These Male K-Pop Stars Prove That There Are No Gender Boundaries In Fashion

Aug 18, 2019

K-pop as an industry has long been pushing the boundaries of fashion. From stages and music videos to photo shoots and even street wear, K-pop is constantly shattering gender norms by refusing to adhere to traditional expectations of beauty and fashion. These male stars are all trendsetters in their own right. They’re redefining masculinity in Korea and all over the globe with their fashion choices that might be considered androgynous or perhaps more traditionally feminine. Here are just a few of the male idols out here proving that anyone can wear what they want to.

BIGBANG’s G-Dragon

A post shared by 권지용 (@xxxibgdrgn) on

G-Dragon has never been one to ascribe to the typical fashion trends, and his Instagram is chock full of boundary-breaking looks. He seems to be a big fan of nail polish in particular, and several of his posts feature painted nails in a variety of colors. He’s even shared a photo of what appears to be his extensive stash of nail polishes — it’s an envy-worthy collection of colors, that’s for sure!

EXO’s Xiumin and Sehun

The members of EXO are no strangers to nail polish either. Xiumin is one member in particular who has been known to sport some bold nail colors on a semi-regular basis, but this example from their “Wolf” MV is particularly memorable for the messy, ultra-cool “I-don’t-care-what-you-think” vibe. EXO’s youngest member Sehun also featured as the first cover model for SuperELLE magazine back in 2017, and his edgy nail art was a key point of the look. It’s also the perfect style for someone who’s looking for a low-key way to try out nail polish!

SEVENTEEN’s The8

The8 is a member of the Performance Unit and SEVENTEEN’s resident b-boying master, but he’s also a total fashion icon. He’s featured in tons of fashion magazines, and his Instagram is all the OOTD inspo you’ll ever need. His looks are always unique, and he often pushes gender norms with his androgynous photo shoot ‘fits featuring delicate florals, soft pastels, and adventurous cuts. With long legs and runway-worthy features like his, it’s no wonder why The8 rocks literally everything he wears.

WayV’s Xiaojun and Ten + NCT’s Yuta

NCT stands out not only for its unique and innovative concept, but for the group’s bold fashion choices as well. They’re always on the cutting edge of the trends in South Korea and worldwide. While Xiaojun, Ten, and Yuta certainly aren’t the only members who’ve elected to ignore the traditional rules of fashion, these outfits are stunning examples of some of their gender-fluid looks. From Ten’s sheer red top to Xiaojun’s and Yuta’s pleated skirts, there is no limit to what they can pull off.

NU’EST’s Ren

NU’EST’s youngest member Ren has been pushing the boundaries of masculinity with his style choices ever since his debut. He’s well-known for his gorgeous long hair from earlier eras, and he’s no stranger to other traditionally feminine styles like lace, florals, and painted nails. He even featured in advertisements for a women’s online clothing store back in 2016, modeling dresses, skirts, and blouses with stunning fluidity.

SHINee’s Key

Key is another star who’s not afraid to push the boundaries of male fashion, and he’s proven his icon status in the dozens of magazine shoots and covers he’s done over the course of his career. He’s a fashion king capable of pulling off virtually any concept out there, including clothing that’s usually reserved for women (like edgy black skirts, or soft lacy button-ups). At this point, we’re convinced that Key could make a potato sack look like haute couture!

GOT7’s Mark

The members of GOT7 are all fashion icons, but this recent photo shoot from The Star magazine featuring the eldest member Mark is particularly notable for its stereotype-smashing outfits. The juxtaposition between Mark’s strong features and the eye-catching sequins or the luxurious string of pearls made for an incredibly interesting shoot, and he pulled off every look effortlessly. Where can I get a floral puffer coat like this one?!

BTS

BTS has been experimenting with fashion ever since their debut, and over the years the members have developed their own styles that speak to their unique personalities. They’re well-known for their ability to rock any look, and they’ve featured in multiple photo shoots wearing everything from skirts to fishnets. BTS is constantly setting trends, and their gender-fluid looks have caught a lot of attention in the K-pop world and beyond.

