7 Korean Rap Songs With Lessons That Make Us Reflect

Nov 5, 2019

Rap music has been known for its deep and reflective messages ever since it came to be, and Korean hip hop makes sure to keep that tradition alive. Idol or not, Korean rappers have penned many inspirational lyrics that gave us insight on life matters and often left us pondering the meaning that lies between the lines.

Here is a selection of Korean rap songs that address some of life’s deepest issues.

1. RM – “Moonchild”

We all face ups and downs in life that leave us lost at times, not knowing what to do or where to go next. RM is no stranger to this perplexing matter, which can be perceived in his lyrics. His song “Moonchild” says that even amidst rising challenges, we can learn to take it upon ourselves to draw the line and make peace with our struggles instead of letting them overwhelm us.

2. Song Mino ft. BIGBANG’s Taeyang – “Fear”

Fear is a natural feeling that we all face at least once in our lives, and Mino couldn’t have described it better in his track of the same name. Whether we’re afraid of the unknown, failure, or making wrong decisions, we can find ourselves in scenarios that leave us unable to move forward. Facing our fears is far from an easy task, but channeling that feeling and turning it into energy can be rewarding in ways you might not have considered before.

3. Epik High ft. Nell’s Kim Jong Wan – “Lost One”

There are times when you end up hitting a dead end while chasing your dreams, and if there is anyone who knows a thing or two about that it would be Tablo of Epik High. You may feel that everything is turning against you and everyone is out to get you, and that can make you lose track of your path. Nothing can clear up that fogginess in your mind like standing up for yourself against all odds, even the shackles of potential success. According to “Lost One,” the key is to follow a path that gives you inner serenity despite what others preach.

4. Cheetah – “Coma 07”

We all get second chances at life, and sometimes it can happen quite literally. Either way, the lesson to take from this heartfelt track from Cheetah’s own personal experience is that it’s never too late to hold on to what you believe in and fight to make it come to life. With a little bit of hope and a lot more willpower, you can be and do whatever you set your mind to.

5. MFBTY – “The Cure”

Whenever you hit a bump (or several) in life, it can bring you down and make you feel all alone. MFBTY knows enough about that experience to voice it clearly in their track below. The truth is, we all find ourselves in such situations at some point, and there is nothing wrong with that. Just remember that you can reach out and voice your worries, and that there will always be someone out there to help you move through them until you find your cure.

6. Jessi – “Unpretty Dreams”

How far would you go to make your dreams come true? Some draw a mind map to visualize it, and others walk the actual journey to see it happen. Jessi did both, and proudly raps about her experience through her song “Unpretty Dreams.” As she delivers her empowering message, the rapper states that no matter the sacrifices you make and the challenges you face, every hurdle you come across fades the minute you succeed in achieving your dream.

7. Zico – “Human”

Zico delves into the fascinating aspects of human nature in his song “Human,” where he addresses how we tend to grow up before our time and let adulthood take over the innocence of our short-lived youth. He also mentions that we question other people’s good intentions, yet we forget to be good to ourselves. At the end of the day, Zico implies that true growth is learning to accept ourselves as we are in order to do the same for others around us.

Which one of these rap songs makes you reflect the most? Let us know in the comments below!

After a series of teasers, we now have an official look at G-Dragon‘s upcoming PEACEMINUSONE x Nike collaboration. Dubbed the PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise,” celebrates the BIGBANG leader’s infatuation with hip-hop and the element of style expression associated with the music genre.

“Ever since I came across hip-hop as a kid, AF1 has had a meaning greater than just shoes,” says G-DRAGON. “I couldn’t afford them, so I would always pass the Nike store and admire them with my eyes and heart only. For those who loved hip-hop culture, oversized clothes, hats and matching-colored AF1s was the uniform.”

Centered around the South Korean superstar’s growth in a worldwide phenomenon, the low cut AF1 features a premium leather upper painted over with a special black coating that wears away over time to reveal a personal artwork created by G-Dragon. The hidden artwork is inspired by G-Dragon’s sense of optimism towards art as a form of self-expression for youth around the world to be unified through collective creativity.

The upper also comes complete with contrast white Swoosh branding, embroidered daisy motifs at the tongue, branded thick laces and removable custom pins in the upper eyelets. Rounding up the design of the shoe is a PEACEMINUSONE marked white lining, printed insoles and an AF1 sole unit dressed all over with haphazardly applied strokes of black paint.

