On June 7, Seungri shared a video clip from the final recording session of his first solo studio album on Instagram. He also revealed that it was his first time working alone with the famous YG Entertainment producer Teddy, writing, “My last recording,” “Finished with album preparations,” and “My first solo collaboration with Teddy hyung…”

The brief black-and-white clip shows Seungri having a blast with several of his colleagues from “The Black Label,” Teddy’s sub-label under YG Entertainment.

Although the video provides a glimpse of Seungri dancing along to his new music, the BIGBANG member chose to tease his fans by leaving the video mute and keeping us guessing about what lies in store for his first full-length solo album.

YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun Suk previously stated that Seungri’s first solo studio album is scheduled to be released in early July. Seungri also announced earlier this week that he would be holding his first-ever solo concert in Korea this August.

During the show, he talked a little about his upcoming solo album and answered questions sent in by listeners. When asked about the secret to BIGBANG’s teamwork, he joked, “You don’t know what you’re talking about when you say that BIGBANG’s teamwork is good. That BIGBANG has lasted for 13 years isn’t because our teamwork is good, but because we make it look good even when it isn’t.”

He added, more seriously, “All of us have a strong independent streak. When you watch us perform, Taeyang runs all the way to the end of the stage and confuses everyone. But people think that’s all planned out in advance. There are times when the members surprise me as well. The most important thing is to communicate with your teammates.”

He had mentioned earlier that thinking about his members affected his solo promotions, saying, “The solo album is important not just because it shows who I am but because I am carrying the name of BIGBANG. If I don’t do well, the other members in the army will curse me out, right? That’s why I have to do even better.”

Akdong Musician’s Lee Soo Hyun introduced Seungri as their agency’s busiest singer and Seungri replied, “I do not wait for work. I bring work. The reason why I came on today is because I spoke with the manager for the first time in a while and asked what Soo Hyun was up to. He said she’s a DJ and I couldn’t just sit still. I asked if I should send flowers and he said to appear on it, so I came. I’ll try to raise the trending search.”

On his upcoming solo album, Seungri said, “It will be released in the beginning of July. BLACKPINK’s album is finally coming on June 15. Will I hit a home run or a double play this year at YG? If I hit a double play, I won’t be able to release an album for a while. The album is 98 percent ready.”

The BIGBANG member also hinted at the album concept. He said, “They call me ‘Seung-stby,’ but if you listen to my unique energy, power, and music, then you’ll become energized. I think I’ll be able to give energy to many people. It’s full of songs that will help this hot summer burn up.”

He continued, “I want to work hard on my solo promotions so that fans won’t feel the vacancy of BIGBANG. I don’t know about my solo promotions, but I want to quickly do team promotions. But I’m still going to do well this time.”

After the two enjoyed a pool party, they went to have dinner together. Park Soo Hong was impressed by the fancy dinner and said to Seungri, “You’re really a celebrity.” Seungri replied, “If you’re having fun, I’m also having fun. You know Yang Hyun Suk, he was born in 1969. You don’t look like you were born in 1970. You look so much younger.”

Park Soo Hong then suggested, “I’ll take care of the money and the time, let’s hang out together.” Seungri agreed, saying, “Do you have a friend who’s my age? The trend is to have friends of all ages.”

After Park Soo Hong complimented Seungri that he had a lot to learn from him despite Seungri’s younger age, the two began to share honest stories about themselves. When Seungri asked Park Soo Hong what he got from his five years of clubbing, Park Soo Hong answered, “Fleeting relationships.”

Seungri revealed why he enjoyed spending time with foreign friends. He began, “Things like enjoying parties abroad and being with friends from abroad, I think it all began when BIGBANG started going on world tours.”

“Actually, they’re all my friends, but these friends don’t know how famous I am,” Seungri continued. “They just think I have a lot of followers on social media. They don’t even know how I got famous; they’re simply not interested. They’re busy living their own lives and enjoying themselves. While doing so they met me, and they liked how this person called Seungri has good energy, how he’s fun to be with, and that’s all.”

Seungri concluded, “So when I’m with my foreign friends like this, I really feel free. I feel myself become free.”

During the girl group’s appearance on the June 1 episode of the JTBC variety show, host Jung Hyung Don asked the members about their dance cover of BIGBANG’s “Bang Bang Bang.” Jimin explained that they had covered the song at their solo concert last year, and Jung Hyung Don requested that they perform the choreography one more time for the fans who had been unable to attend the concert.

The AOA members replied, “Actually, we’ve prepared a few [other] songs as well.” They explained that they had also practiced the choreography for Taemin’s “Move” and BTS’s “DNA,” but that Chanmi would be dancing to “DNA” by herself. Hyejeong explained, “She’ll be dancing on her own because [the choreography] was too hard for us,” with Seolhyun agreeing, “It was too difficult.”

However, the other five members still joined Chanmi in an entertaining attempt to recreate one of the key formations of the “DNA” choreography.