11 K-Pop Idols Whose Fashion Sense Is Out Of This World

Aug 15, 2019

K-pop idols are incredibly talented not only on stage, but also when off-duty. While probably all of them own a wardrobe we’d kill for, some idols have become fashion icons and demonstrated they’re serious about their style, always showing up looking flawless for everything from live performances to a red carpet or even the airport hallways. In search of some fashion-inspo? Get ready to feel some style-envy while you check out these idols whose sense of style is simply out of this world.

EXO’s Kai

Simple yet luxurious. Kai knows how to combine high-end brands with simple cuts and clean frames, with a focus on prints, textures, and accessories (plus, crop tops). He’s without a doubt one of the most stylish idols out there, so it’s not surprising he was named global ambassador by Gucci.

Sandara Park

Urban, modern, eclectic, carefree, those are a few words you could use to describe Sandara Park’s style. From baggy pants to matching sets, beanies, fun dresses, and lots of layering, Dara has shown us for years she has the fashion ship interested in her soul.

ATEEZ’s Hongjoong

A beret lover, Hongjoong is not afraid to try new things when talking style. With prints, stripes, textures, layers, and LOTS of accessories, he’s always on the lookout for fun accents to add to his outfits, both on and off the stage.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie

Jennie has declared her love for fashion on many occasions. She can pull off both urban, relaxed styles and fancy, luxurious ones. A global ambassador for Chanel, Jennie has found her own way to combine streetwear with haute couture, and there’s no one doing it as well as her.

The Boyz’s Hwall

Hwall has been turning heads ever since his debut, but for the past year, his fashion sense has become stronger than ever, gifting us with outfits we just keep obsessing over. Almost always incorporating black in his looks, his grunge-eclectic-dark style continuously pushes the limits of what we’re used to.

Sunmi

Queen not only on the stage but also on the streets — and her Instagram account. Sunmi loves to mix a feminine style with normcore accents and of course, some luxury accessories and details in order to stand out.

BTS’s V

Considered by many one of the biggest style icons in K-pop, V knows how to put together an incredible outfit while looking effortless. A big fan of color, prints, textures, layers, and of course, Gucci, V has never been afraid of wearing whatever he wants, no matter how eccentric others may think it is.

Apink’s Naeun

Sporty yet chic with a street touch, Naeun knows how to dress comfortably while looking fab. A streetwear advocate and a fan of clean cuts and minimalism, her fashion sense serves as inspo for both her fans and people all around the world.

SEVENTEEN’s The8

Patches, lots of denim, belts, hats, matching sets, high-end fashion, street-wear, colors, minimal… there’s absolutely nothing The8 can’t pull off, and he knows it. At this point, we’ve probably seen him try everything and anything, with both hair and clothes, and the result is always outstanding.

Red Velvet’s Joy

Joy achieved the perfect point where sweet, sexy, and chic meet, all while looking effortless. She enjoys fashion, and we can tell by checking out her airport outfits, where she’s always down to play a little and try new things, especially when talking urban and cute styles.

BIGBANG’s G-Dragon

A fashion icon. Period. Do we really need to explain here? GD opened the door for many other idols to experiment and not be afraid of breaking away from the norm. Colors, layering, accessories, GD has tried every single style out there, combining retail brands with haute couture and always succeeding.

Update: Yang Hyun Suk Suspected Of Illegal Foreign Exchange And Gambling Abroad + Seungri Also Suspected Of Gambling

Aug 8, 2019

Updated August 8 KST:

JTBC’s “Newsroom” reports that in addition to Yang Hyun Suk being suspected of gambling abroad, the police also plan to bring in Seungri for questioning on the same suspicions.

On the August 8 episode of the news show, it was stated that Yang Hyun Suk visited a VIP room at the MGM Hotel Casino in Las Vegas at least 11 times. It’s said that a person has to make a deposit of 1.5 billion won (approximately $1,241,000) to earn member status for this VIP room.

The police have found that Yang Hyun Suk bet over 1 billion won (approximately $827,300) and lost around 600 million won (approximately $496,200) of that.

JTBC reports that Seungri visited the VIP room of this hotel casino four times, and bet 2 billion won (approximately $1,654,000). It’s said that he mainly played Baccarat and lost about 1.3 billion won (approximately $1,075,700).

