Police Investigate Seungri’s Birthday Party In Palawan For Alleged Prostitution Mediation

Apr 7, 2019

The police has begun investigating another set of allegations of prostitution mediation against Seungri.

On April 7, Channel A reported that the police had confirmed that eight women who attended Seungri’s 2017 birthday party, which was held in the Philippines, were professional escorts. According to the report, after questioning these women, the police were able to secure testimony that Seungri had been involved in prostitution mediation.

That same day, a source from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency investigation unit confirmed, “We held an investigation and questioned a number of women who had attended [Seungri’s] party in Palawan regarding the allegations of prostitution mediation.

The source also stated, “We obtained the list of the Palawan party attendees.” However, the police representative declined to provide further details, explaining, “Since the police investigation is still ongoing, it is difficult for us to confirm the exact number of people and the details of the investigation.”

The police previously launched investigations due to a 2015 text message conversation between Seungri and former Yuri Holdings CEO Yoo In Suk that appeared to indicate that Seungri had provided prostitution services to foreign investors. There were also speculations that there may have been prostitution at Seungri’s birthday party in December 2017, when the singer rented out a resort in Palawan.

The police have confirmed that Seungri paid for all of the travel expenses for the escorts who attended his party, and the police are investigating whether the travel expenses were a form of compensation for prostitution. The former singer is currently suspected of using prostitution mediation to obtain new investments from foreign investors or to retain current investments. The police have also obtained testimony that prostitution took place at another location beside Palawan.

However, Seungri has denied these allegations, stating, “There is no truth [to the claim] that I’ve mediated prostitution.” The total cost of his 2017 birthday party is estimated to be about 600 million won (approximately $527,385), and Seungri claimed that he paid all of the attendees’ travel expenses and not just those of the women suspected to be involved in prostitution mediation.

The police are also currently investigating an instance of corporate funds from Monkey Museum, a club co-operated by Seungri and former Yuri Holdings CEO Yoo In Suk, being used for personal attorney fees. However, the police have stated that it is difficult to reveal the details of the investigation, as it is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Seungri and Yoo In Suk were recently booked on the charge of embezzling tens of millions of won (approximately tens of thousands of dollars) from their club Monkey Museum. Seungri has also fallen under suspicion of founding a shell corporation in Hong Kong, with SBS’s “8 O’Clock News” reporting that they were unable to locate a physical office for his company BC Holdings.

Seungri Accused Of Founding A Shell Corporation In Hong Kong

Seungri Accused Of Founding A Shell Corporation In Hong Kong

Apr 7, 2019

Seungri has fallen under suspicion of establishing a shell corporation in Hong Kong.

On April 7, SBS’s “8 O’Clock News” reported that BC Holdings, Seungri’s company in Hong Kong, may be a shell corporation: a company that exists only on paper, with no building or employees. Shell companies do not have active business operations.

Seungri founded BC Holdings in 2016 together with Yoo In Suk, the then-CEO of Yuri Holdings. Seungri, Yoo In Suk, and the head of a Korean consulting firm named Ryu each invested 15,000 won (approximately $13) in the company.

SBS’s reporters traveled to the Hong Kong address listed in BC Holdings’ corporate registration in order to visit the company, but were unable to locate it. Instead of BC Holdings, the address belonged to a Korean tax law firm that had assisted in the establishment of the company. When questioned about BC Holdings, an employee of the firm stated, “This is not a matter that we can confirm. We cannot say even one letter in a client’s name without permission.”

SBS then tried visiting a past address of BC Holdings, but local office workers could only say that they did not know anything about the company. One worker commented, “I never went inside the office, but it didn’t seem like there were that many employees.”

Concluding that there appears to be no BC Holdings office in Hong Kong, SBS’s “8 O’Clock News” speculated that the company is a shell corporation.

In 2017, BC Holdings advertised on their website that they were operating with 30 billion won (approximately $26.4 million). However, when questioned about the truth of this statement, Ryu replied that while 30 billion won had been their goal, they had actually received only 10 billion won (approximately $8.8 million) in investments.

