After going through the necessary information, Joo Won also shared stories of his work as an assistant instructor in his division. He smiled as he said, “Because I enlisted at quite a late age, a lot of recruits ask for me when they request a counseling session. They open up to me about their hardships and difficulties, and they’re able to then go on and complete their training safely. I always feel proud when they call me up later to let me know they’re doing well in their divisions.”

Joo Won also revealed that one of his most memorable trainees was none other than G-Dragon, who enlisted in February. The BIGBANG member underwent basic training at the 3rd Infantry Division, widely known as the “White Skull” or skeleton unit, which is also where Joo Won is carrying out his military service. Joo Won stated, “Recently, Kwon Ji Yong [G-Dragon’s real name] trained with us as a recruit. He was very hardworking. Even from far away, you got the feeling that he got along with everyone and was working hard. He was a very memorable recruit.”

Finally, Joo Won greeted his fans and thanked them for their support while he is serving in the military. The actor enlisted in May 2017 and is currently serving as an assistant instructor. He will be discharged in February 2019.

On the April 7 broadcast, all 11 members of Wanna One appeared as guests. Lee Dae Hwi said he could try to imitate Lee Sang Min‘s famous “crying rap.” After Lee Sang Min showed the original version, Lee Dae Hwi followed with his imitation.

The variety show members laughed and commented that his rap reminded them of actor Park Young Gyu instead and told Lee Dae Hwi to say that he can imitate Park Young Gyu from now on.

Kim Jae Hwan then confidently stated, “I can do a vocal imitation of BIGBANG’s G-Dragon,” and sang a line from BIGBANG’s “Last Dance.” After listening, Kang Daniel and other members laughed and asked, “Are you a grandpa?”Kim Jae Hwan protested, “That was just me warming up,” and tried again by singing a line from G-Dragon’s “Untitled, 2014.” This time, people reacted with comments that he sounded more like the singer Cho Yong Pil.

The Wanna One member then treated everyone to a performance of him singing while playing the guitar. He teased, “A special instrument will appear in the middle” and sang an acoustic version of Sunmi’s “Gashina.”

Ong Seong Woo appeared in the middle of the song with his vocal imitation of the Korean fiddle. After the performance, he joked, “I always carry the Korean fiddle with me in my mouth.”

G-Dragon Military Service Update: BIGBANG Member To Be Transferred Soon, Likely To Return To K-pop Scene In November 2019

According to reports, the 29-year-old idol attended his military training completion ceremony on Thursday, April 5. Photo by Chung Sung-Jun/Getty Images

After five weeks of training, BIGBANG’s G-Dragon finished his basic military training before he starts his assignment as a soldier. In fact, according to reports, the 29-year-old idol attended his military training completion ceremony on Thursday, April 5.

According to Metro, G-Dragon finished his military training with excellence as he showed extraordinary physical fitness and mental stamina. Hence, he is said to be named as an army instructor assistant for the military’s third infantry division unit, also called the White Skull division.

However, the Korean military denied the claim that G-Dragon was assigned as a military instruction assistant in his unit. The military’s press office said in a statement that the BIGBANG member was never considered to be the third infantry division’s “instruction assistant.” “His final assignment is as a regular soldier in a unit under the 3rd Infantry Division,” it added.

The Korean military press office then confirmed G-Dragon indeed finished his military training and completion ceremony. So, he is set to be transferred on Friday, April 6.

Meanwhile, ever since G-Dragon got enlisted in the military on February 27, it looks like the BIGBANG member’s fans are having a hard time accepting his absence. Hence, to stay in touch with their favorite South Korean pop star, All Kpop reported his supporters flooded his unit with tons of fan mail.

The emails coming were so uncontrollable that YG Entertainment started to beg G-Dragon’s fans to stop sending him letters. The music label revealed the high volume of posts he has been receiving is also giving him difficulty. So, they are asking everyone to avoid sending him e-mails.

