FTISLAND’s Choi Jong Hoon Allegedly Asked Police To Cover Up Past Drunk Driving Incident

Mar 13, 2019

On March 13, news outlet YTN exclusively reported that FTISLAND’s Choi Jong Hoon, who is a speculative member of a group chatroom including Seungri and Jung Joon Young, used his connections to the police to cover up a drunk driving incident from three years ago.

According to the report, Choi Jong Hoon was caught by a police officer from Seoul Yongsan Police Station for drunk driving in March 2016. While it is still unknown whether he qualified to get his license suspended or revoked, it’s been confirmed that he tested to have a blood alcohol content of 0.05 percent at the time of the incident.

Afterwards, Choi Jong Hoon reportedly asked the police officer in charge to cover up his mistake so that it wouldn’t be reported through news outlets to the public. Since then, Choi Jong Hoon has allegedly remained close friends with the police officer. The report further stated that Choi Jong Hoon also shared about the incident in the group chatroom that included Jung Joon Young and Seungri.

In response, the police announced that they have begun their investigation into the alleged connections between Choi Jong Hoon and high-ranked police officers.

Following the reports of the chatroom including Jung Joon Young and other male celebrities who engaged in the sharing of illegally taken videos, there were speculations that Choi Jong Hoon was one of the participants in the chatroom. In response, FNC Entertainment denied the singer’s involvement in the controversy and announced their plans to take legal action against rumors.

Korea Police Commissioner General Responds To Reports Of Corruption Related To Chatroom With Seungri And Jung Joon Young

Mar 13, 2019

On March 13, Min Gap Ryong, the Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency, held a press conference in response to lawyer Bang Jung Hyun revealing that there is suspicion of corruption by the police.

Min Gap Ryong shared that a certain individual in the chatroom mentioned a “police chief,” saying he “has my back.” However, there appears to be a possibility of the phrase used for “police chief” to be a typo and actually refer to the “Commissioner General of the police” or the “Public Prosecutor General,” as all three phrases are very similar in Korean and the latter two figures are of higher rank. The Commissioner General at the time that the messages were exchanged in July 2016 was not Min Gap Ryong but Kang Shin Myung, who previously held the position.

Min Gap Ryong commented, “I will check thoroughly to find out if there was an incident that the police was involved in at the time,” and added, “There is a specific individual who made this comment, but it is difficult to reveal details as the investigation is on-going.”

He also shared that a specialized team made up of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Provincial Special Detective Division, which is investigating the Burning Sun case, along with other top investigative teams including the Intellectual Crime Division, Cyber Security Division, and Narcotics Unit, will dive into this issue of potential corruption.

He continued, “If crimes are discovered in the process, they will be convicted thoroughly regardless of rank.”

Lawyer Who Reported Chatroom With Seungri And Jung Joon Young Reveals Possible Ties With Police

Lawyer Who Reported Chatroom With Seungri And Jung Joon Young Reveals Possible Ties With Police

Lawyer Who Reported Chatroom With Seungri And Jung Joon Young Reveals Possible Ties With Police

Mar 13, 2019

On March 13, lawyer Bang Jung Hyun appeared CBS Radio’s “Kim Hyun Jung’s News Show” and revealed new information about the recent controversies surrounding Seungri and Jung Joon Young.

Lawyer Bang Jung Hyun is the person who sent the KakaoTalk conversation data to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission on behalf of an original whistleblower who chose to remain anonymous.

He explained that he had received an email from the original whistleblower stating that they had gotten hold of data related to the people involved in the Burning Sun incident. They wanted to make the information public in order to seek justice, but they did not know how to and needed help.

He said it was his job to protect the identity of the original whistleblower and worried that if he sent the data to an investigative agency (such as the police), they may focus on finding out the identity of the whistleblower. That is why he decided to send it to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission instead.

Asked how lengthy the KakaoTalk conversation was, the lawyer replied that it amounted to tens of thousands of messages that were shared across eight months between 2015 and 2016.

He added that Jung Joon Young’s messages of hidden cameras were shared in several different chatrooms including the chatroom with Seungri where sexual escort services seemed to be discussed, one-on-one chatrooms, and other group chatrooms.

The lawyer revealed another reason for sending the data to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission instead of the police. After going through the data, he found several conversations suggesting ties with the police. Though he was vague so as to not reveal all of the information, he explained that the conversations contained several messages about certain high ranks. For example, when a situation comes up, someone would say, “I contacted [the high-ranking official]” or “I did [so-and-so] with [the high-ranking official] and resolved it.” There were business-related situations as well as other non-commercial situations. Someone also said, “So-and-so from the police called me to say happy birthday.”

“The person in the conversation appeared to be tied with the most influential head of the police, and that led to other ties with other police officers of lower ranks.” At the interviewer’s probing, the lawyer revealed that it seemed to be someone as high-ranking as the Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency, but he clarified that he was unsure of how close the relationship between those in the conversation and the police was.

The radio DJ asked, “Is it just one person who’s saying they resolved issues by talking to the police, or is it everyone?” and Bang Jung Hyun responded, “One person is saying they are the most closely tied, but the other people are also aware of this. [That one person] is related to Burning Sun.”

The interviewer then questioned whether there had been other unrevealed crimes committed in the chatrooms. The lawyer shared that there was, and that he had already reported to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission about it. He further explained, “As you may know, there are many cases that are being investigated in relation to Burning Sun. There’s another case that’s similar to one of those cases.”

The radio DJ asked if it was related to a club, but the lawyer did not clearly state whether it is a club or not. He said, “It is, however, related to one of those businesses [run by Seungri].” The DJ asked, “Another crime. Like illegal drugs or tax evasion? Or something else?” and the lawyer responded that it was a crime of a similar nature.

