[Article] INSIDE G-DRAGON’S PEACEMINUSONE X NIKE AIR FORCE 1 LAUNCH EVENT

He donated a customized basketball court to his hometown of Seoul as part of the celebration.

Following the release of G-Dragon‘s bespoke Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise,” made in partnership with his clothing line PEACEMINUSONE, the K-pop star held a celebratory launch event at Seoul‘s Olympic Park. G-Dragon chose the location, which played a major role in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, for its longstanding representation of achieving peace and harmony through sports.

The singer and rapper added context to the Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise” with an installation of his personal artworks, including a custom basketball court heavily featuring PEACEMINUSONE’s daisy motif. As part of the celebration, a group of artists joined G-Dragon for a live painting performance exemplifying the brushwork hidden beneath the black exterior of his PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1. The star customized a series of blank, white AF1s on the spot, later gifting them to fans who were lucky enough to draw a winning ticket in a raffle-style contest.

Following the launch, G-Dragon and Nike announced that the customized basketball court would be donated to the city in an effort to inspire Seoul’s youth. Representing South Korea’s first art court, its sidelines are painted with the message “THE FLOWER IS THE YOUTH OF LIFE” and Nike’s “JUST DO IT” slogan is reimagined in Hangul on the hoop backboard.

PSY, Orange Caramel, BIGBANG, And BTS’s MVs Named On Billboard’s 100 Greatest MVs Of The 2010s List

Nov 26, 2019

Billboard’s staff have released their picks for the 100 Greatest Music Videos of the 2010s, with some popular K-pop MVs making the list!

PSY’s 2012 “Gangnam Style” MV grabs No. 7 on the list, with Billboard writing, “PSY’s video became a surprise global sensation that turned all eyes to South Korea’s music industry. Though it’s no longer the world’s most-viewed music video, the legacy of ‘Gangnam Style’ remains.”

Orange Caramel’s 2014 “My Copycat” MV takes No. 30, and Billboard writes, “Orange Caramel have never been bound by K-pop conventions, and ‘My Copycat’ represents the pinnacle of the trio’s out-of-the-box thinking with its interactive game.”

BIGBANG’s 2012 “Fantastic Baby” MV comes in the No. 46 spot. Billboard comments, “BIGBANG’s 2012 hit upped the ante for what it meant to be a K-pop music video in the 2010s: a bit over the top in its fashion choices, a bit of a criticism of society, and memorable with each and very shot offering up sensational optics.”

BTS’s 2016 “Blood, Sweat & Tears” MV takes No. 69, and Billboard writes, “Amid this lavish portrait of BTS at the height of their game, one thing is clear: the septet makes K-pop for the thinking fan.”

[Article] Take a Look Inside G-Dragon’s PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise” Launch

G-Dragon PEACEMINUSONE Nike Air Force 1 Para-Noise Launch seoul interview live art performance

The South Korean artist offers a deeper look into his “Para-Noise” concept.

To celebrate the release of the PEACEMINUSONE x Air Force 1 “Para-Noise,” G-Dragon and Nike held a launch event at the Olympic Park in Seoul, South Korea. The park which was a big part of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games was chosen by the BIGBANG leader, who was also born in 1988, as it served as a marker of peace and harmony through sport, regardless of ideology or race. For the commemorative event, the unifying space was transformed into a point of exploration for the concept of “Para-Noise,” a collective progressive outlook centered around creativity.

G-Dragon envisioned “Para-Noise” as a bridging of reality and the ideal through interaction with his PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 collaboration serving as the first step. Throughout the park, a large dome-shaped space was constructed to contain the singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, entrepreneur and fashion icon’s personal artworks and installations centered around the AF1’s connection to basketball. A standout display was a custom basketball court centered around the daisy motif prominently displayed on the PEACEMINUSONE x Nike collaboration.

Later in the day, a select group joined G-Dragon for a live art performance which revealed the haphazard paint design style that inspired the print hidden underneath the PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise.” Armed with various tubes of paint and spray cans, the charismatic artist went to work applying color to a pile of pure white AF1s, wall of deflated basketballs and stacks of shoeboxes. At the end of the performance, the newly decorated shoes were gifted to lucky fans through a draw.

Following the launch event, Nike and G-Dragon announced that the previously mentioned basketball court would be donated to the city. Serving as the first art court in South Korea, the unique intersection of art and sport was gifted to the public in hopes of inspiring youth to strive for greatness. The message is perfectly expressed by the “THE FLOWER IS THE YOUTH OF LIFE” message on sidelines and the Nike’s “JUST DO IT” slogan reimagined in Hangul.

After peeling back the layer of black coating.

With the highly-anticipated release of G-Dragon‘s PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise” upon us, we now have our best look yet at the personal artwork hidden underneath.

Although fans were initially enamored by the special black coating on the low cut AF1, as more people get their hands on the shoe we are now getting to see G-Dragon’s personal artwork emblazoned on the premium leather upper underneath. The hidden artwork is inspired by G-Dragon’s sense of optimism towards art as a form of self-expression for youth around the world to be unified through collective creativity.

Other decorations found on the upper include contrast white Swoosh branding, embroidered daisy motifs at the tongue, branded thick laces and removable custom pins in the upper eyelets. Elevating the shoe is a PEACEMINUSONE marked white lining, printed insoles and an AF1 sole unit dressed all over with haphazardly applied strokes of black paint. Additionally, the collaborative sneaker comes with custom packaging marked with the same daisy graffiti artwork hidden on the upper.

Priced at $200 USD, G-Dragon’s PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise” is set to release globally November 23.

BIGBANG’s G-Dragon Donates Special Basketball Court With Nike

Nov 24, 2019

BIGBANG’s G-Dragon made a meaningful donation!

On November 24, Nike stated, “Through a donation ceremony held on November 23, G-Dragon donated the nation’s first ‘art court’ containing the artwork in PARA-NOISE to the community at Olympic Park where there only used to be basketball hoops on asphalt. Not only does it intend to improve the sports environment, but it also contains the hopes to instigate change in all communities that enjoy sports and culture and the hopes that that they will unleash their own new inspiration.”

The activity can also be seen as a move to once again celebrate the symbolic meaning of the sneakers that have become the center of G-Dragon’s collaboration with Nike. Since its debut on the basketball court in 1982, the Air Force 1 has now become a source of inspiration in a wide range of fields encompassing art, music, design, and street culture.

In the circle that is located in the center of the court, there is a large daisy that symbolizes peace, and the sidelines have the phrase “THE FLOWER IS THE YOUTH OF LIFE” as well as the artwork G-Dragon incorporated into his sneakers. The backboards of the hoops add more energy to the court by having Nike’s “JUST DO IT” slogan written in Korean.

Through this contribution, G-Dragon commented, “I hope that everyone who enjoys sports and culture will gain more confidence and maximize their capacity. I wish that their culture and energy will be more widely shared and respected in the future.”
