Police Announce Plans To Wrap Up Investigation Of Seungri And Yoo In Suk

Apr 29, 2019

The investigations on Seungri and Yoo In Suk are coming to a close.

Won Kyung Hwan, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, shared through a press conference on April 29, “The Burning Sun investigations have been going on for three months, and the investigations are coming to a close one by one.”

He continued by revealing that the police plan on concluding the investigations on Seungri and Yoo In Suk within this week.

On whether pretrial detention warrants will be issued for the two, Won Kyung Hwan stated, “Pretrial detention warrants are issued depending on overall judgments based on factors including severity of the issues, potential for fleeing, and destruction of evidence.” If the police submit a request, the court will decide whether or not the warrant will be issued.

Regarding Seungri using YG Entertainment’s company card in 2015 to pay for the hotel of a Japanese investor for whom prostitutes were called for, an accountant of YG Entertainment testified that Seungri used the card but was charged for the expenses. The police are reviewing the financial documents submitted by YG Entertainment to confirm this testimony.

About suspicions of Seungri mediating prostitution at his birthday party in Palawan in 2017, the police commented, “Various [factors] have to be reviewed for the Palawan case. The facts have all been sorted out.”

Seungri has been questioned by the police 15 times so far on suspicions including prostitution mediation, embezzlement, sharing of illegal footage, and tax evasion.

Japanese Investor Responds To Accusations Of Seungri Mediating Prostitution Services For Him

Apr 26, 2019

On April 26, Channel A released a news report on Seungri’s alleged involvement in securing prostitutes for Japanese investors at a Christmas party in 2015.

Seungri previously hosted a Christmas party in 2015 at a luxury bar in Cheongdam neighborhood in Seoul. He had invited his celebrity friends such as Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hoon, and Japanese investors, which included “CEO A.”

It was previously reported that police secured evidence of Seungri, who hired about a dozen female workers from an adult entertainment establishment, taking the CEO and his group to a five-star hotel shortly after the party and mediating prostitution services.

During an interview with Channel A, however, the CEO denied these allegations. He stated, “I attended the Christmas party with my wife. The reported suspicions are not true.”

As the head of a Japanese construction company, CEO A, who invested in Seungri’s Japanese-style ramen franchise, emphasized his personal relationship with Seungri over a business relationship. He remarked, “Seungri is a younger brother I’m proud of and an eternal friend.” CEO A became friendly with Seungri after being introduced to the singer by his wife, who had previously worked in the Japanese entertainment industry.

CEO A continued, “I’ve never received [sexual services] from Seungri. The entire family has always been close.”

It was then reported by Channel A that police plan to summon CEO A for questioning. They will question the CEO about his relationship to the 17 women who were recently booked for prostitution charges that may be linked to Seungri’s 2015 party.

K-Pop stars lead luxury brand genderless trend (feat. G-Dragon, BTS and Kang Daniel)

From the runway to retail, catchphrases like “genderless,” “gender-fluid,” “unisex” and “androgynous” have been sweeping the fashion scene over the past few years.

Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci and other major luxury fashion houses are no exceptions. From unisex collections to mixed male and female catwalks, high-end labels are more and more embracing a blur of the masculine-feminine divide.

And on this frontier, K-pop male stars — known for rocking makeup, perfectly groomed styles and the polished pretty-boy look — are leading luxury labels’ gender-bending movement. From gender-neutral fragrance to handbags, sparkling jewelry and women’s jackets, these stars are not only heading the advertisement campaigns, but sporting the fashion in daily life.

For luxury brands seeking to tap into the coveted millennial market for a new source of profit, it’s a smart and natural decision to seize on the widening influence of K-pop. Whatever these stars wear causes pieces to sell out the moment they put it on, inspiring men and women both to dress like these stars.

“With the genderless trend hitting the fashion industry, brands are rolling out lines of apparel that are not limited to a specific gender,” a fashion industry source told Kpop Herald on condition of anonymity. “Against this nonbinary trend, K-pop male idols’ aesthetic, metrosexual image matches well with what luxury brands are aiming for. They can easily pull off clothes that are sometimes too bold or colorful, or outfits largely considered womenswear with ease, while exuding edginess.”

Following are some K-pop male idols luxury brands are falling in love with for defying gender stereotypes.

Kang Daniel

Kang Daniel, formerly of project group Wanna One, is one of the most sought-after stars among coveted luxury houses.

Kang recently endorsed Louis Vuitton’s iconic Twist handbags, which were originally designed in a women’s line. In the campaign, the heartthrob, clad head-to-toe in Louis Vuitton, casually holds the modern and sleek Twist bags with certain ease.