As Seungri undergoes investigations by both the Korean police and Korean tax authorities, Hong Kong tax authorities have announced that they will also be opening investigations into BC Holdings. A representative stated, “The scale of this matter appears to be very large. In the case that tax evasion has occurred, there may be criminal punishment decided in a court of law, or there may be a penalty fee of three times the evaded tax.”

SBS also reported that the major shareholders of BC Holdings recently passed on their shares all at once. Shortly after Seungri retired from the entertainment industry on March 11, he resigned from his position at BC Holdings. On March 15, he and a fellow Korean shareholder passed all of their shares to an unnamed Japanese individual, while a high-ranking Vietnamese executive at BC Holdings suddenly stepped down from his position.

A private equity expert commented that it was unusual that BC Holdings was operating on investments of 10 billion won (approximately $8.8 million) when the initial investment to establish the company was only around 40,000 won (approximately $35).

Additionally, SBS revealed that BC Holdings’ Korean office, as well as the consulting firm headed by BC Holdings co-founder Ryu, were all located in the same space as Yuri Holdings’ office.

Ryu commented, “Seungri’s company BC Holdings is merely a client for which my company provides operational advice. Although it is out of the ordinary to establish a company in Hong Kong together with a client, I was simply providing help to Seungri and Yoo In Suk, as they were unfamiliar with this line of work.”

The police are currently looking further into the matter and investigating whether it is related to offshore tax evasion.

Seungri Reportedly Involved In Managing Burning Sun + Yuri Holdings Initially Owned More Shares In Club

Seungri Reportedly Involved In Managing Burning Sun + Yuri Holdings Initially Owned More Shares In Club

Apr 7, 2019

On April 7, news outlet Yonhap News reported about newly found evidence of Seungri taking part in Burning Sun’s management despite having claimed to only have partaken in promoting the club. Furthermore, the initial list of Burning Sun’s shareholders indicates that Yuri Holdings held more shares initially.

Two months prior, Seungri posted a statement on his Instagram account claiming that he was not involved in operating and managing Burning Sun and was simply in charge of publicly promoting the club.

The initial list of shareholders that Yonhap News obtained from a source from Burning Sun was created around November of 2017 when Burning Sun was registered as a club.

According to the document, Burning Sun was capitalized at 50 million won (approximately $44,000), and Yuri Holdings, which was established by Seungri and Yoo In Suk, had 4,000 shares in acquisition stock, which is 40 percent of the total. The form indicates the exact ownership ratio, along with the shareholders’ seals. According to the Burning Sun source, the deal was signed at Le Méridien Hotel (managed by Cheonwon Industry Co., Ltd.) with senior executives from Yuri Holdings in attendance.

However, the current shares held by Yuri Holdings, as revealed by the police, is 20 percent. The source revealed that Seungri gave half of Yuri Holding’s entire shares to his close acquaintance Madam Lin, a Taiwanese businesswoman.

A source from Yuri Holdings stated, “According to one of the shareholders, Cheonwon Industry Co., Ltd., Madam Lin’s investment forms were not prepared in time because she was a foreigner, so the contract was established while agreeing to hand over 20 percent of the shares later.” They claimed, “At the time of signing, Seungri did not know how the shares were split.”

Yonhap News also obtained Kakao Talk messages in which Seungri delegates work to the Burning Sun staff. Seungri proposed agendas ranging from checking IDs to strengthening the staff’s sex education and stated, “Carry these out starting in early April,” using a commanding tone. This evidence goes against Seungri’s claim that he was only acting as a promoter for the club.

Shin Ki Hyun Explains Group Photo With Members Of Controversial Chatroom And Why He’s Still Following Seungri On Instagram

Apr 5, 2019

Shin Ki Hyun responded to some questions surrounding his friendship with Seungri.

On April 4, the actor held an Instagram live broadcast where he denied rumors of his involvement in a chatroom where illegally filmed footage of women was shared amongst celebrities.

SBS’s “8 O’Clock News” previously reported that, similarly to Jung Joon Young’s chatroom, there was another KakaoTalk chatroom in which illegally-filmed videos of women were shared. Members of the chat included a film actor, a model, the son of family-owned conglomerate, and an MD (merchandiser also known as promoter) of Club Arena. The news program named movie stars named “Shin,” “Han,” and a model named “Jung.”

