Taeyang Vows BIGBANG’s 10th Anniversary Concert Will Be ‘Epic Daylong Festival’ For The Fans

BIGBANG have had a long love affair with their fans that surpasses the standard public hysteria that comes with being in a K-pop boy band.
Now, with the future of the band uncertain as the members must complete their mandatory military service, the annual BIGBANG anniversary concert has taken on a greater significance.
At the final concert of the group’s blockbuster 32-city MADE world tour in Seoul, South Korea on Sunday, the members confirmed that not only would they be holding the performance but promised that this year, it would be something special.
“Before the concert, we had a meeting with YG staff members,” BIGBANG member Seungri told the crowd, according to the Korean news website Soompi.
“We’re going to hold a BIGBANG 10th anniversary concert this summer, here in Korea in an outdoor venue.”
According to the group’s vocalist Taeyang, the event will be more than just another BIGBANG set.
“In return for ten years of your love, we plan to make the 10th anniversary concert an epic day-long festival,” he said.
While frontman G-Dragon reflected on the veteran Hallyu act’s chart-topping run.
“During the past 10 years, there haven’t been only good days,” the Korean icon told the audience.
“There were bad days too, but I think we’re able to be here today in this spot because you were all there for us during those times, looking out for us and loving us.”
In an interview last month for the Korean publication Star news, G-Dragon had confessed that he and his bandmates weren’t particularly comfortable pondering the end of the group.
“Actually, we try not to talk about our future,” the group’s frontman G-Dragon told.
“We’re busy enjoying every second of the time left for us. One thing that is certain though, is that our future will be greater than the present. We believe that tomorrow will be better than today and we act with such a belief.”
All eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35 currently must enroll for between 21 and 24 months of army service in South Korea (the length of mandatory enrollment changes by several months depending on which branch of the military that they serve in), due to the country’s decades-long conflict with the North.
Band member Daesung appeared to hint at a future for the band beyond the group’s time spent serving their country.
“It is true that there won’t be that many opportunities to stand on the stage as a complete team before we go to serve our military service,” he said.
“That is why every performance of us these days is so meaningful and precious. We’ll of course continue to perform our music after we come back from the army, but we have no specific plans yet.”

WWD: G-Dragon talking about year long tour and new album…

Karl Lagerfeld, Jefferson Hack Celebrate Another Magazine 15th Anniversary

HAVING HIS CAKE: Worlds collided at 31 Rue Cambon on Tuesday night, when Karl Lagerfeld opened Chanel’s haute couture salons and Coco Chanel’s historic apartment to a crowd of revelers, including Kendall Jenner, G-Dragon, Pharrell Williams, Bella Hadid, Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis, Riccardo Tisci, Clare Waight Keller and Rick Owens.
“They’re all in a good mood,” said Jefferson Hack, publisher of Another magazine. He was speaking at the cocktail Chanel cohosted with the publication to celebrate Another’s 15th anniversary and the cover Karl Lagerfeld lensed for its limited-edition birthday issue.
Hudson Kroenig was flanked by his godfather Lagerfeld on one side and Princess Caroline of Hanover and Hack on the other while blowing out candles on a vertiginous cake. The seven-year-old son of Lagerfeld’s muse Brad Kroenig later showed off his dance moves.
“He’s good,” praised Williams.
The party also drew guests including Caroline de Maigret, Jamie Bochert, Anja Rubik and Stella Tennant. Willow Smith, the young singer, songwriter and actress who a few hours earlier had been named a new face for Chanel, was absent.
Jenner, just out of the Off-White show with her mother Kris Jenner, struck a pose with G-Dragon.

“I have just arrived today for a shoot with Karl tomorrow for Vogue Korea,” said the South Korean pop star, who is still working on a new album. “I am waiting for the tour. It’s going to be yearlong.”
Who has more Instagram followers — Jenner or him?
“She does,” he answered.
The limited-edition anniversary issue has as its cover a striking 3-D portrait of Lagerfeld done in hologram. “On his broach, there’s a hologram of Choupette, so now we have a hologram within a hologram. It’s a holy-gram,” Hack said with a laugh, referring to the designer’s beloved cat. “The portrait was done with photographer Rob Munday. He used a similar technique with the Queen of England. He’s the most experienced in holographic photography.”
“The cover is super cool. It’s pop. There’s a Warhol-esque quality to it,” said Waight Keller, who remembers getting the first issue of Another. “Fifteen years have gone and I still have it.”
The designer praised the Chanel show. “I love the fact he’s doing very strong colors and the mix with denim,” she said. “I always love denim. And the little white lace dress at the end — very Chanel. That was beautiful.”
“Holograms remind me of the pornographic postcards in Italy — you know the women, dress-undress — they were beautiful,” Tisci noted.
Givenchy’s creative director plans to take a break in two weeks. “I am going to travel a little bit but Brazil first. I represent amfAR Brazil. It’s in May, but I am going [to organize for it now],” he said.
Owens won’t have any holiday until the summer. “I have already started the pre-collection,” he said. “But I spend the entire summer in Venice. I have a house there.”
Jamie Bochert, who walked the Chanel show in a dark gray suit with blue sleeves, has just recorded her first album. “I am gonna play live shows now in New York and L.A. I got to go back home first and rehearse with my band. It’s guitar and piano-driven, bluesy, psychedelic and dark, I guess. I am very inspired by Nick Cave,” she said.

