirely different, do you also spend time differently backstage and do you have any different feelings up until the live performance?
DS: Before the real performance, mmm yeah I’m alone backstage and… I used to be lonely in the beginning but now.. it’s actually more comfortable. hahahaha
MC: You don’t have to consider the other members (laughs)
DS: But yes… really.. hmm… I miss them! hahahaha
MC: (laughs) Everyone becomes lonely when they’re alone, right? haha During your tour, what do you do when you have free time?
DS: Honestly, I don’t do anything but I go to the gym in the hotel and go eat something delicious.
MC: Ahhh so you also work out and keep your figure even during your free time, yes?
DS: Yes~
MC: We received a gift from D-LITE san for you, our Monaka-listeners! (claps) Can D-LITE san explain the gifts?
DS: Yes! It’s my merchandise – the bag, T-shirt, and towel.
MC: All of these items will be given as a set to 1 person?
DS: Yes! To 1 person!
MC: Thank you so much!! This is the super popular one right!?
DS: Uhh.. I don’t think it’s really that popular. (Dae & MC laughs) Really. Yes it’s popular (laughs) Thank you.
MC: Really, the bag is big and the fabric is so soft and squishy and feels nice.. and the design is super cute! It stands out even from afar!
DS: That’s true… it.. stands… out… I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not though (laughs)
MC: Nah, it’s great~! We have taken a photo of the merchandise and posted it on the blog, so please check it out! For those who wish to apply, please apply from the Monaka website’s form and apply with your address, name, and phone number. Next, here is news from D-LITE san!

[TRANSLATION NOTES]
(*Note 1) Otsukaresama deshita = it’s a saying to mean “good job” or “you worked hard” that’s difficult to directly translate into English
(*Note 2) “Owarai” = “Variety TV” in Japanese and “ai” = “love” in Japanese.
(*Note 3) They say “Yoroshiku onegai shimasu” which is roughly translated into “Nice to work with you” and is a commonly said phrase before beginning working with another person.
