Seungri Reported To Enlist In March + Military Manpower Administration Responds

Feb 21, 2020

Seungri is reportedly enlisting in the military.

On February 21, Sports Seoul reported that Seungri is quietly preparing to enlist to the 6th Infantry Recruit Training Center on March 6. According to the source, Seungri has chosen to enlist in the military rather than defer his enlistment again following the draft notice issued by the Military Manpower Administration (hereafter MMA) to Seungri on February 4.

Following reports, a source from the MMA responded, “We cannot confirm the status of Seungri’s enlistment. We cannot reveal personal matters regarding military service.”

Recently, the MMA announced that they sent Seungri a military draft notice “for the purpose of fair imposition of the duty of military service following the conclusion of his investigations.” Seungri was previously scheduled to enlist as an active duty soldier on March 25, 2019, but his enlistment was postponed in order for him to participate in the ongoing police investigations.

If Seungri enlists in March, his trials will be held in the military courts.

On January 30, Seungri was indicted without detention for mediating prostitution services, habitual gambling, and violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act.

Seungri’s Enlistment Notice Issued By Military Manpower Administration

Feb 4, 2020

The Military Manpower Administration (hereafter MMA) has sent Seungri a military draft notice.

Last March, Seungri’s military enlistment had been postponed so that he could participate in the ongoing police investigations.

Almost a year later, on February 4, the MMA announced, “We have sent Seungri a draft notice for the purpose of fair imposition of the duty of military service following the conclusion of his investigations. We have continuously stated that we would ‘order his enlistment in the same procedure as per usual when the investigations end.’ This is because there is concern that prolonged trials in civilian courts will lead to complications in imposing the duty of military service on him. When Seungri enlists, jurisdiction over his trials will be transferred to the military courts in accordance with the related laws. We will actively cooperate with the prosecution to ensure a consistent and fair judgement, and we will make sure that the trials consider the rulings made by civilian courts regarding the related cases.”

The MMA states that Seungri’s enlistment date and army unit will not be revealed as they pertain to his personal information.

On January 30, Seungri was indicted without detention for mediating prostitution services, habitual gambling, and violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act.