BIGBANG glows in last world tour concert in Seoul

koreatimes.co.kr_16-01681.jpg

South Korean boy band BigBang awed some 13,000 fans in its final Seoul encore concert on Sunday, dropping the curtain on its "MADE" world tour that kicked off a year ago.

The five-member K-pop group held three days of concerts over the weekend, drawing about 39,000 fans to the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul's Olympic Park. This year marks BigBang's 10th anniversary, adding to the scale and fervor of the stage.

Overall, about 1.5 million concertgoers surged to see G-Dragon, Seungri, T.O. P, Taeyang and Daesung in the world tour that kicked off in April 2015 and spanned over 66 concerts in 32 cities in 13 countries around the world.

Throughout every measure of every song, the five-member K-pop band was greeted with "ddaechang," or sing-alongs, by the whole crowd. A throng of luminous sticks glowed in yellow, a color dedicated to the band.

"Fans' ddaechang makes us at home and comfortable," said Daesung, the youngest member of the band, during the concert.

G-Dragon, too, drove female fans into a wild burst of ecstatic screams, saying "During the (world) tour season, I've almost forgot. Korean girls are beautiful -- makes my heart flutter."

BigBang exploded onto the stage with sound of thundering motorcycles, starting off a medley of the band's greatest hits with "Bang Bang Bang. " The excitement peaked while the group performed some of last year's hits "Loser," "Bae Bae," and "Sober."

Each member rocked the stage with mastery of every move and gesture throughout the concert, flaunting 10 years of experience as one of the longest-surviving boy bands.

Ready-to-stun special effects, such as holograms, a laser show and flames generated by computer graphics, also set the stage ablaze. Other extravagant factors included lights and video works by world-class lighting and production designer LeRoy Bennett. Videographer Ed Burke, known as the video producer for world pop empress Beyonce, also took charge.

A giant "nude stage," or a 48-ton steel truss stage, floated above the audience, wowing the fans.

Outside the stadium was another throng of BigBang fans from here and overseas, who failed to purchase tickets. The tickets for the Seoul concert sold out in only 10 minutes.

Fans, some in hijabs, gathered along the outer wall of the stadium, still glad to be near their favorite stars. They held tight to their smartphones, to watch the concert that was aired live on the Naver broadcasting app "V."

Towards the end of the grand concert, BigBang made a surprise announcement that it will throw another concert this upcoming summer to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its debut.

This celebratory concert will take the form of a festival, staged in a wide, windy setting for a long time, according to the members.

Fans greeted this surprise announcement with another fervent rally of yellow glowsticks. (Yonhap)

BIGBANG's Seoul concert had it all

koreatimes.co.kr_16-01681.jpg

By Kim Jae-heun

K-pop idol band BIGBANG of YG Entertainment had it all from setting up a top-quality stage with excellent sound equipment, to hiring a world-class concert production crew for their last concert of "World Tour MADE" at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena, Seoul, Sunday. The show also celebrated the band's 10th anniversary of their debut in 2006.

The venue adopted a 48-ton nude stage, made of steel truss for the first time, to secure a clear view for every seat at the concert and installed the latest sound equipment "Adamson Energia System" to present the best sound quality for the audience. Renowned lighting and production designer Roy Bennet, Beyonce's videographer Ed Burke and music director Gil Smith II worked together to create BIGBANG's all-time best show.

On the last concert of their MADE tour, the K-pop band kicked off the show with their dance-pop and trap music hit, "Bang Bang Bang," off the latest album MADE released digitally last June. BIGBANG sang a total of 19 songs in the show including the members' solo tracks such as Seungri's "Strong Baby," T.O. P's "DOOM DADA" and Taeyang's "Eyes, Nose, Lips."