After the report, people suspected Shin Ki Hyun to be the movie actor named “Shin” after netizens found a group photo of him with Seungri, Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, and Roy Kim at a coal briquette volunteer event.

During the broadcast, he said, “I went because I thought it would be nice to do coal briquette volunteering. I didn’t even want to take a photo with them. They’re all popular celebrities. I felt as if I was a nobody. But Seungri asked to take the photo together, so I did. It was my first time seeing Jung Joon Young and Roy Kim. I only said hello to Choi Jong Hoon a couple of times while promoting as Battle.”

About still following Seungri on Instagram, Shin Ki Hyun explained, “People ask why I’m not unfollowing him, but can all of you cut off a close friend when he commits a crime? He’s one of my friends who guided me. I don’t think there’s an answer. It’s right for him to receive punishment if he committed a crime.”

Seungri Receives Police Questioning For Suspicions Of Destroying Evidence

Seungri Receives Police Questioning For Suspicions Of Destroying Evidence

Apr 5, 2019

Seungri has been questioned by the police for an additional suspicion.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s provincial special detective division summoned Seungri for questioning on the morning of April 4.

The police stated that after messages from a group chat were revealed on February 26, Seungri told the members of the chatroom to get new phones.

Destruction of evidence was first suspected last month when the police collected the cell phones of the chatroom members and most of them, including Seungri, Choi Jong Hoon, and Jung Joon Young, submitted new phones. There was only one chatroom member who did not submit a new phone.

When Choi Jong Hoon was asked why he suddenly changed his phone, he responded, “Seungri told me to change my cell phone.” Jung Joon Young and other individuals also shared the same reason.

From what was gathered by the police from the questioning of the chatroom members, Seungri contacted them and said, “I don’t remember at all what I said in 2015. Do you still have old cell phones or records?” When they all responded that they do not have the KakaoTalk records as they are from over three years ago, Seungri commented, “A mandatory investigation could happen, so change the cell phone you are currently using.”

According to legal expert Joo Young Geul, it may be difficult for Seungri to receive punishment for the destruction of evidence if it is found that the chatroom members got rid of their phones to protect themselves rather than to cover up Seungri’s charges.

If booked however, Seungri will have been booked for a total of five charges including prostitution mediation, violation of food sanitation law, spreading illegal footage, and embezzlement.

15 K-Pop Songs Written Based On Singers’ Real-Life Experiences

15 K-Pop Songs Written Based On Singers’ Real-Life Experiences

15 K-Pop Songs Written Based On Singers’ Real-Life Experiences

Apr 4, 2019

There are many things that give musicians inspiration to compose tracks, one being their personal experiences in life. When a track is composed based on a person’s own stories, it is made with a pure, genuine heart, and this has resulted in some of the best hit-tracks of all time.

With that being said, here are 15 songs that were written based on the singer’s real-life experiences.

1. BIGBANG – “This Love”

This song is G-Dragon’s remake of Maroon 5’s “This Love.” Just as the original lyrics are based on the true story of Adam Levine’s breakup with an ex-girlfriend, G-Dragon also narrates his personal experience in the lyrics of the remake. It is reported that the BIGBANG member wrote the lyrics to this song in 30 minutes after being dumped by a girl he liked back when he was still a trainee.

2. IU – “Voicemail”

During her appearance in MBC Music’s “Picnic Live” in 2013, IU revealed that “Voicemail” is actually based on her own experience with love. She stated that she composed this song after being rejected by a boy she liked.

Fun fact about the song — there’s a part in the lyrics that says, “The recording time has already hit two minutes and thirty seconds.” Right when that lyric comes up, the actual time into the song is two minutes and thirty seconds!

3. Heize – “Don’t Know You”

Heize revealed that “Don’t Know You” is about a boyfriend she met when she had just moved to Seoul and was having financial difficulties. Heize said that while they were dating, she received many gifts from him, of which she still has a lot left at home. The rapper/singer also stated that it saddens her to think that the ex-boyfriend doesn’t have anything to remember her by since she was unable to give him gifts at the time.

