During the press conference for JTBC and YG Entertainment’s upcoming idol survival show “MIXNINE,” BIGBANG’s Seungri revealed that he knew IU and Suzy would become successful.

“I promoted as a member of BIGBANG for 11 years. I don’t think there are many groups in the industry that promote this long,” he expressed.

“While I was in BIGBANG, I saw a lot of singers becoming stars. I saw IU and Suzy when they were trainees, and they both became stars like I had [expected]. I think it’s really possible to see star potential in people,” Seungri shared.

He continued, “While being a judge for ‘MIXNINE,’ I thought to myself several times, ‘Wow, this [participant] will become an amazing star one day.’ People haven’t watched the show yet so they’re probably not expecting much from a survival program, but they will definitely change their minds after watching the first episode. As a singer who has promoted for 11 years, I guarantee that you’ll all be seeing future stars in the episode airing this Sunday.”

During the press conference, Seungri also explained how YG Entertainment is different from other agencies.

Meanwhile, “MIXNINE” will be airing its first episode on October 29 at 4:50 p.m. KST.

On October 27, a press conference for JTBC’s new survival program “Mix 9” was held in Seoul. Since the program is planned and produced by YG Entertainment, all the people in the k-pop agency are putting much spirit into the program. Yang Hyun Suk, who visits various k-pop agencies throughout the country and finds and trains talented trainees in the program is the main judge of the program, while Zion.T, CL, Taeyang and Seungri will appear in the program too. And Teddy, a famous music producer of YG composed the program’s theme song.

Q. There so many audition or survival programs these days. What’s special about “Mix 9”?
YG: What’s special about “Mix 9” is that the program is planned and produced by YG. Not only Seungri and Zion.T, who attended today’s press conference, but also CL and Taeyang will appear in the program. And G-Dragon couldn’t take part in the recording of the program yet due to his tight tour schedule, I expect him to make an appearance in the program later. Han Dong Chul, the producer of the program is also looking forward to GD’s appearance in the program.

Q. Park Jin Young will also make an appearance in the program as a special judge.
YG: Yeah, YG’s trainees participate in the program too, and I thought it’s absurd I judge them. That’s why I asked Park Jin Young to appear in the program, but he treated my trainees so coldly. I told him I will retaliate, haha.

Q. What do you think is the biggest problem about the k-pop industry?
YG: There are so many similar idol groups. That’s why I never watch music chart shows these days. As the market grows, all the people do profitable music. Actually, BIGBANG hasn’t wanted to appear in music chart shows since a few years ago. It seemed the BIGBANG members felt uncomfortable there. All the idol groups dream of success, but only 5% of them can achieve success.

Q. What made you decided to plan and produce “Mix 9”?
YG: Since 10 years ago, I’ve wanted to add my touch to singers of other k-pop agencies. I wanted to realize such an idea through “Mix 9”. And you know, k-pop idols these days should appear in TV shows to become popular, but idols of small and medium k-pop agencies can’t even get a chance to make an appearance in a TV show. I thought a TV program like “Mix 9” can be helpful for them.

Q. Tell me about your standards for judging trainee.
YG: When I was a judge of “Kpop Star”, I had to be very careful because all the participants were young amateurs and the program was broadcast on the public channel. And I focused on participant’s singing ability and voice tone while judging them. However, when I filmed “Mix 9”, I made sharp criticisms on trainees. 90% of them dropped tears. What I want to do as a judge of “Mix 9” is to pick up a trainee who can become the ace of the k-pop industry. Their singing and dancing ability are important, of course, but so are their appearance and charm.

Q. There has been a rumor that you’re on bad terms with Brave Brothers and SEVEN, who have left YG.
YG: It’s not true. While filming “Mix 9”, I visited Brave Brothers’ company for the first time in 10 years. It was really nice meeting him.
Q. What did you feel while filming the program?
YG: I’ve met CEOs of more than 60 k-pop agencies, and I became very intimate with them. They love their trainees like their own children, and they treated me like family. When I gave advice to their trainees to fix the trainees’ problems, they cried more than their trainees. And actually, they reminded me of my old days. I’ve been just trying to go forward again and again, but watching them, who do their best in poor surroundings, I reflected on myself. I’m sure such an experience will be a valuable asset to YG.

BIGBANG’s Seungri jokingly threw Yang Hyun Suk under the bus with his candid yet hilarious comments.

During a press conference for JTBC and YG Entertainment’s upcoming idol survival show “MIXNINE,” Seungri talked about his experience as a special judge on the show, saying, “I visited several agencies with Yang Hyun Suk and conversed with different trainees for approximately three to four hours.”

“Unlike YG, most of the agencies’ CEOs don’t really scold their trainees. They treat them like their own children and give them lots of love,” he explained, adding that he didn’t think this was necessarily the best method.

“I could’ve ran a successful business with all the slippers thrown at me over the years,” he hilariously commented.

Taeyang, CL, And Oh Hyuk’s New Music Variety Show To Air Next Month

More details have been released for tvN’s newest music variety program starring BIGBANG member Taeyang, CL, and Oh Hyuk.