The five members of the group were enjoying the stage with their fans and dancing to the music with ease rather than perfectly showing off their original choreography _ which is often regarded as the BIGBANG style of performing as they always shout out "let's play" before walking out to the stage.

The show attracted a total audience of 39,000 during the three-day set in Seoul and some 13,000 fans attended on the concert on the last day holding banners spelling out: "BIGBANG is My Everything," creating a magnificent scene that impressed the musicians.

"Nothing would have been possible without our fans in Korea," said Seungri during the performance.

Taeyang said he visited many countries during the world tour and he missed Korean fans a lot.

The MADE concert also featured lighting shows with a total 106 large-output lasers that created 25,600 different colors, an enormous number comparing that to a normal concert use, which uses only eight lasers.

The concert held on the last day was video streamed live worldwide on both the Chinese portal site "Tencent" and Korea's No. 1 portal site Naver's "V App" mobile service, which recorded 3.62 million views alone.

BIGBANG's world tour concert kicked off last year, travelling to 13 countries including China, Japan, Thailand and Singapore, and performing at 32 cities. The K-pop group played to a total of 1.5 million fans in 66 shows.

BIGBANG's concert was particularly successful in Japan where the band played to 911,000 fans during 18 shows in four cities that set a new record for the largest audience at a foreign artist's concert. In China, 25,000 fans in 13 cities attended the band's concerts, which set a new record for a Korean pop group on the mainland.

The New York Times reported on BIGBANG's concert at the LA Staples Center saying that "A night with BigBang is a loud reminder that American exceptionalism is waning. " The show was ranked 10th for the year by Billboard.

“Tonight is the BIGBANG night”… 38 questions about “BIGBANG” tour

It’s a war for tickets.
So, the winner is?
Five
Four
Three
Two
One
?

Hwang Jeong-min!

Actor Hwang Jeong-Min was the unexpected winner, because he could make it to the BIGBANG concert for which even BIGBANG members themselves face difficulty in getting tickets. It seems to have been the right strategy for him to ask for a ticket to Gang Dong-Won.

And that smile like a sunshine. It was not something he showed even when his movie “Veteran” recorded 10 million viewers. His two hands moving are the proof that he is dancing in his mind.

On the contrary, one “BANG-girl” may have been shedding tears in her mind at the same time. She would have blamed her mouse or the Internet service at her home for failing to get the ticket.

Of course, there may be more than one or two girls like that. That is why “Dispatch” has prepared this! BIGBANG concert which is hard to go even if you are a millionaire! “Dispatch” is giving you this opportunity to see that concert.

Q. First, I wanna know the set-list of the “MADE” concert!

D : This is the sequence for the performances in the concert.  BANG BANG BANG?TONIGHT?STUPID LIAR?HARU HARU?LOSER?BLUE?BAD BOY?IF YOU?STRONG BABY?WINGS?DOOM DADA?EYE, NOSE, LIPS?ZUTTER?GOOD BOY?CROOKED?SOBER?BAE BAE?FANTASTIC BABY?WE LIKE 2 PARTY

Q. Oh, that hurts my heart again. What was the scale of the stage like?

D : Of course it was unprecedentedly large. For the first time for an indoor concert hall, a “nude stage” was installed. It was made of 48-ton-heavy steel truss.

Q. “Nude stage”?

D : Have you ever sat on a seat on the sides of a concert hall? It is hard to concert because of steel structures installed there. BIGBANG used hard steel truss instead of aluminum truss. That is why they did not need a specific subsidiary structure.

Q. That sounds like “God-BANG”. They took care of the visibility of fans seating on side seats.

D : That is not all. The concert was live-broadcasted on NAVER “V-APP”. Total six multi-cameras shot BIGBANG. That enabled fans to BIGBANG concert in their own homes.

Q. The sound was of course good, right?

D : The quality of the sound was one of the best. They applied “Adamson Energia System” which is usually used by world-famous pop stars. The system minimized imbalance in the sound by restricting frequency interference.

Q. Wow! That must have been really good to listen to!

D : Yes. It was like a sound shower, you know, at a concert of an idol group! The system also helped the members present the best live performances.

Q. How could it be possible?

D : World-class concert staff gathered to help BIGBANG’s concert. Roy Bennett who designed the lighting for Paul McCartney’s concert, as well as Ed Burke who has worked as Beyonce’s concert videographer took part in BIGBANG’s tour.