4. BIGBANG’s Taeyang – “Eyes, Nose, Lips”

At this point, everyone knows who the muse is behind this emotional love song. In a past variety show, Taeyang revealed that the lyrics of “Eyes, Nose, Lips” were inspired by his now-wife, actress Min Hyo Rin. He never revealed at which point in their relationship he was inspired to write this, but now they are total couple goals!

5. Baek Ah Yeon – “Shouldn’t Have”

This is Baek Ah Yeon’s first self-composed song, which the singer later revealed was inspired by a real-life experience. In a variety show, Baek Ah Yeon stated that just when she was looking for things to write about, something exactly like the lyrics occurred to her. It was sad, but she started writing down her story and turned it into this masterpiece.

The singer also revealed that she received a phone call from the person that is the subject of the track. Without knowing the song was about him, the person apparently told Baek Ah Yeon that he enjoyed the song.

6. Akdong Musician – “Last Goodbye”

Akdong Musician’s Lee Chan Hyuk shared his own breakup story in this song. During the duo’s appearance on “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook,” Lee Chan Hyuk shared that he is the most attached to “Last Goodbye” and that he cried while writing it. Her sister Lee Soo Hyun added that she witnessed her brother crying while recording the song.

7. Dynamic Duo – “Guilty”

Dynamic Duo’s Gaeko revealed that “Guilty” is based on an actual fight he had with his wife when they were dating. According to the rapper/producer, while he was fighting with his wife, who was his girlfriend at the time, he blurted out the words “I’m the one to blame.” In that instant, he thought these words would make a great theme for a song, so he forgot about the fight and wrote the words down.

8. Park Won – “All Of My Life”

During his appearance in MBC’s “Radio Star,” Park Won shared that he tends to write songs based on his actual life experiences. When asked if there is a song in which he wishes to change the lyrics, the singer picked “All Of My Life.”

He said that he would like to change the last line of the song, which says, “Yes, this is a story about you.” He was afraid that the last line would hurt his ex-girlfriend, whom the track is about, all over again. Park Won also added that every one of his ex-girlfriends except for the one behind the song contacted him afterwards, asking if the song was about them.

9. Lee Juck – “It’s Fortunate”

Lee Juck dedicated this song to his girlfriend, who is now his wife, when she was studying abroad. Lee Juck had no intention of releasing the song; he had only wanted to express his affection and longing for his girlfriend. However, people around him encouraged him to release it, and it is now known as one of his best hit-tracks of all time!

10. Zion.T – “Yanghwa BRDG”

Zion.T wrote this beautifully-worded track while thinking about his family, especially his father. The singer previously shared that he wrote the lyrics to this song in thirty minutes while he was on his way back from a long trip he had taken by himself.

11. Busker Busker – “Cherry Blossom Ending”

Despite the heart-fluttering lyrics, Jang Beom Joon revealed that he wrote this song after he had just gone through a breakup.

According to the singer, he was inspired to write this song while at a cherry blossom festival with three of his male busking friends. At the time, he noticed that everyone except for his group was at the festival with their significant others. Him being heartbroken with a recent breakup, he wanted the cherry blossoms to “end,” thus the title “Cherry Blossom Ending.” Now he has a beautiful wife and two kids to enjoy cherry blossoms with!

12. 4MEN – “Hello, It’s Me”

Yoon Min Soo revealed that “Hello, It’s Me” is about a time he had temporarily broken up with his girlfriend, who later became his wife. The lyrics say, “While walking, I find myself in front of Exit 4 of Sincheon Station,” which is where his wife actually resided in the past.

13. Leessang – “Can’t Breakup Girl, Can’t Breakaway Boy”

The song tells an actual story of Leessang’s Gary and an ex-girlfriend of his, whom the rapper dated on and off for about six years. Gary also revealed that most of the duo’s tracks are written based on his real-life experiences. Examples include “You’re The Answer To A Guy Like Me” and “Ballerino.”