It’s reported that on each game, Yang Hyun Suk and Seungri would put down anywhere from 3 million won (approximately $2,480) to 10 million won (approximately $8,270).

Through an association for Nevada casinos, the police have acquired records of when Yang Hyun Suk and Seungri entered the casino, the number of times they gambled, how much they gambled, and whether they won or lost.

JTBC states that the internal investigation on this matter has changed to an official investigation, and the police will soon be calling in both Yang Hyun Suk and Seungri.

In March, it was reported that messages from Seungri showed references to habitual gambling abroad. Seungri later denied that he had really gambled, saying he was just “bluffing” and had lied about earning money through gambling to show off.

Because South Korea follows the Territorial Principle, Koreans can be punished for gambling abroad even if the act is considered legal by local laws.

Original Article:

Yang Hyun Suk is under suspicion of illicit foreign exchange and overseas gambling.

According to Ilyo Shinmun, Yang Hyun Suk was found to have engaged in unregistered foreign exchange transactions, and the police are currently suspecting that the money may have been used as funds for gambling abroad.

The police were first informed about the suspicions in April and officially began investigating the suspicions on August 7. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Sophisticated Crime Investigation Division received the related data from the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and confirmed that there were suspicious money transactions.

FIU is an organization under the Financial Services Commission that was established to prevent money laundering and illegal outflows of foreign currencies. They provide data to eight designated institutes like the police, prosecution, and the National Tax Service when necessary for investigations.

Dispatch further reported on the overseas gambling suspicions. Yang Hyun Suk reportedly used a VIP room at a hotel in Las Vegas, United States and played Baccarat. An anonymous informant stated, “There’s no need for him to take money for gambling, as he can borrow dollars locally and return the money in won in Korea. As far as I know, he usually exchanges ‘by hand.’ Someone from Yang Hyun Suk’s side personally delivers [the money] to the illicit money exchange dealer.”

According to FIU, he also used bank accounts for the illegal transactions. Approximately 1.3 billion won (approximately $1 million) were exchanged by unregistered foreign exchange transactions.

A source from the police stated in a call with Dispatch, “We are currently analyzing the data we received from FIU. We are gathering evidence regarding the overseas gambling from various sources.”

A source from YG Entertainment shared, “We also found out about this through the reports. There is nothing else we can confirm.”

G-Dragon’s Art Exhibit Deemed To Be Within Korean Army Regulations

G-Dragon’s Art Exhibit Deemed To Be Within Korean Army Regulations

G-Dragon’s Art Exhibit Deemed To Be Within Korean Army Regulations

Aug 6, 2019

The Korean army has stated that BIGBANG member G-Dragon’s current art exhibit is not a violation of army regulations.

G-Dragon’s art exhibit “Untitled 2017” is currently taking place in Taipei, Taiwan and will also be held in Singapore, China, Thailand, Indonesia, and Hong Kong.

G-Dragon’s artworks were printed onto acrylic frames and made available for sale. 300 copies of his painting “Untitled 2017” are being sold for $518 each, while 700 copies for each of the six pieces in the “Flower Road” series are being sold for $218 each. As a result, questions were raised about the purpose of the exhibit and whether it can be considered to be of a profit-seeking nature. G-Dragon is currently serving in the army, and military laws prevent soldiers from engaging in profit-seeking activities.

Regarding this, a source from the Korean army stated to Maeil Business Newspaper, “We do not consider G-Dragon’s exhibit to be a profit-seeking activity. He made the artworks prior to his enlistment, and because it is a temporary event, we consider it to be a creative activity.”

G-Dragon enlisted last February, and his discharge date is set for October 26.

BIGBANG’s GDragon Opens an Art Exhibition in 6 Different Countries Ahead of His Upcoming Military Discharge

GDragon showed off his artworks to the public.

The art exhibition, which was titled ‘Untitled, 2017,’ was opened for the first time in Taipei, Taiwan on August 1st. The exhibition was held on a reservation basis — only 40 people were admitted to each session at the gallery. It will be also opened in other countries, including Singapore, Shanghai, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Hong Kong.

