BIGBANG’s G-Dragon and Taeyang Stump Almost Everyone With Masked Performance on “Infinity Challenge”

BIGBANG’s G-Dragon and Taeyang Stump Almost Everyone With Masked Performance on “Infinity Challenge”

BIGBANG‘s G-Dragon and Taeyang took part in “Infinity Challenge“‘s special tenth anniversary special which included some awesome masked performances by a variety of stars, which were inspired by the song competition show “King of Mask Singer.” The “Infinity Challenge” members are also joined by some celebrity advisers such as Park Jin Young and Yoo Hee Yeol to help them guess who each of the masked performers are.

Although fans of the show had heard about the identities of several of the guests before the episode aired, such as G-Dragon, Taeyang and IU, it seems that the “Infinity Challenge” members were really in the dark about the performers’ identities when they filmed it, which makes for a great episode!

The last performers to take to the stage are G-Dragon and Taeyang, who perform a hip hop song by the 1990s duo Yook Kak Soo that’s inspired by Korean traditional music. They’re both wearing costumes and masks, with G-Dragon’s mask bearing a striking resemblance to “Infinity Challenge” member Park Myung Soo, and they try to disguise their voices as they sing.

After the performance, Haha says he’s sure that they’re hip hop artists. Many of the panelists are stumped because the two are such good singers. It’s even suggested at one point that they might just actually be Yook Kak Soo staging a comeback.

Yoo Hee Yeol guesses that they’re the comic rock duo Norazo, because of the accessories he can see under their costumes.

They then ask IU, who has correctly guessed all the other contestants so far. “I’m pretty sure it’s Taeyang,” she says confidently, to the shock of the other panelists. “It sounded like his voice. He was making his voice scratchy to hide it, but he was also dancing way too well.”

Haha goes further by saying that the duo seem to be either G-Dragon and T.O.P or G-Dragon and Taeyang.

MC Yoo Jae Suk then turns to the duo to ask them if they usually perform as a duet. “Yes, well, sometimes…” answers Taeyang in his mask. His voice has been distorted for him, but he tries to disguise it more himself, which cracks the panel up.

Watch July 4's episode of “Infinity Challenge” to see everyone’s reaction when the duo takes off their masks!

[Music Talk Talk] BIGBANG dominates charts for 64 days in a row… Where is the end of the record?

201507030912776792_5595d45e38d05_99_20150703091703

[OSEN=??? ??] It seems there is no end for BIGBANG’s new record for 2015. “IF YOU” and “SOBER”, songs included in “D” of “MADE SERIES”, which was released on July 1, is sweeping the No.1 and No.2 places on major music charts in the morning on the 3. Such domination of charts by BIGBANG is going on 64 days in a row.

What is surprising is that not only “BANG BANG BANG” and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” released on June 1, but also “LOSER” and “BAE BAE” released on May 1 are still staying in top ten on charts. It is an unprecedented record in Korea’s music scene, for a singer of group to rank multiple songs in top ten on charts for 64 consecutive days.

As such, the music industry goes into an emergency mode in the beginning of every month when BIGBANG releases new songs. Many singers are adjusting their schedule of new release, to avoid confrontation with BIGBANG. The rush of girl groups’ comeback which was expected to excite this summer’s music scene is also overwhelmed by BIGBANG’s explosive power.

BIGBANG is realizing their goal of “making all songs in an album into title tracks”, by leading their unprecedented project of releasing new songs every month from May to August to great success. The project was launched by YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK, to release BIGBANG’s new songs on the 1 of every month from May this year. This kind of plan was possible because it is carried out BIGBANG, and it is evaluated as a new trial and fresh attempt that goes against the existing trend of the current music scene. After releasing “E” of the series in August, a full-length album will be completed under the title of “MADE” in September.

Music videos are creating sensation, too. The music video of “SOBER” released with the music on the 1 at 0 o’clock has surpassed 1 million views, recording total 1,140,237 views within eight hours from release. The number of views of “LOSER”, “BAE BAE”, “BANG BANG BANG”, and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” has surpassed 100 million views on YouTube all together, and now BIGBANG is to set a new record with the video of “SOBER”. The videos of “IF YOU” and “SOBER” are adding to BIGBANG sensation, by surpassing four million views within two days from release.

“IF YOU” that is now sweeping charts is known as the saddest ever song in the history of BIGBANG, and drew a big attention even before its release. The song’s calm and sophisticated voice color and melody, as well as sad lyrics are catching the ears of listeners. Notably, T.O.P and G-DRAGON’s tender vocal gives a fresh impression. “SOBER” is a cool summer song that fits perfectly with the season, which entertains music fans with a fresh appeal completely different from “IF YOU”.

