BTS, G-Dragon, BIGBANG, And EXO Set New Record For K-Pop On Billboard’s World Albums 2017 Year-End Chart

Billboard has released its year-end charts for 2017, and there are more releases by Korean artists than ever before on this year’s World Albums chart!

BTS’s mini album “Love Yourself: Her” is the highest ranking K-pop release on the 2017 year-end World Albums chart at No. 2. This is the highest that a K-pop album has ever reached on the year-end chart, breaking the record set by their album “Wings” which came in at No. 6 last year.

“Love Yourself: Her” has spent eleven weeks on the weekly chart so far, and rose back up to No. 1 last week.

Meanwhile, G-Dragon’s solo album “Kwon Ji Yong” has grabbed the No. 5 spot on the World Albums year-end chart, after spending eleven weeks on the chart since its release in June.

BIGBANG’s 2016 album “MADE” follows at No. 6 with eleven weeks on the World Albums chart in 2017 (as well as a week on the chart that ended on December 31 of 2016).

EXO has come in at No. 7 with their fourth album “The War,” which spent ten weeks in total on the World Albums chart.

BTS’s 2016 album “Wings” ranks at No. 9 this year, while their repackaged album “You Never Walk Alone” comes in at No. 11. Both albums have not only had a long history on the chart (with “Wings” spending 25 weeks and “You Never Walk Alone” 24 weeks overall on the chart since their release), they also returned last week to take spots once again.

All together, 2017 has been the most successful year for K-pop on the World Albums year-end chart yet, with six albums in total charting in 2017. This beats the record set in 2016 when BTS and GOT7 charted with a combined three releases.

Billboard has also released the year’s World Albums Artists chart, which ranks artists based on how their work performed on the World Albums chart that year.

After taking the No. 5 spot last year on the 2016 year-end chart, BTS has come in at No. 1 for 2017. G-Dragon, BIGBANG, and EXO have also grabbed spots in the top 10.

G-Dragon,IU
G-Dragon returned the favor by performing with IU during her '2017 Palette' concert on December 9 at Jamsil Arena.

It was previously reported and confirmed that G-Dragon would be showing up as a guest for IU's concert. That day finally arrived as the two artists collaborated once more on the stage. With thousands in attendance, the fans couldn't help but express their excitement as G-Dragon made his long-awaited appearance to perform "Palette".

Afterward, IU thanked G-Dragon for making it to the concert despite the busy and hectic schedule. G-Dragon said, "I came because IU appeared as a guest for my first and last concerts during my tour. But because I haven't been on a stage as a guest too many times, I'm not really sure what the atmosphere is like here." IU joked, "My concert air/vibe is a little different from yours but despite that, the fans cheered for you so much unlike when I opened the concert." The two continued to converse with each other about gifting each other with special presents. G-Dragon's special guest-appearance concluded with him performing "Untitled" and "Crooked".

Min Hyo Rin Talks About Breakup Rumors, Marriage, And Being Taeyang’s Muse

Actress Min Hyo Rin recently opened up about her relationship with BIGBANG’s Taeyang in a recent interview.

The celebrity couple has been dating publicly since 2015, and Taeyang spoke about their relationship at a press conference for his new album earlier this year. Acknowledging that many of his songs were written about her, the BIGBANG member had declared, “Min Hyo Rin is my greatest muse.”

When asked about his statement, Min Hyo Rin blushed and responded shyly, “I was surprised that he said that, but I think I was also grateful.”

She was also quick to refute the breakup rumors that circled after the release of Taeyang’s “Darling.” The actress, who admitted that she knew she was the inspiration for “Eyes, Nose, Lips,” suggested that the rumors had arisen because “Darling” was a song about a breakup.

“I heard the rumors as well,” the actress remarked. “I was surprised, because we never broke up. I think a lot of those kinds of stories were popping up because of the lyrics [of ‘Darling’].”

Min Hyo Rin revealed how despite having gone public with their romance, she still feels uneasy discussing her relationship. “I would be more comfortable talking about it if my boyfriend were a non-celebrity or an actor,” she commented. “However, because he’s an idol, and because there are other group members [to consider], I think I can’t help but be more careful.”

Nonetheless, she did share that Taeyang was the person she turned to when she faced concerns about her acting career. When asked whom she leaned on during hard times, she replied, “Since I have a boyfriend who is in a similar line of work, I inevitably end up talking to him a lot.”

The actress, who is now 31 years old, also revealed that she recently began to think about marriage. “I think when you enter your thirties, you start to think about marriage more,” Min Hyo Rin said. She added with a laugh, “I suppose I’ll get married once I’m ready.”

Watch: BIGBANG’s Taeyang Participates In A Street Dance Battle While Hiding His Identity

BIGBANG’s Taeyang made jaws drop with his epic moves during a street dance battle with other civilians who had no idea who he was due to his cover-up.

On the December 8 episode of “Livin’ The Double Life,” Taeyang, YG producer Kush, and YG staff member Jae Wook went on a trip to Busan together. They dropped by Bupyeong Market (also known as Tin Can Market), where many people recognized Taeyang, even the elders. Surprised at first, Taeyang commented, “I guess I am famous.”

Later on, the three of them came upon a street dance battle in Busan. Because he was covered in a mask and hat, no one recognized Taeyang. Jae Wook and Kush persuaded Taeyang to join the dance battle. Taeyang started to move to the beat as he searched for the right time to enter. At last, the right moment came, and he impressed the dancers on the scene with his smooth moves. Everyone started to wonder who this magnificent dancer was. However, Taeyang never revealed his identity.

Taeyang commented, “To be honest, I had a lot of thoughts in my mind after that. During the dance battle, I was able to relive the feelings I had before I debuted when I enjoyed music and danced without caring about who I am. I wanted to go back to those times. I didn’t think that I absolutely have to go back, but just that it’d be nice to.”