Rumored to be priced at $200 USD, G-Dragon’s PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise” is set to release globally November 23. YG Shares Update On Taeyang And Daesung’s Military Discharge Location + Asks Fans Not To Visit

Nov 4, 2019

YG Entertainment has shared a statement regarding the upcoming military discharges of Taeyang and Daesung.

Previously in October, the agency asked fans not to visit for their discharges due to the African swine fever (ASF) virus.

On November 4, YG released the following statement:

Hello. This is YG Entertainment.

This is a request regarding the military discharges of BIGBANG members Taeyang and Daesung.

According to the Ministry of National Defense, Taeyang and Daesung will be discharged on November 10 at the Ground Operations Command in Yongin of Gyeonggi Province.

The military bases where the two are serving are both in border territory where the African swine fever (ASF) virus has been detected and in the central control area, so a representative of the military has explained that their discharge location has been changed as fans and reporters are expected to visit.

In addition, it is also difficult to have parking spaces arranged separately on the day of their discharge at the Ground Operations Command, and the space in front of the base is very limited, so we request that fans and reporters avoid visiting due to safety concerns.

We sincerely thank the many people who have been waiting for the discharges of Taeyang and Daesung, and we earnestly request for your understanding and cooperation again.

Thank you.

[Article] G-Dragon Officially Announces Upcoming PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Collaboration

Leaked many a time just throughout the last few months, G-Dragon and his very own label PEACEMINUSONE have clearly spent quite a bit of time on his own Nike collaborations: a fitting, and momentous celebration in honor of the K-Pop legend’s release from the army.

Bearing no militaristic influence, however, the pair — which is likely to be the Air Force 1 of distressed accents — is more a return to his most playful form and a passionate nod to the customizations he makes on his personal pairs. Uppers are seemingly hand-painted in stark black, showcasing imperfections through its finish with white swooshes, lining, and sole units likely being the only remains of what may have been an underlying Triple White pair.

Tongues brandish with the label’s classic sunflower logo — complete with just one petal missing in connection to its namesake — while the walls of the midsole take on subtle brush marks throughout, a personal motif that is matched only by the tie-dye insole. Grab a quick look at these right here and keep an eye out for word on official release dates and images.

[Article] Yang Hyun Suk And Seungri To Be Forwarded To Prosecution On Charges Of Habitual Gambling

Yang Hyun Suk And Seungri To Be Forwarded To Prosecution On Charges Of Habitual Gambling

Yang Hyun Suk And Seungri To Be Forwarded To Prosecution On Charges Of Habitual Gambling

Oct 31, 2019

The police will be forwarding former YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk and Seungri to the prosecution on charges of habitual gambling.

According to the police on October 31, the Sophisticated Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, which has been investigating the case since August, will be forwarding both men to the prosecution on November 1 with recommendations for indictment on charges of habitual gambling.

In addition to Yang Hyun Suk and Seungri, a total of five individuals have been confirmed to be forwarded to the prosecution on the same charges. A police source stated that the three other individuals involved were Yang Hyun Suk’s acquaintances who were neither celebrities nor public figures.

Police have estimated that Yang Hyun Suk used hundreds of millions of won (approximately hundreds of thousands of dollars) for gambling, and Seungri was reported to have used over 1 billion won (approximately $861,260). Seungri was found to have gambled only at a Las Vegas-based hotel, while Yang Hyun Suk gambled at several hotels. Although both individuals admitted to habitually gambling, they did not gamble together.

According to police, Yang Hyun Suk and Seungri visited Las Vegas to gamble when they traveled abroad one or two times a year. For five years, they reportedly made less than 10 gambling trips to Las Vegas. However, the police revealed that they did not look into their habitual gambling from before 2014 as the statute of limitations is five years.

Although Yang Hyun Suk and Seungri were also suspected of using “hwanchigi,” which refers to illegal practices surrounding foreign exchange transaction, to fund their gambling, they were forwarded to the prosecution with recommendations for non-indictment regarding the charges of violating the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act.

“We checked financial accounts, currency exchange details, and corporate accounting data during the five-year statute of limitations, and we investigated all of the informants and partners,” a police official said. “We were unable to find any violations of the Foreign Exchange Transaction Act.”

The police also looked into the possibility of Yang Hyun Suk using company funds for gambling through an investigation into the company’s accounting records and financial officer, but they found no circumstantial evidence of embezzlement.