The e-mails sent to G-Dragon have to be printed on paper so he can read them. When the unit has to give the BIGBANG member his letters, it often runs out of ink and A4 paper because of the massive influx. G-Dragon felt sorry for the other soldiers as they are not receiving their own correspondence because of him.

G-Dragon is set to be out from his military unit on November 26, 2019.

WINNER Comments On YG Family And The Success Of Labelmates BIGBANG And iKON

WINNER spoke about fellow YG Entertainment male idol groups BIGBANG and iKON in a recent interview with Joy News 24.

The group’s leader Kang Seung Yoon said, “There is a lot of pressure. BIGBANG enlisted in the military and instead of filling in their place, I think that we shouldn’t cause trouble on the path they’ve paved. There are many singers who grow without being happy or sad about results, who don’t reach massive success, or get No. 1. I think it’s the most important to slowly expand our territory and mature our music. BIGBANG received lots of love because they didn’t stay in one place and grew. They won through their music, so I want to follow their path. Our goal is to show growth.”

Song Mino added, “Instead of the pressure of filling in BIGBANG’s vacancy, we want to propel the good energy of YG Family. iKON and BIGBANG succeeded. When ‘Really Really’ did well, iKON congratulated us and I was happy that iKON recently did well. B.I said, ‘This album’s energy is good,’ and we’re helping each other that way.”

WINNER revealed that they dreamed of communicating with their fans while working on their latest album “EVERYD4Y.” Yang Hyun Suk also promised WINNER fans that he’ll provide more opportunities for the fans to group.

The group commented, “We made this album with the spirit that we’ll work hard during promotions, and that we’ll work hard every day. We’re preparing many things such as fan meetings and concerts. We think there will be more opportunities to meet our fans this time than the total of all of our promotions till now. We want to get closer while promoting so that the members and fans can be happy.”

WINNER’s second album “EVERYD4Y” including title track “Everyday” was released on April 4, and achieved the group’s first certified all-kill.

WINNER “BIGBANG Focused on the Music, and We’ll Follow That Path” (INTERVIEW)

[조이뉴스24 이미영 기자] “We don’t want to be staying at the same place. It’s not fun making the same style of music just because it turned out well.”

4th year idol-group WINNER challenged on ‘broadening’ their musical spectrum without being stuck as the ‘emotional idols’. They agonized to create new and different music, which turned out to be the right decision. The group captured the ears of the public once again with the song ‘EVERYDAY’, starting out April with a happy mood.

Group WINNER released their 2nd official album ‘EVERYD4Y’ on April 4. The faces of members displayed thrill, excitement, and confidence while introducing their new album.

“It’s our full-length album in 4 years, that contains ourselves in the past 4 years. The album contains various tracks from songs created 4 years ago, to songs created recently. It’s a collage of our past 4 years. I’m excited, yet nervous.” (YOON)

“At first, our president (YANG HYUN SUK) was skeptical of releasing a full-length album. He said that would be meaningless if we have songs without great quality. We recorded even in the weekends, and worked on 2 to 3 songs in a week. After listening to the songs, he said they’re good enough to be released as an album. It was physically tiresome working on two to three songs a week, but we wanted to gift our fans with a new album. I would like to pat our members for working so hard.” (HOONY)

The album contains a total of 12 tracks, and is composed of various genres including Hip-hop, Trap, Acoustic, Ballad, and Pop. The members wrote the melodies and lyrics themselves, establishing their position as a producing group. The members stated, “We worked on a lot of songs. We couldn’t even count how many”, while explaining their hard work. The even called the album as ‘my child’, which proves their affections towards the project.

Above all, WINNER’s musical transformation caught the attention of listeners. The title song ‘EVERYDAY’ is harmoniously composed of sophisticated Pop and trendy Trap elements. The lyrics that wittily states an ‘every day with the one you love’ grabs the attention of listeners.

WINNER stated, “We put songs in genres we didn’t try out in our first album. People will feel our growth when they listen to emotional music, while feeling our new challenge while listening to other types”. They explained, “We gain ideas and inspirations from trendy and easy music, which naturally made us transform this way”.