14. Kim Kwang Jin – “Letter”

When Kim Kwang Jin was not yet a well-known singer, he was dating a girl whose parents were extremely against their relationship because they thought the singer did not have a promising future. Thus, the girl ended up meeting another guy through her parents.

However, the girl eventually went back to Kim Kwang Jin. After they reunited, the man she briefly dated wrote her a heartfelt letter, which the singer later turned into his hit-track “Letter.”

15. Lee Hi – “Breathe”

This beautifully-composed track was gifted to Lee Hi by the late SHINee member Jonghyun. Lee Hi later revealed that around the time “Breathe” was released, she was having problems with breathing. She released the song hoping that it would help and comfort those who also have difficulty breathing.

Do you know any other songs that were written based on the singer’s actual experience in life? Let us know in the comments below!

Seungri Reportedly Embezzled Funds From Burning Sun

Seungri Reportedly Embezzled Funds From Burning Sun

Apr 3, 2019

The latest report by Joongang Ilbo, released April 3, quotes a police source saying that some funds from Burning Sun were traced to bank accounts under different names, after which they were routed to Seungri.

According to the report, police found these suspicious accounts while tracking the flow of Burning Sun’s capital, after which they began a deeper investigation. They then summoned five individuals whose names were on the accounts and obtained testimony that “the accounts were used in relation to Seungri.”

Investigative authorities stated on April 2 that they suspect Seungri and the management of Burning Sun rerouted funds from the club not for tax evasion, but for personal use, and that the embezzled funds are tentatively estimated at tens of millions of won (approximately tens of thousands of dollars).

Previously, Seungri and former Yuri Holdings CEO Yoo In Suk were booked for embezzling from the club Monkey Museum.

A police source stated, “Though we can’t reveal specifics on the matter, we have already completed review of legal precedent in order to prove these crimes.”

Meanwhile, Seungri’s legal representative said, “We need to undergo questioning for these charges before we can release a statement.”

In addition to embezzlement, Seungri is under investigation for prostitution mediation, bribery, and sharing illegally taken footage.

Go Jun Hee To Take Legal Action Against Rumors About Her Ties To Seungri And Alleged Prostitution Mediation

Go Jun Hee To Take Legal Action Against Rumors About Her Ties To Seungri And Alleged Prostitution Mediation

Go Jun Hee To Take Legal Action Against Rumors About Her Ties To Seungri And Alleged Prostitution Mediation

Apr 1, 2019

Go Jun Hee will be taking legal action against rumors about her involvement with Seungri’s ongoing Burning Sun controversies.

On the March 23 broadcast of SBS’s “Unanswered Questions,” messages from a group chatroom of many people — including Seungri, Choi Jong Hoon, and Jung Joon Young — were revealed on the show. They talked about inviting girls to entertain a foreign investor who was in Korea and named an actress who they hoped to invite but happened to be in New York at the time.

After the show aired, some people speculated that the woman was Go Jun Hee and asked with comments on her Instagram, which were denied by the actress.

On April 1, Go Jun Hee posted a statement on her Instagram account following a report that she will no longer be appearing as the female lead of KBS’s upcoming romantic comedy.

Go Jun Hee’s statement is as follows:

Hello. This is Go Jun Hee.

I have a lot of things to say about the current situation, and my head is full of so many thoughts. I couldn’t stay quiet any longer about the recent, groundless rumors about me that were hurting my family and fans who I love, so I’m carefully writing this.

Two weeks ago after the broadcast of “Unanswered Questions, I received a lot of calls from acquaintances who saw my name in related search results. But because this was completely unrelated to me, I reassured those that contacted me and did not respond to each and every speculation. However, the situation snowballed every day, and contrary to the truth, I became someone related to that situation [in the eyes of the public].

Including what’s been reported by some media outlets, I want to clearly state that I have nothing to do with what the rumors are saying.

Seungri is someone I got to know while working in the same industry, and since we were both under YG Entertainment, I can’t say that I didn’t know him. However, it’s completely false that I attended Seungri’s business entertaining meetings, was asked to attend, or was involved in any way in this situation.