Q. Oh, I should have been there. How many fans were there?

D : Total 39,000 fans came to the three days of concert from March 4 to 6. That was 13,000 fans for a day. There were many fans who were waiting outside the concert hall, to get tickets that others cancelled.

Q. Were there any event for fans at the concert?

D : You know, BIGBANG fans made “BIGBANG” donations. Total 64 fan supporters donated 20 tons of rice, 10,000 packs of ramen, 4,250 pieces of coal briquettes, and 120kg of animal feed.

Q. That must have touched the members deeply!

D : Of course, SEUNGRI seemed to be the most touched. He left a message that BIGBANG will use those donations for meaningful purposes.

Q. Oh, I can’t wait any longer. Now, please talk about the concert itself.

D : First, a special video that was shot in the States was played. In the video, BIGBANG members were mafias. They engaged in a breath-taking chase against a female gangster, in which TAEYANG’s wild driving skills were displayed.

Q. What was the opening performance like?

D: The first song BIGBANG performed was “BANG BANG BANG”. Each one of the members appeared on the stage on individual lift. The scene of the members dancing in a line was breath-taking. The firework and firecrackers created eye-catching spectacles as well!

Q. Now I’m curious about what they said at the beginning. What was the first word that BIGBANG said to fans?

D : GD / (Totally excited) Hi, how have you been? BIGBANG has come back. It is the last day of our world tour and how are you feeling now? Please enjoy our concert until the very end!

SEUNGRI / (In dialect) How have you been everyone? How are you? Didn’t you miss me? Are you ready to enjoy today? Are you ready?

T.O.P/ (Most serious) Hi, nice to see you. It rained yesterday, but it’s sunny today. Welcome to “MADE” concert. Please enjoy today!

DAESUNG / (like a pterosaurs) Hi, long time no see. This is DAESUNG. It’s our final concert today. I really thank you and let’s play hard with us tonight!

TAEYANG / (playful Young-Bae Ver.) I love you. It’s the last day today, as you know. Are you ready to play? Are you ready to enjoy all together? Scream~

Q. I guess BIGBANG performed a parade of dance music after the opening.

D : That’s correct. BIGBANG performed “TONIGHT”, “STUPID LIAR” after “BANG BANG BANG”. In the performance of “TONIGHT”, fans could see GD’s guitar laser show.

Q. Oh, so BIGBANG began their concert by performing dance songs all the way?

D : No. you know, BIGBANG knows how to pull and push the audience. After the long dance opening, they sang “HARU HARU”. That was a ballad version which the members sang seating on chairs. That was the moment when the BIGBANG’s singing capabilities reached its climax.

Q. I bet fans really loved that sentimental ballad.

D : You’re right. All the fans were singing along “LOSER”, “BLUE”, “BAD BOY”, and “IF YOU”. BIGBANG presented a special mirror performance for “LOSER” and a remix version performance for “BLUE”.

Q. What songs in “MADE” album were performed?

D : “SOBER” and “BAE BAE”. DAESUNG staged his drum performance for “SOBER”. The other members danced to DAESUNG’s drum sound.

Q. What about my favorite song “BAE BAE”?

D : I finally understood the reason why the song is the favorite song for so many BIGBANG fans. I couldn’t take my eyes off for even a second. And you know, what was even better than that was…

Q. Even better?

D : Fans prepared a surprise event for BIGBANG. They waved placards that read “BIGBANG is my everything”. The scene of 13,000 fans waving the placards all together was quite spectacular.

Q. Oh, I’m also really curious about the performances of unit teams!

D :  First, the unit team of GD&T.O.P performed “ZUTTER”. They created a perfect harmony with fans. For example, when GD sang the part “this song is “, fans shouted “zutter”.

Q. And GD&TAEYANG sang “GOOD BOY”?

D : You’re good! “GOOD BOY” received the biggest acclamation from fans. Fans shouted “I am a good boy” and moved to the rhythm. You know, like singer, like fans. The fans knew how to move to the rhythm.

Q. Solo performances of BIGBANG members are really good, too, aren’t they?

D : SEUNGRI gave the first solo performance. He sang “STRONG BABY” to a band performance. Fans were all standing and clapping. DAESUNG sang “WINGS” on a lift.

Q. What about T.O.P, TAEYANG, and GD?

D : T.O.P performed “DOOM DADA”. You know, the lyrics of “DOOM DADA” are rather hard to understand, but fans sang along the song from the beginning to the end. TAEYANG’s performance was something unexpected. He sang “EYES, NOSE, LIPS” without any sound effect. That fully demonstrated TAEYANG’s heart.