With mega-hits including ‘REALLY REALLY’ released last year on April and ‘LOVE ME LOVE ME’, WINNER established their position as a group one can ‘trust and listen to’. The members put their burden on results down while creating the album. The goal of the album was not to achieve commercial success, but to let people hear WINNER’s music.

“It would be a lie if I say I don’t expect for anything. I hope people have been waiting for our music, since we received a lot of love and support last year. It’s hard to determine something with chart rankings these days, and a lot of influential artists make comeback in the Spring. We put down our burden and decided to put meaning on presenting our full-length album in 4 years.” (YOON)

“We just have to empty our minds and wait. It’s always suffering while checking out the chart. One hour feels like a year when checking reactions and chart rankings. I’m trying to control my mind, to not get stressed”.

Despite the ‘letting it go’ attitude by members of WINNER, the reactions by the public on good music are heated. After the interview, WINNER expressed their gratitude towards their fans by stating “We feel great. We feel grateful that our new challenge on music, and the music we made for the fans were placed at no. 1. We’re happy”, through YG Entertainment.

WINNER became YG Entertainment’s ‘representative group’ in place of BIGBANG who are currently vacant due to serving military duties. YG’s other boy-group iKON is a competitor in good faith and companions, who started out through the same program.

“We feel responsibility. Rather than filling in the gap of BIGBANG’s vacancy, we feel like we shouldn’t mess up the path they paved throughout the years. A lot of artists grow without being no. 1, aiming for a mega-hit and alternating through joy and grief on the results. We feel it’s important to broaden our spectrum and present matured music. The reason why BIGBANG was popular is because they grew, and focused on the music. We would like to walk the same path. It’s our goal to show and prove our growth to the public.” (YOON)

“Rather than the burden of having to fill up BIGBANG’s gap, we want to continue to good spirit of YG Family. iKON and BIGBANG all turned out well. When ‘REALLY REALLY’ became a hit, iKON congratulated us, and we did the same for iKON. B.I told us our album feels good. We’re supporting each other like that.” (MINO)

Like the title of their new album, ‘EVERYD4Y’, WINNER hoped to communicate with the fans often while working on the album. Representative producer YANG HYUN SUK also promised the fans to create more opportunities for the fans to communicate with WINNER through his social media.

“The album contains our spirit to work hard, every day. We’re preparing for a lot of events, including fan-meetings and concerts. I think we’ll have more opportunities to meet the fans through this album than we did for the past 4 years (laughs). We hope us members will stay happy and close with the fans, during promotional activities for the new album.” (WINNER)

Idol army life: BIGBANG’s T.O.P cleared in Flower Road issue plus updates on G-Dragon

The idols are all serving their mandatory military service (Picture: Facebook/Instagram) K-pop idols T.O.P and G-Dragon of BIGBANG and actor Seulong of boy band 2AM are currently serving their mandatory Korean military service. Recently, T.O.P was investigated for violating military regulations when BIGBANG’s song Flower Road was released on 13 March while he is serving as a public service worker.

He enlisted in February last year but his military service as a conscripted policeman was suspended in June when he was charged with smoking marijuana at his home. The following month, a Seoul court convicted him for marijuana use and sentenced him to 10 months in prison suspended for two years together with a fine of 12,000 won (£8). He resumed his military service last January as a public service worker and will be out by June next year. When the issue about the Flower Road song came out, YG Entertainment explained that the song ‘was recorded two years ago while working on the MADE album’.

T.O.P was accused of engaging in personal business with the release of the song. Korean media reported that the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) has cleared him of the suspicion and it ruled that he did not violate any rule.

Meanwhile, fellow BIGBANG member G-Dragon, who enlisted last February 27, has finished his five weeks of basic military training and he will serve as an active duty soldier.

It was reported that he was selected as an army instructor’s assistant following his military training but the MMA has denied it.