I feel frustrated and actually want to ask if the actress they referred to in the KakaoTalk chatroom was actually me, and if so, why they mentioned me. If it’s not me, I want to ask why they aren’t speaking up, when I’ve been pointed out as this actress.

In the end, regardless of my intentions and the truth, I became the center of these rumors and became a victim in this situation, which is so shameful for an actress. It’s also saddening that the focus is being put on the victim, who is criticized and consumed as gossip, rather than the focus being on the relevant perpetrators.

I decided that I could not let this go due to the pain my loving family undergoing due to ‘***’s speculation,’ and I am revealing my stance now.

Not as an actress, but a human being and a woman, I feel a big sense of disappointment and misery at the media and netizens who are spreading false information as if it’s true, and will take legal action without mercy against those who illegally spread or reproduce false information about me.

I pray that my innocence will be clearly shown through the prosecutor’s investigation in the future.

I apologize for causing everyone concern.

Thank you and I’m sorry to everyone who supported me and trusted me throughout the nonsensical speculations.

Sincerely,

Go Jun Hee

Police Make 13 Arrests And Book 103 People In Relation To “Burning Sun Gate”

Police Make 13 Arrests And Book 103 People In Relation To “Burning Sun Gate”

Apr 1, 2019

On April 1, Commissioner Won Kyung Hwan of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency held a press conference regarding the ongoing controversies in relation to the club Burning Sun, and revealed that the police have booked a total of 103 people and imprisoned 13 people.

The Commissioner further revealed that they booked 53 people for drug-related charges at Burning Sun and other clubs, seven of whom were imprisoned. 15 people were booked and four people were arrested for using and/or distributing drugs at Burning Sun, and 29 people were booked and two people were arrested for doing the same at other clubs. Nine people were booked and one person was arrested for distributing the date rape drug Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

On the other hand, an arrest warrant was rejected for Lee Moon Ho, the Burning Sun CEO who tested positive for drugs. Seungri, who was revealed to be one of the three initial investors of Burning Sun and also worked as an executive director, is still being investigated.

Seungri is strongly denying most allegations facing him including the allegations of providing prostitution services for foreign investors, bribing police officers to cover up criminal activities, tax evasion and embezzlement with club Monkey Museum, habitually gambling abroad, drug usagespreading illegally taken photos, and more.

The latest charge made against Seungri was for violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, an anti-corruption law that prohibits individuals from giving and receiving bribes, by gifting Senior Superintendent Yoon three BIGBANG concert tickets.

Regarding this, Commissioner Won Kyung Hwan said, “We are tracing back bank accounts and financial records of Senior Superintendent Yoon and other allegedly corrupt police officers, conducting a search and seizure of golf clubs and offices, and reviewing call records to investigate employees who have at least once exchanged a phone call or met [with Seungri].”

He concluded, “We have acknowledged the public’s criticism that we have been making slow progress with the investigation to uncover corruption within the police. Even if it takes time, we will continue to give regular reports on the investigation progress to show that we are carrying out a fair and transparent investigation.”

Senior Police Officer Booked On Additional Charge Of Receiving Bribes From Seungri

Apr 1, 2019

On April 1, it was revealed that Seungri gifted three BIGBANG concert tickets to Senior Superintendent Yoon.

The officer was previously booked for leaking official confidential information, and he has now been booked for violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act as well.

The Improper Solicitation and Graft Act (also referred to as the Kim Young Ran Act) is an anti-corruption law that prohibits individuals from giving and receiving bribes.

Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Provincial Special Detective Division confirmed that Senior Superintendent Yoon did not pay for a part of his portion of the expenses from a meal and golf game with Seungri and Yoo In Suk (former CEO of Yuri Holdings). While receiving police questioning, Seungri admitted to gifting the officer with tickets.

The police added that they have not yet booked Senior Superintendent Yoon’s wife Chief Superintendent Kim, who also received the tickets. A source from the police said, “To book her on charges of violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, we must figure out the amount [that was exchanged], and further investigation is needed.”

Meanwhile, on the same day, Seungri and Yoo In Suk were booked for embezzling funds of their club Monkey Museum.