The show will be titled “My Job Is A Singer – Their Double Lives” or “Double Life” for short (literal translations) and it will reveal the “double lives” of the top one percent musicians Taeyang, CL, and Oh Hyuk. The program aims to show the behind-the-stage of how these musicians create their music and prepare for their performances, and what their ordinary daily lives off the stage look like as well.

Taeyang, who debuted 12 years ago, is known for his smooth vocals and stunning performances on-stage, is 30-year-old Dong Young Bae off-stage. “Double Life” will show the life of Taeyang as well as Young Bae who has a lot of things he wants to do, places he wants to go, foods he wants to eat, and dreams he wants to accomplish.

CL is Korea’s main girl crush rapper. She is known for her fierce charisma on-stage, but is a stark contrast off-stage when she shows her clumsy side as 26-year-old Lee Chae Rin.

Oh Hyuk is known for his unique vocals on-stage as a part of band Hyuk Oh, but off the stage, he likes to have fun with his friends as 25-year-old Hyuk.

Meanwhile, Kush, Yoo Se Yoon, Defcon, and Jung Hyung Don were revealed as the MCs of the show.

Recently, a netizen stirred up a controversy after revealing s/he damaged the chandelier at G-Dragon's cafe in Jeju Island.  However, the netizen did not seem apologetic but rather angry at the fact the cafe demanded repair costs of 300,000 KRW (265 USD). 

In reaction to the situation, people defended G-Dragon and criticized the netizen for their selfishness. The criticism towards the netizen is ongoing and some are even suggesting G-Dragon take legal action. 

 

Meanwhile, the damaged chandelier has also received great attention. It's now revealed the chandelier is a limited edition designed by world-famous French designer Philippe Starck, and there are only 50 available in the world.

[OSEN=최나영 기자] The first preview video of producer Han Dong-cheol’s new TV show “MIXNINE” has been unveiled, to draw keen attention once again.

The first preview video was unveiled on the official website of JTBC’s “MIXNINE” today (Nov. 23) at 11AM, to further raise fans’ anticipation.

In the preview, YG Entertainment’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK, CL who is a member of judge panel, and MC Noh Hong-cheol visit many entertainment companies including large ones that have already nurtured top stars and small ones located in the mountainside. Trainees found out in the process are shown in the preview, to arouse viewers’ curiosity.

When YANG HYUN SUK talks about his unusual criteria for evaluation, saying, “I’ll focus on the appearance of trainees”, girl trainees who look as pretty as IU and Suzy appear at a perfect timing. Even in a short time, trainees unleash their talent and abilities in the preview video, so the show is expected to captivate many viewers.

In addition, rapper Jang Moon-bok who boasted his talent in Mnet’s “Super Star K” and “Produce 101 Season 2” appears in the preview video as well, surprising many people.

Notably, a president of a music label who is introduced as the biggest rival against YANG HYUN SUK appears at the end of the preview. He is expected to be songwriter Brave Brothers whose talent was first discovered by YANG HYUN SUK.

There have been rumors in the music scene that the two have a sour relationship. So the two’s encounter for the purpose of discovering “new talents” will make “MIXNINE” show even more interesting.

“MIXNINE” is the first TV show created by producer Han Dong-cheol after he joined YG Entertainment. Han has produced popular music survival audition programs including “Produce 101” and “Show Me the Money 6”.

In “MIXNINE” show, YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK will select nine out of 400 trainees discovered from 70 entertainment companies across Korea. The nine will debut as a new idol group who will be the next-generation leader of K-Pop and Korean Wave. YANG formed the best judge panel with BIGBANG’s TAEYANG, CL, Zion.T, as well as special judge Park Jin Young.

There have been many survival audition programs so far, including “K-Pop Star”, “Super Star K”, and “Produce 101”. However, MIXNINE is the first-ever survival audition program in which the head of the judge directly visits small-and-medium-sized music labels to discover new talents. As such, MIXNINE is a new type of survival audition program with a whole new concept.

The first episode of “MIXNINE” will be aired on JTBC on October 29 at 4:50PM. Before the beginning of the broadcasting, on October 28, a showcase will be held at KINTEX in Ilsan, to unveil the cast and the title music for the first time.

[일간스포츠=이미현 기자] Jung Hyung-don, Defconn, Yoo Se-yoon, and KUSH will work as the MCs for a new music reality show in which TAEYANG, CL, and HYUKOH will appear.

According to multiple insiders on October 20, Jung Hyung-don, Defconn, Yoo Se-yoon, and KUSH have been selected as the MCs for the music reality show to be aired on tvN from November. TAEYANG, CL, and HYUKOH will appear in the show.

The program will display the process of TAEYANG, CL, and HYUKOH creating their music. All the details about those artists’ performance including costumes, hairstyles, and concerts will be unveiled in the show. As the artists have not appeared in that many TV shows so far, people are paying keen attention to what kind of new appeals they will show on TV.