[Oh!SSEN FOCUS] ‘YG’s 3 Brothers’ BIGBANG·WINNER·iKON Take Over Music Charts

[OSEN=김은애 기자] YG Entertainment took over music charts in the first half of 2018. WINNER dominated no. 1 spots in music charts, following iKON and BIGBANG.

On April 5, YANG HYUN SUK wrote on his social media, “#BIGBANG #WINNER #iKON #YG_3_Brothers#BIGBANG_24DAYS_WINNER_2DAYS_iKON71DAYS #YG”.

Along with the captions, he uploaded a screenshot photo of a music chart from Melon. On Melon, which is Korea’s largest music streaming platform, WINNER’s ‘EVERYDAY’ was placed at no. 1, BIGBANG’s ‘FLOWER ROAD’ at no. 3, and iKON’s ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ at no. 5. YG’s representative boy-groups took over the top ranks on the same chart.

The first half of 2018 in the K-Pop scene has been dominated by boy-groups from YG. iKON set a milestone with the title song ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ from their 2nd official album ‘RETURN’, released on January 25. ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ not only topped real-time, daily, weekly, and monthly charts, but also wrote a new record by maintaining its no. 1 position for 43 days. Furthermore, the song is still remaining its top rank for 71 days in various music charts.

The next runners were BIGBANG. Starting with G-DRAGON on February, TAEYANG and DAESUNG both enlisted in the army to serve military duties, creating a vacancy in team activities. For the fans that will miss BIGBANG during their vacancy, BIGBANG gifted them with the song ‘FLOWER ROAD’. The group achieved an ‘all-kill’ with the song ‘FLOWER ROAD’ which was a release featuring all members of BIGBANG in 1 year and 3 months, and is remaining at the top ranks although it’s been 24 days since the song’s release.

Now it is time for WINNER. WINNER received an explosive response as they released their 2nd official album ‘EVERYD4Y’ on April 4. The title song ‘EVERYDAY’ achieved an ‘all-kill’ in music charts, and was placed at no. 1 on real-time searched keywords in major portal sites. Furthermore, all 12 tracks from the album and their song ‘REALLY REALLY’ released last year on April are at the charts, showing great performances. The song also received global popularity, by topping iTunes Charts in 18 different countries.

The success in music charts by artists from YG is more meaningful since all the songs were created by the members. From iKON’s ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ to BIGBANG’s ‘FLOWER ROAD’ and WINNER’s ‘EVERYDAY’, all songs were written and composed by the members. The groups were acknowledged in both popularity and musicality, holding up to YG’s reputation.

YANG HYUN SUK also played a huge role in YG’s success. YANG HYUN SUK participated in the mix of all albums himself, adding completion to the final product. He even got a cervical disk problem while working on the mix for WINNER’s new album. However, YANG HYUN SUK’s insight on music is well known as the phrase states, ‘You trust and listen to music from YG’. Without his strict inspections, YG would not have been able to achieve such great success.

YG Entertainment had a good start in early 2018 and is currently continuing their no. 1 march. YG’s girl-group BLACKPINK is also preparing to make comeback. People are eager to see all groups from YG including BIGBANG, WINNER, iKON, and BLACKPINK dominate the top ranks in music charts on May.

BIGBANG’s T.O.P Reported To Have Not Violated Military Rules With “Flower Road” Release

Last month, it was reported that BIGBANG’s T.O.P was being investigated by the Seoul Regional Military Manpower Administration on whether the release of “Flower Road” was a violation of a military rule that prohibits soldiers from engaging in additional business.

See Also: YG Responds To Reports About T.O.P Being Investigated For BIGBANG’s “Flower Road” Release

On April 5, a source from the Yongsan District Office told a reporter for CBS NoCut News that after carrying out the investigation, it was clarified that T.O.P did not violate any military rules.

Because “Flower Road” was recorded before T.O.P had begun his military service as a public service worker and because there had been no promotional activities for the track, the Military Manpower Administration concluded that the song release is not considered a violation of military rules.

Meanwhile, “Flower Road” recently achieved a triple crown on Gaon music charts.