There are a total of 7 artworks personally painted by GDragon in the exhibition. It is said that GDragon painted them before he joined the military.

In the prologue of the exhibition, GDragon wrote,

“When I’m on stage, the waving hands of fans make me feel like I’m floating on a flower-covered road. All night long I paint, listening to our songs, my heart filled with gratitude to my fans. I hope my sincere, deep gratitude, not fleeting embellishment, reaches you, my beloved friends.

I thought about the four seasons, and how the audience appears to me on stage — how they remind me of flowers. While making this work, I listened to our songs that fill me with precious memories. I wrote down a letter at first, but no word would do justice to my feelings. I had too much to say, so I painted over everything on the different roads.”

The exhibition will also offer limited-edition merchandise, including six designs from the ‘Flower Road’ Series (US$218 each) and one from ‘Untitled, 2017’ (US$518 each). All imprinted with serial number.

Meanwhile, GDragon will be discharged on October 26th.

Police Conduct Search And Seizure On Businesses Located In Building Owned By Daesung

Police Conduct Search And Seizure On Businesses Located In Building Owned By Daesung

Police Conduct Search And Seizure On Businesses Located In Building Owned By Daesung

Aug 4, 2019

On August 4, Seoul Gangnam Police Station revealed that they conducted a search and seizure on businesses located on six floors in the building owned by BIGBANG’s Daesung on charges including violations of food sanitation laws.

The search and seizure was carried out from 11 a.m. KST to 2:45 p.m. KST on August 4. A source from the police station explained, “It was conducted to look into matters related to violations of facility standards and hiring of hostesses. We will analyze the evidence we have collected and continue our investigation.”

Daesung acquired the building in 2017. It is currently under suspicion of housing illegal adult entertainment businesses and facilitating prostitution. In April, four of the businesses were found to be violating food sanitation laws. Of those, one was found to have registered as a regular restaurant establishment but had employed and advertised hostesses. The business will face a month-long suspension that begins on August 16. The other three were also registered as regular restaurant establishments but were found to be operating as adult entertainment businesses, even installing karaoke machines in their spaces.

The police has forwarded the case against the four business owners to the prosecutor’s office.

Daesung has released an official statement regarding the matter, explaining that as he had enlisted in the military soon after acquiring the building, he was unaware of what was going on but would do his best as the landlord to resolve the situation.

BIGBANG’s Daesung Reportedly Lists Gangnam Building For Sale

BIGBANG’s Daesung Reportedly Lists Gangnam Building For Sale

BIGBANG’s Daesung Reportedly Lists Gangnam Building For Sale

Aug 1, 2019

BIGBANG member Daesung is allegedly selling his building in Gangnam, which recently made headlines for illegal businesses being conducted inside.

On August 1, Channel A reported that Daesung has put his building on the market.

According to the report, Daesung’s building is listed for sale at 40 billion won (approximately $33.5 million). If the building were to sell for its currently listed price, Daesung would make a profit of about 5 billion won (approximately $4.2 million).

A reporter from Channel A called a broker to ask about the listing after revealing he was a reporter. The broker feigned ignorance and replied that he didn’t know who BIGBANG was. When the reporter called again under the guise of an interested buyer and asked if Daesung put his building on the market, the real estate broker replied, “Yes, that’s correct. There’s a team working covertly [to sell] it. We’ll make it happen quickly.”

The real estate broker stated that Daesung first showed interest in selling the building in June, which, according to the report, was after Daesung’s side became aware that Channel A was preparing to report on the illegal adult entertainment businesses in the building at the end of March.

The real estate broker continued to persuade the “buyer” by reassuring him that Daesung’s entertainment agency was also involved in the selling process. The real estate broker stated, “Yes, it’s “Y” Entertainment. I won’t add the ‘G.'” YG Entertainment, however, denied any involvement.

A source from the real estate industry said that it was unusual for a building worth tens of billions of won to be put back on the market this quickly. They said, “An average person doesn’t do that because liquidizing real estate is not easy.”

Channel A concluded its report by adding that the police are having a hard time with their investigations because the adult entertainment businesses in Daesung’s building have already begun closing down.
