Prosecution Requests 5-Year Prison Sentence For Seungri

Jul 1, 2021

On July 1, the 25th hearing was held at the military court for Seungri, who has been indicted for nine charges.

The nine charges are violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes, violation of the Food Sanitation Act, embezzlement, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, prostitution mediation, purchase of prostitution services, and special violence instigation. Seungri denied all charges except for violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act.

At the hearing on July 1, the military prosecution requested a sentence of five years in prison along with a 20 million won (approximately $17,650) fine for Seungri.

The military prosecution explained, “The defendant committed crimes continuously over several years. He used Korean women to mediate prostitution to foreign investors for his personal financial gain, and he also maintained relationships with them through gambling. Although the defendant gained the largest profit from these crimes, he is not reflecting for the major crimes and laying responsibility on others while saying that he is not involved.”

The final sentence will be determined at the sentencing trial on a future date that will be determined by the court.

Seungri Continues To Deny Involvement In Prostitution Mediation, Illegal Hidden Camera Footage, And More

Seungri Continues To Deny Involvement In Prostitution Mediation, Illegal Hidden Camera Footage, And More

Jun 30, 2021

On the morning of June 30, Seungri attended the latest hearing for his “Burning Sun” trial at the general military court in Yongin.

In September 2020, Seungri was indicted on eight charges: purchase of prostitution services, prostitution mediation, embezzlement, violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes, violation of the Food Sanitation Act, habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, and violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes. In January 2021, the military prosecution also indicted Seungri and Yoo In Suk on an additional charge of special violence instigation.

During the session on June 30, Seungri strongly denied a number of charges, including prostitution services, prostitution mediation, filming illegal hidden camera footage, embezzlement, and habitual gambling.

Regarding the allegation that he served as co-chairman of Yuri Holdings with Yoo In Suk, Seungri stated, “I didn’t prepare Yuri Holdings with Yoo In Suk from the beginning. I was preparing Mildang Pocha with my friends to cut down on the cost of entertainment, but I didn’t know much about finance, accounting, and documents, so I consulted Yoo In Suk about it and came to be part of Yuri Holdings. Yuri Holdings was already a business that Yoo In Suk and other executives were preparing, and I just went along with it.”

About the prostitution mediation charge, he said, “I didn’t know anything, and I found out during the investigation.” Concerning the fact that he wrote “[Get a] woman who gives well” in the group chat when a Taiwanese businesswoman visited Korea, he explained, “I remember I said ‘people who know how to have fun.’ I think it was a typo due to the autocorrection on my iPhone. I’m really sorry, but that’s what I believe.”

Seungri especially stressed that he was not involved in the process of calling prostitutes. He referred to the fact that the investigation process revealed that the women who actually attended the scene were not prostitutes and that they were not his acquaintances but someone else’s from the chatroom.

Regarding the 2015 party where he was suspected of providing prostitutes to Japanese businessmen, he shared, “In order to repay people all over the world for celebrating my birthday at the end of the year, I invited Koji Aoyama, his wife, and other foreign friends for a big Christmas party. I only paid attention to taking care of my acquaintances, and I only found out about the women during the investigation.”

In particular, Seungri explained his old friendship with those who were mentioned as people who received sexual favors for business reasons and stressed that “there is no reason for them to receive sexual favors.”

Seungri shared that Yoo In Suk never told him about sending prostitutes and added, “I think Yoo In Suk’s actions are extremely personal. I don’t know how that’s related to my business. Even though I was investigated on charges of providing sexual favors, there was nothing that linked my direct involvement in it, so I wonder if the investigators made it up.” He said that he had no idea about the prostitutes coming and going and emphasized, “Just because messages were shared in the group chat doesn’t mean that I’m aware of everything.”

He also defended himself against the prosecution’s questions regarding the alleged prostitution charges and explained why he denied them. Regarding the fact that he revealed that he heard Yoo In Suk say he’ll send a woman, he said, “I was interrogated too much at the time that I said I heard it, but I actually don’t remember it. I don’t remember the [fact of prostitution] at all, but I had to admit it was true because the woman’s statement said it was.”

Seungri continued, “But when I read the statement after I was indicted, it was too unreliable. I was young and popular at the time, so I wasn’t in a position to pay money to maintain relationships with people.”

He also addressed the allegation that he was involved in filming illegal hidden camera footage. He said, “I just posted a photo from a spam text message that I received from an entertainment bar employee in China without much thought. I’ve never sent a picture like that before, and I’ve never taken one either.”