In an interview before the release of “IF YOU”, YG’s head YANG said in an interview with OSEN, “’IF YOU’ is the saddest ever song in the history of BIGBANG, and is my personal favorite in BIGBANG’s latest album. I was overwhelmed with emotions while listening to the song. It surely is the saddest ever song among all the songs BIGBANG has released for nine years. I’m in my forties and was so much touched by the song, then, it will touch not only teenagers and twenty-somethings but also people from all generations to burst into tears. It is the first time for me to get more excited about BIGBANG’s new album than the members themselves”, and YANG’s prediction is now being realized.

[Music Talk Talk] “BIGBANG=No.1”… Secret of the formula

201506290717779184_5590733c02066_99_20150629075106

[OSEN=??? ??] It is just as expected. BIGBANG is sweeping the music scene with their third single as everyone expected, proving their power once again.

BIGBANG released “D”, the third single of their “MADE” project, on July 1 at 0 o’clock. The single includes sad ballad “IF YOU” and summer song “SOBER”. The two songs have totally different moods, and now they are dominating music charts.

BIGBANG has been setting a record of dominating all music charts in Korea with three singles of “MADE” project, proving their enormous potential for three consecutive months from May. They take the No.1 on charts upon the release of new songs, and make more than three songs be ranked in top ten. The formula that “BIGBANG is always the No.1 on charts” is still applied.

The biggest reason behind the popularity of BIGBANG’s music among the public is because, of course, it is “good music”. BIGBANG always expresses their own color explicitly, to the extent that people say it is “BIGBANG-ish”, while taking a new departure every time. The familiar but new and fresh appeal is the power that makes people listen to BIGBANG music continuously.

Notably, BIGBANG write their own songs, so they are clearly differentiated from other boy groups who are categorized as “idol group”. When G-DRAGON appeared in JTBC’s “News Room” last month, he expressed his confidence by saying, “We write our own songs and that appeals to the public well. We have a self-confident in our songs”. Just as G-DRAGON’s remark, BIGBANG works on their own songs, to create the optimal music that best fits themselves.

One of the appeals of BIGBANG’s music is that it is unpredictable. In “BAE BAE” released in May, BIGBANG shouts “Chapsalteok” (Korean sticky rice cake) while complimenting a 25-year-old woman, and gives a fresh feel by shouting “Bangya Bangya Bangya” in “BANG BANG BANG”, while doing a disciplined group dance. BIGBANG’s uniquely witty lyrics and ideas express the color of their music to the full extent.

The latest song “IF YOU” and “SOBER” are not just a sad ballad and an exciting summer song. “IF YOU” sings a sad and sentimental emotions that can be sympathized by the public, in a tender and calm way, to complete a “BIGBANG-style” ballad. Most of all, even rapper T.O.P sings for the song, creating a unique color. BIGBANG’s unique mood and bold lyrics also stand out in “SOBER”. It is not just exciting dance music, but it expresses BIGBANG’s own color with the subtle mood.

As such, BIGBANG’s music that can appeal to the public taste while expressing their own intense color is all the more special in the current music scene. The public has firm trust in BIGBANG to the extent that they call the team “God-BANG”, and BIGBANG always live up to such expectations by leading the trend. Such trust and the power of music is understood as the natural power which created the formula of “BIGBANG=No.1”.

Music fans are paying keen attention to what kind of “subtly delicate music” BIGBANG will present next month, after their domination of the music scene from May until this month.

BIGBANG Wrapped Up in Plagiarism Speculations Concerning “Sober”

BIGBANG Wrapped Up in Plagiarism Speculations Concerning “Sober”

BIGBANG has been wrapped up in plagiarism speculations concerning their latest song “Sober.”

Namely, some netizens have been raising doubts about the originality of the song citing its similarity to U.K. pop band The Wanted‘s “Glad You Came,” which was released in August of 2011. There has been pushback by other netizens claiming that the two songs don’t sound similar at all.

The specific part of “Sober” that is at issue is the hook, arguably the most important part of any pop song as it’s what catches the ear of the listener. Netizens are claiming that the hook of “Sober” (1:01-1:15) sounds all too similar to the hook of “Glad You Came” (1:04-1:19).

In response to the controversy, Huffington Post uploaded a video that synchronizes the two songs in BPM and key as closely as possible. Watch the video below, and share with us your thoughts. Is there a significant similarity between the two songs or are netizens overreacting?
