bigbang

It was announced today (November 18) that BIGBANG will be receiving a Special Award at this year’s 58th Japan Record Awards. The Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the music industry, and awardees are selected by the Japan Composer’s Association, which sponsors the event. The ceremony will be broadcast live in Japan on December 30.

This is the third time that BIGBANG has been presented with a Japan Record Award. The first time was in 2009, when they received the Best New Artist Award, and the second time was in 2010, when they won an Album Excellence Award.

Following in their seniors’ footsteps, iKON also picked up this year’s Best New Artist Award. YG Entertainment said that the awards are even more meaningful, as these two groups were the only Korean artists on the list.

The Japan Record Award rides on the tails of BIGBANG’s trophy rush earlier this month, where their 10th Anniversary Concert+Movie DVD and Blu-ray took first place on the Oricon Weekly Chart and other ranking charts.

BIGBANG is currently on their Japan Dome Tour, but the group is expected to drop a comeback by the end of the year. Incidentally, this is their fourth Dome Tour, making them the first ever foreign artists to hold four Dome Tours in a row.
