G-Dragon Makes 1st Appearance Since Military Discharge; Talks About Nike Collaboration, What’s Changed Since His Enlistment, And More

Nov 23, 2019

After being discharged from the military last month, BIGBANG’s leader has returned to his activities!

On November 23 at 7 p.m. KST, G-Dragon officially kicked off his post-military activities by making a personal appearance at a private fashion event in Seoul, where he participated in a “Live Art Performance” with sports brand Nike.

G-Dragon’s fashion brand PEACEMINUSONE recently collaborated with Nike to recreate their iconic Air Force 1 sneakers into a new design called Air Force 1 PARA-NOISE (AF1 PARA-NOISE). The event in Seoul celebrated the release of these limited-edition sneakers, with invitations handed out through a lottery to only 800 lucky individuals.

The new sneakers garnered immense popularity immediately after their release, but only 818 pairs were initially made available to winners of the “Shock Draw” raffle. This led to long lines at the Nike store in Hongdae, Seoul, and online resales spiked to prices of nearly 10 million won (approximately $8,600).

G-Dragon showed up to the event in a black suit paired with sneakers, shyly introducing himself by saying, “I’m G-Dragon. I’m still not used to this, but I’m happy to see you all.”

As the event was held at the Peace Plaza in Seoul, G-Dragon drew attention to the daisy logo of PEACEMINUSONE. He explained, “Don’t daisies signify peace? Thinking of the flower, I thought [this venue] would match well.”

When asked what has changed since he first entered the military, he answered, “I got older. I’m not sure. I don’t know yet exactly what’s changed.” G-Dragon continued, “I think the atmosphere for making artwork and doing collaborations like this has changed.”

Regarding his collaboration with Nike, the singer shared, “Working with them was comfortable because they understood my thoughts. I hope people just wear these shoes really casually.” He also emphasized Nike’s slogan “Just do it” by adding, “Just do it! No matter what happens, I think it’s good to try doing something, anything at all.”

There were around 50 other celebrities in attendance at the event, including actor and G-Dragon’s new brother-in-law Kim Min Joon, iKON‘s Donghyuk, Kwon Hyun Bin, Bong Tae Gyu, Lee Sang Yoon, Lee Jin Wook, model Soo Joo, Girls’ Generation‘s Hyoyeon, Lee Chung Ah, Heize, and Giriboy.

With the powerful response to his new collaboration with Nike, G-Dragon has demonstrated his considerable influence and ability to impact the fashion scene. On top of receiving attention for the incredible popularity of his new sneakers and the frenzy over raffle tickets, his unique way of tying his shoes is also making waves.

Check out some of G-Dragon’s photos from the event below!

[Article] Stars Who Made It Big Immediately After Their Return From The Military This Year

Although we all expect (and dread) the enlistment of our favorite male celebrities, nothing makes the two-year wait any easier. However, it does help when they jump right back into work after they’re discharged, giving us the new content we’ve been anticipating.

Here are six male stars whose returns from the military this year were so exciting, we forgot they ever left!

Kang Ha Neul

Kang Ha Neul made his return to the industry with the drama “When the Camellia Blooms,” starring as Hwang Yong Shik, a police officer with undying love for Dong Baek (played by Gong Hyo Jin). His perfect fit for the role resonated with everyone and the drama repeatedly broke its own viewership ratings records! The recently concluded drama also achieved the highest miniseries record for the entire year and the busy actor has already decided on his next project.

Super Junior’s Kyuhyun

Following his discharge in May, the final Super Junior member to complete his military service made an extravagant solo return with “Aewol-ri.” He also joined the casts of “Salty Tour,” “Kang’s Kitchen 3,” as well as “New Journey to the West”! To top it all off, he joined his group in making their highly anticipated comeback with “SUPER Clap.” Kyuhyun’s next project will be a musical, marking his first in almost four years.

BIGBANG’s G-Dragon

Less than two weeks after his discharge in late October, Nike announced their collaboration with the BIGBANG member, marking G-Dragon’s first activity since returning. The limited collaboration was so successful that they resold for 10 million won (approximately $8,600). The shoes launch globally on November 23.

Ji Chang Wook

Ji Chang Wook returned from his military service to naturally melt our hearts with the drama, “Melting Me Softly.” In the recently concluded drama, he plays a variety show producer who participates in an experiment to be frozen for 24 hours, but instead wakes up 20 years later. Ji Chang Wook is also already in talks for his next drama, which is about Charles Darwin’s proposition that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors.

