SEOUL, Aug. 16 (Yonhap) — Taeyang of idol band BIGBANG said Wednesday his girlfriend gives him musical inspiration, emphasizing that his new solo album’s title song is about love.

Taeyang, who released his third full-length solo album called “White Night,” said his girlfriend and actress Min Hyo-rin is his “muse” who inspires his musical creativity. It was reported in 2015 that the two celebrities are a couple.

“Just as my previous hit ‘Eyes, Nose, Lips,’ my music can’t be free from the influence of mylover,” Taeyang said at a press conference in Seoul. “Because she is the person whom I love themost, I think she is my muse.”

Taeyang said “Darling” is a love song, denying rumors that the song talks about separation.

“Many people think this song is about separation, but it’s actually a song mixed with the feelingof strong love,” he said.

“White Night” is Taeyang’s first solo work in three years and, just like his other solo albums, thetitle is related to the sun. Taeyang, whose name means “sun” in Korean, previously released a mini solo album called “Hot” in 2008 followed by his first full-length solo album “Solar” in 2010 and second album “Rise” in 2014.

“For the title of my new album, I could only think about the sun going down, but this phenomenon of a white night popped into my head,” he said. “I tried to visualize the feeling of abundantlife force to make the basics of my sound.”

Taeyang said his latest work has more of an R&B flavor rather than hip hop.

“For each of my works, I think I make music that I’m attracted to at that time,” he said. “Unlikemy second album, many people like R&B, so I was able to do what I want, and that’s why this album has more of an R&B sound.”

Taeyang’s third album also features new composers that present a wide selection of the soundspectrum including disco and electric guitar-leading songs. The 29-year-old singer said he hadan “ideal” working environment collaborating with new producers.

“Whichever music you do, I think you can connect with others if you can work with sincerity and have an open mind,” he said. “Making a new attempt is good, but whenever I make a new album, I put sincerity as my top priority.”

Despite enjoying a successful solo career, Taeyang emphasized that his music is rooted in BIGBANG. He added that members’ solo activities have a positive impact on the five-man group.

“My ultimate goal is to see my solo album giving a positive influence to BIGBANG,” he said. “I’m still a member of BIGBANG, and I have to try my best.”

When asked about T.O.P, BIGBANG’s oldest member who was recently indicted for smoking marijuana, Taeyang said he just tried to console the troubled member.

“He regrets his wrongdoings and I think instead of giving advice, I just wanted to console him by staying next to him and listening to his feelings,” he said. “We didn’t talk about serious stuff, but small things when we met. I thought that would help and give more energy to him.”

For his future plans, Taeyang will first start an international tour commemorating the release ofhis third album. The tour will kick off next weekend at Jamsil Gymnasium in Seoul.

“I feel grateful because it’s everybody’s dream to meet with fans and perform in various countries after releasing an album,” he said. “I feel happy that I’m able to work like this.”

Taeyang said he is also ready for his military duty after completing his solo work. All able-bodied Korean men are required to complete at least 21 months of military service before the age of35 in South Korea.

“I don’t know exactly when that time will come, but I have to go when the country calls,” he said. “I’m trying to get ready for it.”

From “Hot” and “Solar” to “Rise,” the past album titles of Big Bang’s Taeyang describe thesinger himself.

Taeyang, whose stage name means “Sun” in Korean, returned with his third full-length soloalbum “White Night” on Wednesday, more than three years after his second full-lengthalbum “Rise” in 2014.

“I came up with the new album’s concept when I was working on my previous album ‘Rise.’ I didn’t want the sun to go down after it rose, and the image of ‘white night,’ a naturalphenomenon of the sun not going down even at night, struck me. I thought the image wasso cool,” said the singer during a press conference for his latest album in Seoul onWednesday.

“For the new album, I worked with new producers I haven’t worked with before, and itexpanded my musical spectrum. Also, I used to focus on choreographies and stageperformances before, but I want to show more of my musical sides this time,” he added.

His latest R&B-influenced album “White Night,” released Wednesday evening, features eighttracks, including the lead track “Darling,” “Wake Me Up,” “Ride” and “Tonight,” whichfeatures rapper Zico.

Describing “Darling” as a love ballad song which people can easily connect to, Taeyangapologized for his lack of explanation on the song ahead of its release, as there had beenrumors that the song was a sad breakup song hinting at the end of his relationship with hisgirlfriend, actress Min Hyo-rin.

Affirming that the song was about deep and passionate love that will touch many couples’ hearts, Taeyang also showed a romantic side of himself by calling Min the person he lovedmost and his muse.

Since Taeyang first embarked on his solo career in 2008 with his first EP “Hot,” the singerhas been rolling out hits, such as “I Need a Girl,” “Where U At,” “Wedding Dress” and “Eyes, Nose, Lips,” which debuted at No. 3 on Billboard’s World Digital Single chart and earnedhim musical awards.

He is undoubtedly a successful soloist, but Taeyang said his heart and roots belong to BigBang, one of the most influential K-pop acts to date since its debut in 2006.

“We’ve stayed together since very young, and we are still each other’s closest families andfriends. There’s no need to say my music is heavily influenced by the times I’ve spent withthe group, since I have my roots in Big Bang,” Taeyang said.

His main goal was for his new album to have a positive impact on his own music and onBig Bang, said Taeyang. Seeing G-Dragon’s recent album yielding worldwide success alsobecame a motivation for him.

Mentioning his bandmate T.O.P, who recently received a suspended prison term for smokingmarijuana several times last year, Taeyang said he has tried his best to support the troubledrapper, who is his close friend.

“I thought the best I could do for him was to be by his side. Instead of giving him advice, I tried to listen to his thoughts, visit him as often as I could, and talk about less seriousthings, since there are things that he has to process and realize on his own,” he said.

Asked about his upcoming enlistment, the 29-year-old singer, who is expected to begin hismandatory military service this year, calmly said he is ready to carry out his duty soon.

Confessing that he was obsessed with his musical career and success in the past, the singeralso said that his perspective on life has changed. He now focuses on taking care of hispersonal relationships and the people he cares about, such as his family and friends.

“There are so many things I’ve learned from working in this industry for the past 10 years, and one of them is to have ‘sincerity.’ Whichever music I do, without ‘sincerity’ at its core, there’s no way I can communicate with fans,” he said.

Following the release of “White Night,” Taeyang will hold concerts from Aug. 26-27 at Jamsil Stadium in southern Seoul, as part of his ongoing world tour. After the Seoul concert, Taeyang will visit eight Asian cities in fall, including Manila, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Taipei from September to October.