Seungri then mentioned being booked with embezzlement due to the issue with Monkey Museum, saying, “Since it is legal advice for Monkey Museum, I thought it was right for the owner, Yuri Holdings, to pay the consultation fee. It was a decision for the company, not for the CEO or DJ, out of concern that the damage would be severe if it became known that something scandalous happened at Seungri’s club.”

Concerning the group chatroom with Jung Joon Young, he said, “The messages in that chatroom are not everything in my life. There were more than ten chatrooms that I participated in, and I used about five other social media apps besides Kakaotalk. There are 500 messages that accumulate in just an hour. Just because I get messages doesn’t mean I saw and knew about them all.”

Then he added, “Since the chatroom was only between friends, there was an exchange of inappropriate words and actions. I didn’t know they would be revealed, so I apologize to the public.”

Seungri’s parents also attended the trial and watched his interrogation process from the audience. The afternoon trial will include the military prosecutor’s, lawyer’s, and judge’s interrogations on his charges related to violating special laws and special violence instigation.

[Article] 9 Deep Male Solo Releases To Make You Reflect

9 Deep Male Solo Releases To Make You Reflect

9 Deep Male Solo Releases To Make You Reflect

Jun 13, 2021

Music has so much depth. Some male soloists have proved that by blessing us time and time again with the most profound releases: whether it be albums, EPs, or mixtapes. No matter the format, the quality is outstanding every single time, and the lyrics send us on an insightful self-reflective trip.

It is impossible to feature every track that fits the description, but here is a short selection of deep male solo releases that will make you reflect.

1. Epik High’s Tablo – “Lullaby for a Cat”

Ever had one of those solitary nights where you just ponder upon many things that have affected your life in one way or another? Tablo has had one of those, and he beautifully describes it via his lyrics in detail. Bonus: cats are incredibly fond of this lullaby!

2. Zico – “Extreme”

When Zico starts spitting rhymes, he doesn’t hold back. The artist delivers a full statement where he proudly acknowledges the many sides that represent him and calls out people who always attack his persona without knowing what’s behind the scenes. This is a reminder to always accept oneself and never surrender to others’ negativity and destructive criticism.

3. GOT7’s Jackson Wang – “Bullet To The Heart”

Jackson can be quite the romantic, but he can also portray heartbreak like no other. The song depicts the roots of a toxic relationship that were hiding behind the veil of love. Having missed all the red flags, the singer uses his lines to set an example for others in order to avoid falling in the same trap. If you’re in a similar relationship, consider this your wakeup call!

4. BIGBANG’s G-Dragon – “Untitled, 2014”

Sometimes, people fall out with their loved ones and regret it greatly afterwards. G-Dragon portrays those exact feelings through his song which send goosebumps down every listener’s spine due to its depth and heartfelt lyrics. This also serves as a heart-wrenching but necessary reminder to take care of the people surrounding us and be good to them.

5. MONSTA X’s Joohoney – “Smoky”

Changing from his usual badass signature, Joohoney gets raw, real, and personal. The artist fervently calls for help from within the smoky atmosphere that’s keeping him prisoner. Talking about feeling lost and struggling to smile, he touches on a common yet discarded mental health issue that many might relate to as they listen to the lyrics.

6. Bang Yongguk – “Coming Home”

This hype beat by Yongguk is here to give you the pep talk you might have been looking for. The rapper underlines the prison that some people build around someone under the illusion of freedom, and recommends that you create your own path and seek your freedom from within – breaking free from others’ bad influence. In short, Yongguk is asking you to come home to yourself.

7. BTS’s RM – “Moonchild”

It is no secret that RM has his way with words. In “Moonchild,” the rapper sheds light on the sorrows that befall one’s life and how they shouldn’t succumb to it. Instead, he urges people to reach out to the light they have within and shine in order to conquer the darkness, just like the moon does every night.

8. NCT’s Ten – “New Heroes”

The best motivation story comes from seemingly endless struggle that births a fruitful outcome, and Ten is telling that exact tale. Standing up for his dream and facing his fears are the idol’s recipe for success that have helped him thrive in his career. You too can be your own hero in any field you wish as long as you don’t take no for an answer.

9. SHINee’s Taemin – “Advice”

Taemin’s latest title track is a commandment for everyone to acknowledge, admire, and abide by. The singer fights stigma that people use against him and liberates himself from all the shackles they relentlessly try to put on him. Liberated and confident, he is nonchalant to others’ petty talk behind his back as he shuts them down with this brilliant piece. One thing is for certain, Taemin’s advice is to take and uphold!