Initial Reporter Of Seungri And Jung Joon Young Case Reveals Her Investigation Process

Initial Reporter Of Seungri And Jung Joon Young Case Reveals Her Investigation Process

Initial Reporter Of Seungri And Jung Joon Young Case Reveals Her Investigation Process

Mar 13, 2019

On March 12, Kang Kyung Yoon, the reporter who released the initial reports on Kakaotalk chatrooms including Seungri and Jung Joon Young, participated in an interview to explain more in detail about the ongoing controversy.

Kang Kyung Yoon started the interview by explaining the steps she has taken so far. The reporter said, “I brought up the allegations of Seungri lobbying to investors by offering sexual favors as bribes last month. Since then, I reported on how the original text messages [that contained the evidence] were procured by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission and a chatroom including Seungri and other male celebrities that involved the sharing of hidden camera videos and photos.”

She continued, “I decided to report on the issue of [Seungri] providing sexual escort services when I first found out about an extravagant party in 2015 that is now known as the ‘Seung-tsby (Seungri + Gatsby) Party.’ This party, where [Seungri] invited and entertained various foreign investors, happened right before Seungri founded an establishment called Yuri Holdings in 2016.”

“I realized that the party was used as a tool for advancing [Seungri’s] business,” continued Kang Kyung Yoon. “In addition, there were some parts about the party that I was able to raise questions about [Seungri] ordering sexual escort services in the Kakaotalk chatroom.”

Kang Kyung Yoon also addressed another group chatroom, in which they found several instances of the participants sharing secretly taken videos of sexual activity with women. The reporter explained, “I started receiving tips about [the chatroom] around two years ago. There was also a testimony from a female celebrity who said she randomly witnessed the chatroom.”

“However,” she continued, “It was only recently that I got to witness the chatroom myself through a source. After looking through the chatroom, I was able to confirm all the research from before.”

Kang Kyung Yoon said that as a woman, she felt the need to report and research into the matter. The reporter stated, “The fact that these people invited young female university students in their 20s and rookie celebrities to drink with them, only to use them to have one-night stands and to secretly film them, is shocking to me.”

The reporter also revealed that she got to meet the victims of the hidden camera videos and photos. Kang Kyung Yoon said, “They were surprisingly very young women in their 20s. Most of all, I was shocked to see that the majority were not even aware that they were filmed, and that the videos were being shared in a group chatroom including people they have never even met before. They told me that they were greatly shocked, afraid, unsure of what to do, and asked me to help them.”

According to Kang Kyung Yoon, the victims are contemplating whether to take legal action or to stay silent and protect their identities. The reporter added, “While they are extremely enraged and wanting to take strong legal action, they also worried that they would have to live with a scarlet letter labelling them as victims of hidden camera videos.

“I found it the most shocking that these men weren’t filming spontaneously or with the other party’s consent, but they were doing it as part of a game,” continued Kang Kyung Yoon. “For example, if they saw a rookie female celebrity on television or from each other’s agencies, they would say things like, ‘She is very pretty, you should bring her out to drink with us.'”

Kang Kyung Yoon also mentioned that she is currently receiving many complaints from Seungri’s fans. She said, “I understand that [fans] are sending me emails with complaints because they cherish and love Seungri. However, I also acknowledge that this is an issue that is present in this society that we live in. The victims are still here, and so is their pain from this incident. I hope that [fans] also consider that part of the situation too.”

Kang Kyung Yoon concluded by revealing her plans for further reports. The reporter began, “Many people have the wrong idea that these reports are evading the main issue of the club Burning Sun. The core issue of the controversy with Burning Sun includes serious matters such as drugs, hidden camera, connections to the police, and others. Of course, I believe that we need to continue our research into this.”

The reporter added, “On top of that, I believe that the incident of male celebrities secretly filming women is a huge problem that has resulted from the fact that many women are treated as sexual tools and some people’s distorted perception of sex that came from the sexualization of women, as well as corrupted use of power in the entertainment industry.”

Kang Kyung Yoon concluded, “Nowadays, many Hallyu celebrities are gaining more power, fame, and popularity. As a result, there are also those who abuse the things they are given as celebrities. I think that we came to forgive and neglect on surveillance and criticism just because they are Hallyu stars.”

Watch the interview with reporter Kang Kyung Yoon below:

Following the revelation of their chatrooms, Seungri was booked on charges of providing sexual escort services to business investors, and Jung Joon Young on spreading hidden camera footage. They are also banned from leaving the country, as they will be investigated by the police as suspects on March 14.

Kang Daniel’s Lawyer Clarifies That He Has No Connection To Seungri

Mar 11, 2019

Lawyer Seon Jong Moon has denied Kang Daniel’s connection to BIGBANG’s Seungri and his alleged sex bribery scandal.

On the March 11 broadcast of MBC’s “Section TV,” Kang Daniel’s lawyer appeared on the program to deliver updates on the singer and his dispute with his agency LM Entertainment.

During the show, Seon Jong Moon clarified Kang Daniel and Seungri’s relationship, saying, “It’s not true at all. [Kang Daniel] has not met Seungri privately, and he has never been to the club Burning Sun.”

Previously, it was reported that Kang Daniel was backed by a woman in her 40s from Hong Kong. The woman was accused of being the same wealthy Taiwanese woman who heavily invested in Burning Sun.

He continued, “There have been about two Wanna One concerts, and Seungri merely attended as a [senior artist]. We’re currently checking the contents of the rumors, and we will take legal actions after making necessary arrangements.”

Seon Jong Moon finally stated, “We are doing the best of our abilities in order for Kang Daniel to resume his regular entertainment activities.”