In the campaign titled “New Masculinity,” the chameleonic star breaks the gender stereotype by donning apparel from the women’s’ spring and summer 2019 collection: a cream blazer, sleeveless printed T-shirt, printed dress with oversized sleeves and beige knit dress and white frill blouse, among others.

Last year, he also modeled Chanel’s jewelry line, becoming the first male Korean star to head the brand since G-Dragon. In the photo shoot, he wears earrings, a watch and rings by Chanel, exuding his soft charm to redefine masculinity.

BTS

The global K-pop sensation is not only known for their great music and charm, but also their impeccable fashion sense.

From frill white blouses to dangling earrings, chokers, ever-changing hair colors and heavily lined eyes, the septet is not afraid of straying from gender norms when it comes to expressing their own style.

In the latest “Dionysus” concept photos for the new album “Map of the Soul: Persona,” the bandmates put on various garments from the Gucci women’s collection, including a blue handbag for Jungkook, green houndstooth check sleeveless vest with ribbon trim for V, leather jacket for Jin, a ring for RM, scarf and cardigan for Suga and a necklace, ring and bracelet for J-Hope. Meanwhile Jimin, who can be frequently spotted wearing Chanel apparel, donned a long necklace from the label.

In the concept photo for last year’s “Love Yourself: Answer,” the band flaunted women’s floral pants from Maison Margiela, a ruffled blouse and jacket from Dolce & Gabbana and shirt and sweater from the Gucci women’s collection.

Suga is spotted frequently complementing his look with a brooch of Chanel’s signature interlocking C logo, while RM, along with others in the group, can be seen in skirts for photoshoots.

V wearing Gucci

V, also known as “human Gucci” for his seamless fit with the brand’s glamorous and classic image, can nail anything from the Italian luxury brand, be it floral pants or a satin shirt with a ribbon.

Their fashion-forward style is reflected in how they advocate individuality, self-identity and love through their music.

“No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color, your gender identity — just speak yourself,” said RM in a speech last fall at the UN.

G-Dragon

G- Dragona nd Karl Lagerfeld

Before everyone else, there was G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong. He has long been a front-row fixture at Chanel shows, as a favorite of the recently departed Karl Lagerfeld and brand ambassador for the French luxury house.

Before his military enlistment in February, he had nailed a women’s tweed jacket, pearl and chain necklace, signature Chanel camellia brooch, furry trapper hat and oversized shades at the brand’s fashion shows, adding his own twist by mixing in streetwear brands.

Chanel never officially produced a full menswear collection, but G-Dragon’s daring look proved again that Chanel is not limited to a single gender.

“Few years ago, guys thought Chanel was a women’s thing, but I’m kind of skinny I can wear women’s stuff too — so I think it’s unisex,” G-Dragon was quoted as saying in an interview with Dazed. “It’s because the material quality is so good, and the detail. I’m kind of really into detail and fit. I’m actually wearing a women’s piece right now. When I wear Chanel, I feel like I am not just wearing clothes, I’m wearing Chanel.”

17 Women Booked For Prostitution In Relation To Suspicions Of Seungri’s Mediation With Japanese Businessmen

The police have booked 17 women for prostitution charges that may be linked to Seungri.

Seungri has been suspected of mediating prostitution services in instances including for a foreign investor at Club Arena in 2015, for Japanese investors at a Christmas party in 2015, and at his birthday party in Palawan in 2017.

On April 25, an official at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said, “We investigated and booked 17 women involved in prostitution. Most of them have admitted to the prostitution charges. Of the 17 women who were booked, some were brought in on charges of prostitution and some were for prostitution mediation.”

All the women booked so far are said to be involved in allegations that Seungri mediated sexual favors for Japanese investors.

In an exclusive report from Chosun.com, it was revealed that Yoo In Suk — the former CEO of Yuri Holdings and Seungri’s business partner — admitted to police that prostitutes were called for a Japanese investor (in December 2015) and that there was a payment made for sexual services.

The police are said to have questioned 12 officials, including two from an agency that organized the Palawan birthday party and related events, and questioned 27 others regarding the Japanese investors’ visit to Korea. Yoo In Suk and Seungri were called four times each for the alleged prostitution ring.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported the trips taken by Jung Joon YoungChoi Jong Hoon, Seungri, and more may have led to criminal activity.

In an exclusive report from Chosun.com on April 24, it was revealed that Yoo In Suk — the former CEO of Yuri Holdings and Seungri’s business partner — admitted to police that prostitutes were called for a Japanese investor [in December 2015] and that there was payment for sexual services rendered.

Seungri and Yoo In Suk were both called in for questioning by the police on April 23 regarding suspicions of them mediating prostitution. Specifically, they were questioned about the Japanese investor and his accompanying party of seven to nine that visited Korea in December 2015.