[Article] G-Dragon just got out of the army and he’s already teamed up with Nike

PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1

G-Dragon has teamed up with Nike to create an exclusive Air Force 1 sneakers—the PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 “Para-noise”—will be launched on November 23 exclusively at Dover Street Market Singapore.

“Ever since I came across hip-hop as a kid, AF1 has had a meaning greater than just shoes,” says G-Dragon. “I couldn’t afford them, so I would always pass the Nike store and admire them with my eyes and heart only. For those who loved hip-hop culture, oversized clothes, hats and matching coloured AF1s was the uniform.”

G-Dragon has made the Air Force 1 as part of his uniform when performing and it was a natural progression for him to create his own version with the sportswear giant. Amassing a huge fan base not just in South Korea but globally, G-Dragon was recently discharged from his compulsory military duties and was greeted by more than 3,000 fans during his return.

“Now that I am no longer a soldier, I will now return to my career as a singer and give my best efforts,” G-Dragon said while addressing his fans, as he was seen wiping away tears at one point.

Additional embellishments include a daisy embroidered on the tongue and removable custom pins in the upper eyelets. Channel A Reports BIGBANG’s Daesung Owes Additional Taxes On His Building

Nov 20, 2019

On November 20, Channel A reported updates on a building owned by BIGBANG’s Daesung.

According to the network, taxation authorities reportedly told Daesung he will have to pay 1.2 billion won (approximately $1 million) in taxes for his building operating illegal adult entertainment businesses without a permit. He also reportedly borrowed over 5.2 billion won (approximately $4.4 million) from a loan company while using his building as collateral.

This is an update to Channel A’s July exclusive report on the operation of illegal adult entertainment businesses inside Daesung’s building. After this story was reported on, a police task force began investigations and taxation authorities ordered Daesung to pay an additional local tax of 1.2 billion won. Because the acquisition and property taxes that Daesung paid after purchasing the building were under the basis that these businesses were ordinary restaurants and not entertainment establishments, Daesung was ordered to pay additional tax payments.

Adult entertainment establishments were reportedly being run on five floors in the building. As a result, Daesung was fined the maximum property tax of 1 billion won (approximately $854,876) which is 16 times the general tax rate and a maximum acquisition tax of 2 billion won (approximately $1.7 million) which is four times the general tax rate.

Daesung previously released a statement saying he had no knowledge of these illegal businesses, and the taxation authority stated that the imposition of additional taxes is not related to this. All of the entertainment businesses have closed down and are under construction for remodeling, and the Seoul Regional Tax Office is conducting a separate investigation for suspicion of consumption tax evasion.

Channel A also reported that Daesung has borrowed 5.2 billion won from a loan company while using his building as collateral. In 2017, Daesung purchased the building at the price of 31 billion won (approximately $26.5 million) and received a loan from the bank. The building was on the market for 40 billion won (approximately $34 million), but the term for his loan ended before the building was sold. The loan seems to have been taken out in order to repay the loan from the bank.

The police plans to summon Daesung, who was discharged from the military in October, to investigate if he aided and abetted while knowing about the illegal adult entertainment businesses.

[Article] G-Dragon’s PEACEMINUSONE Shows off Bedazzled Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise”

With the release of its Nike Air Force 1 “Para-Noise” set to go down this weekend, K-Pop superstar G-Dragon‘s PEACEMINUSONE has unveiled yet another collaborative AF1, one that features a completely-bedazzled upper. Just like the BIGBANG frontman himself, the design is loud, bold and impossible to ignore.

Although only a single image has been made available so far, it shows the entirety of the shoe’s top half covered in shimmering crystals — potentially provided by Swarovski, who’s also worked with Nike on Air Max 97s and Vapormax Flyknit 2.0s in years past. Swooshes are noticeably absent on both the lateral and medial sides, while a glistening daisy graphic appears on the black leather tongue and a large metallic silver heel clip is clamped onto the right shoe’s thick black flat laces. The sockliner and midsole are the only things that are simple here, as both are dressed in a crisp white.

It’s yet to be determined if these pop-star worthy kicks are a special bespoke edition created for G-Dragon himself, a limited friends-and-family release like the limited-to-88 yellow Swoosh-equipped iterations, or a design that’ll see a full retail release. Check out PEACEMINUSONE’s post above, and stay tuned for further information as it’s made available.