Q. I’m actually a big fan of GD. I want a more detailed explanation about his performance.

D : GD worked really hard. As soon as he finished the unit performance, he performed his solo performance of “CROOKED”. Fans began to jump upon listening to the intro of the song. I though the seats might break down.

Meanwhile, GD came down to the audience seat to directly communicate with fans. After he sang the last verse “Crooked for tonight”, he closed his eyes and then swept his sweat. That showed he did his best for those performances.

Q. So, all those were live performances?

D. The first thing that comes across your mind when you think about BIGBANG is the electronic sound, isn’t it? BIGBANG’s voice harmonized with the live session sounded really new and fresh.

Q. What was the ending like? Where there any encore performance?

D : That last song was “FANTASTIC BABY”. Because it was the last one, all the fans stood up from their seats and enjoyed themselves. Even after the end of the song, no one left their seat.

Q. Of course! BIGBANG’s concert ain’t over till it’s over!

D : All of a sudden, fans began to sing “HEAVEN” all together. When they sang the part “I love you/ I remember you”, BIGBANG came upon the stage again.

Q. Oh, so that must have become the true final song. What was the encore song?

D : It was “WE LIKE 2 PARTY”. That was the climax of fan service. Notably, T.O.P took his mobile phone out to take photos of fans. GD made eye contacts with fans with tears in his eyes.

Q. What was “Dispatch”’s favorite performance?

D : “IF YOU” left the biggest impression. BIGBANG’s true vocal capabilities stood out in that performance. They sang so passionately with live band. Plus, the laser show in T.O.P’s solo performance was also captivating.

Q. Oh my god, you saw a laser show?

D : Usually, there are eight lasers in concert halls. However, BIGBANG installed as many as 106 large-output color lasers. That equipment could materialize as many as 25,600 colors. It was a truly fancy and colorful spectacle.

Q. I’m jealous but I want to hear more. What was BIGBANG’s service for fans was like?

D : That was one of the best as well. The moving stage played big role for that. BIGBANG moved from the edge of the stage to the center, riding on the moving stage. BIGBANG members cared for each and every audience all over the concert hall, not to dissatisfy any one of them.

Q. In fact, BIGBANG said before the concert that there will be less than one year left for them to perform as the complete team of BIGBANG.

D : Yes, that was why fans felt sadder than ever. Now, I think it’s time to unveil BIGBANG’s message for Korean fans.

Q. What? They left a special message for Korean fans?

D : SEUNGRI / All this could not have been possible if it were not you Korean fans.

TAEYANG / We’ve been to so many countries in our world tour. However, I missed Korean fans more than any fans in any other countries.

DAESUNG / Your singing is the world’s best. You always sing along our songs from the beginning to the end. You also sing in exact notes. Thank you so much. I feel like I’m home now.

T.O.P / When we stood on the stage of this hall for the first time, you were middle-school or high-school girls. Now, you’re all grown-up ladies. I’m really happy to see Korean fans after a long time.

GD / I’m so glad to see you again one year after the beginning of the tour. You know, Korean girls are the most beautiful in the world. My heart is pounding and I want to look good to you.

Q. I really envy “BANG-girls”!

D : Hahaha. I understand. The concert covered all the 10 years of BIGBANG’s artistic career for the 10 years since their debut.

Q. That’s right. This kind of world tour was possible because it was BIGBANG.

D : In fact, BIGBANG set unprecedented record from their very first world tour in 2012. BIGBANG drew 800,000 people in the tour in 12 countries, for the first time for a Korean singer.

Q. What about the “MADE” world tour’s record?

D : Total 66 concerts were held in 32 cities in 13 countries including North American countries, Oceanic countries, as well as China and Japan. About 1.5 million fans came to see BIGBANG’s world tour.

Q. I can’t believe it’s been already 10 years since BIGBANG’s debut. What were the members’ final remarks?

D : DAESUNG / It’s been 10 years since our debut. Thank you for being with us despite rush of new idol groups’ debuts for the past 10 years.

T.O.P / I’ve grown old myself and I became 30 this year. There have been some hard moments for the past 10 years, but I could keep carrying on thanks to your smiles.

GD / It’s been only 10 years. We have more days to come to be together. I hope we can sing here with big smiles, even when we grow older than now.

Q. I feel like crying. Do you have any other news?

D : I’m giving you one more opportunity! BIGBANG is planning for a large-scale outdoor concert in this summer. According to TAEYANG, there will be a BIGBANG festival held in celebration of their 10th anniversary. Don’t fail this time! Click like crazy!