Prior to April 23, both Seungri and Yoo In Suk maintained that there was no provision of prostitution services. However, when police showed Yoo In Suk records of a transaction between him and a woman who manages prostitutes, he said “I’m sorry” and admitted to the allegations.

Seungri is maintaining that he was not involved in any prostitution mediation. When police stated that Seungri paid (30 million won; approximately $25,900) for the hotel where the investor was hosted with prostitutes with a YG Entertainment company card, Seungri acknowledged doing so, but said, “It wasn’t to provide prostitution services.” He explained that he received good hospitality from the investor while abroad and that he wanted to return the favor by paying for his stay in Korea. He said, “I didn’t know there was any prostitution.”

A source from YG responded to reports of Seungri using a company card to pay for the Japanese investor’s hotel, saying, “Personal expenses [put on the card] not related to Seungri’s work were paid by Seungri.”

Meanwhile, police are still investigating whether there was prostitution at Seungri’s birthday party in Palawan in December 2017. A source from Seungri’s side previously stated that the payment to the female escorts was solely for travel expenses, and the escorts corroborated, saying that any sexual activity was voluntary and that they were only paid for travel expenses.

Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, And Seungri’s Vacation Trips Together Suspected Of Criminal Activity

Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, And Seungri’s Vacation Trips Together Suspected Of Criminal Activity

Apr 24, 2019

The “trips between friends” that were taken by Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, Seungri, and more may have led to criminal activity.

On April 24, Seoul Shinmun obtained a copy of Jung Joon Young’s indictment. According to the indictment document, Jung Joon Young is being charged with illegally filming sexual activity 9 times and illegally sharing the videos in KakaoTalk group chatrooms 14 times. This is three more times than the police had previously revealed.

Seoul Shinmun’s report focused on the trip that Jung Joon Young and Seungri took to Taiwan in December 2015. At the time, the two were photographed by local media outlets going on their trip in secret, but it was portrayed as merely a trip between friends. However, Jung Joon Young illegally filmed sexual activity at the hotel during the trip and shared the video in the group chatroom on December 11, 2015.

The police are also investigating Seungri’s comment in the group chatroom on December 6, 2015, where he told people to prepare escorts for Taiwanese customers at a Gangnam club. Seungri is also being investigated by the police concerning suspicions of prostitution mediation at his birthday party in the Philippines.

Similar suspicions have been aroused for domestic trips as well. Channel A reported that women were sexually assaulted during a trip taken by Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, and other group chatroom members to a resort in Gangwon Province in January 2016.

During this trip, Burning Sun employee “Kim” illegally filmed other people’s sexual activity and shared the videos in the group chatroom. “Kim” is being charged with 9 counts of illegal filming and 11 counts of illegal sharing. He has also been accused of rape in an incident that took place at a resort in the United States in April 2016.

According to Seoul Shinmun, Jung Joon Young is being investigated for suspicions of multiple-perpetrator sexual assault in Gangwon Province in January and November 2016.

Jung Joon Young’s preparatory hearing will reportedly take place on May 10.

Channel A Reports Details Of Another Suspected Sexual Assault Perpetrated By Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, And Other Members Of Group Chatroom

Apr 22, 2019

On April 22, Channel A released a news report on the details of another suspected sexual assault perpetrated by the members of the group chatroom including Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, and more.

According to Channel A, a group of women have filed a bill of complaint stating that they were sexually assaulted in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, by Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, and others. The women allege that they were given drinks by the men and have no memory of what happened afterwards.

The report stated that five men, including Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, and a Burning Sun employee, went on a trip to a resort in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, in January 2016. Jung Joon Young reportedly took the lead in planning the trip and invited several female acquaintances along.

According to the report, the police are investigating the group chatroom conversations that happened around this time. The conversations contain language that suggest that the women might have been sexually assaulted at the resort. In addition, some videos were shared that are suspected to have been illegally filmed.

The report further states that although Seungri did not attend the trip, he commented on the videos when they were shared in the chatroom.

Back on April 18, SBS funE reported testimony from a woman identified as “A,” who stated that she was sexually assaulted by five men – Jung Joon Young, Choi Jong Hoon, Burning Sun employee “Kim,” former YG Entertainment employee “Heo,” and businessman “Park” – at a hotel in March 2016.

On April 22, before Channel A’s news report, other news outlets reported that the police were investigating another victim of sexual assault besides “A.” At time of writing, it has not been confirmed whether this case is related to the women in Channel A’s news report.

According to a police source, the police are investigating various KakaoTalk messages that suggest multiple-perpetrator sexual assault. Because the victims are female, investigations of the victims have been passed to the Women’s and Juvenile Affairs Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
