Yang Hyun Suk Bares Thoughts on BIGBANG’s Upcoming Contract Decision: “Even If BIGBANG Does Decide to Leave YG, I Will Help Them”

Yang Hyun Suk Bares Thoughts on BIGBANG’s Upcoming Contract Decision: “Even If BIGBANG Does Decide to Leave YG, I Will Help Them”

Korean news outlet Daily Sports recently approached Yang Hyun Suk at his recently-opened restaurant in Hongdae and asked him some – potentially sensitive – questions about recent goings-on, but only after they got him loose with some Johnnie Walker Blue, says the report.

Daily Sports first asks Yang Hyun Suk about the criticism he received for BIGBANG’s monthly releases, and the group’s apparent monopolization of the spotlight.

“No matter what anyone says, BIGBANG is one of Hallyu’s biggest frontrunners. And they released an album after three years. From YG’s point of view, it was an album released with difficulty. Rather than other artists, who end with just a single round of promotions, we wanted to highlight each of the songs. The scale of our world tours is getting bigger, and we wanted to film music videos for each of the songs and show the whole world,” says Yang Hyun Suk. He says that BIGBANG wasn’t able to do promotions in Korea due to the group’s world tour schedule, and asks for understanding from fans, as BIGBANG is promoting for fans worldwide.

bigbang made tour

Yang Hyun Suk answers a question about whether or not the BIGBANG promotions have delayed activities for other agency artists.

“It’s not an exaggeration to say that BIGBANG is carrying YG. And it’s true that, because of BIGBANG, more people are finding out about other groups like Winner or iKON. It’s the first album for BIGBANG in 3 years, and I think it’s right to put all we can into it. Our other agency artists are preparing albums, as well. Starting from September, a lot of our artists will be making releases. I’d appreciate it if people saw it not as a delay because of BIGBANG, but a win-win strategy for our artists.”

“YG has largely done broadcasts on SBS,” says Daily Sports, and Yang Hyun Suk says it’s a truth he cannot deny, and that his appearance on “K-Pop Star” further perpetuated that opinion.

“However, it doesn’t mean that we have bad relations with KBS or MBC,” says the YG head. “Not doing a lot of music show promotions is a decision that was made at YG a long time ago, and the one or two times a week we do go on music shows, we decided to go with SBS and Mnet, where we like the stage direction more. If we do more music shows, the singers end up spending so much of their time just doing that all week, and they have no energy left to create and prepare something new.”

Regarding BIGBANG’s upcoming contract decision, Yang Hyun Suk expresses that he’s comfortable either way it goes.

Daily Sports asks about T.O.P’s recent, less-than-positive response about re-signing with YG.

“It was probably because it was a variety show and he wanted to be funny,” says Yang Hyun Suk. “The BIGBANG members grew up in the YG system. I really like them a lot. I have a lot of plants at my house. Even plants, they say, get sick if you move them to a new place. Personality-wise, I don’t really express this often, but I’ve been with BIGBANG for over 10 years, and they’re like family. I don’t think there will be much objection [to a contract renewal].”

bigbang debut-2015

However, Yang Hyun Suk states, “Even if BIGBANG does decide to leave YG, I will help them. Sincerely. A long time ago an investor asked me how he would trust in YG if Wheesung, Gummy, Se7en, and Lexy left the company. It was a very old-fashioned question. We didn’t end up working with that investor. However, afterwards, we yielded great results with artists like BIGBANG, 2NE1, Psy, and Epik High. We think highly of curiosity for new things, and our goals for tomorrow, and I strongly believe that if we just do our best with what we have now, great results will always be just around the corner.”

He says, “What I want most from BIGBANG is that they stay together. They’ll be 10 years into their careers next year, and just like the Rolling Stones, I want them to promote together as BIGBANG even when they’re old. And my personal wish is to be able to help and support them along the way.”

BIGBANG’s ‘Zutter’ Music Video With G-Dragon Finally Explains T.O.P’s Instagram

The recent music video for “Zutter” featuring BIGBANG’s G-Dragon and T.O.P may have provided answers to some of the latter’s puzzling Instagram posts.

Since creating his Instagram account, BIGBANG rapper T.O.P has garnered a lot of attention for his unusual posts, including a photo of a pig. But after viewing “Zutter,” fans believe they now understand the reasons behind his posts.

“All the pig and stuff on T.O.P’s Instagram posts finally make sense,” wrote Amanda Kjm on Twitter.

In addition, the Korean lyrics for “Zutter” also further explain his other Instagram posts, including childhood pictures of his chubbier days.

“If you search for the English lyrics, they talk about money, and money sounds like pork in Korean,” commented Kimsray Yat on YouTube. “T.O.P was chubby when he was younger so, the lyric goes like this, ‘I used to be fat when I was young so I know the taste of money. Money here sounds like pork.'”

But “Zutter” is not the only music video BIGBANG released for their “E” album. “Let’s Not Fall in Love” was released on the same day, featuring all five members of BIGBANG.

Recently, the YG Entertainment boy band concluded their M.A.D.E. World Tour in Jakarta, Indonesia. However, some fans made complaints about the experience, allegedly due to the local promoter’s poor planning and production.

“Please read this and take it as a lesson. From a disappointed VIP,” started a letter from the disappointed Twitter fan Lily Quinn.

The letter, which has received thousands of retweets since appearing online, highlighted multiple problems with the concert, including lack of promotion, lack of security and personnel and technical problems during the concert.

BIGBANG will conclude their promotional activities by releasing the full album on Sept. 1.

[Oh! SEN FOCUS] From BIGBANG to PSY, when the rush of YG will stop?

[OSEN=??? ??] YG is sweeping music charts in 2015, with a formidable power. Centering around BIGBANG who has been releasing new songs for five months in a row, YG’s leading singers are coming back one after another. Plus, YG is strongly supporting entertainment programs, with G-DRAGON and TAEYANG appearing in the music festival of “The Infinite Challenge”, as well as Hyuk Oh of YG’s sister label HIGHGRND performing in the same show. Furthermore, in September, PSY will come back and iKON will make an official debut. Will this rush of YG ever end?

YG fans call it “chewing up the charts”. It refers to YG’s domination of music charts, as shown by all new songs of BIGBANG released in May ranked in top places on charts, the songs setting highest-ever streaming volume record on charts and taking the No.1 on charts for the longest-ever period of time. Such a record is all the more meaningful as it is set in an environment completely different from a few years ago, when BIGBANG and 2NE1 were the only YG singers who could sweep charts like that.

Other than the lineup of YG artists to come back or make debut in May to September this year, the YG resources to come back or debut, including WINNER, LEE HI, AKMU, and a new YG girl group for which YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK is working on are rich. After YG’s listing in KOSDAQ, the company has pursued both qualitative and quantitative expansion, and now such investment of YG is bearing fruit.

The fruit is of different colors and shapes. For example, old-boy hip-hop duo JINUSEAN who began the YG lineup for the year 2015 came back after 11 years of absence with new song “Tell Me One More Time”, proving their still-big influence by sweeping the No.1 on major charts. JINUSEAN decided to come back a little bit earlier than BIGBANG to avoid competition with the junior YG aritst, and boasted their enormous power first before BIGBANG.

BIGBANG followed JINUSEAN to come back, and their comeback project “MADE” has been carried out since May this year, showing an unprecedented achievement. Beginning from “LOSER” and “BAE BAE” released on May 1, “BANG BANG BANG” and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” released in June, as well as “IF YOU” and “SOBER” released in July swept music charts. On August 5, two brand-new songs will be released again with music videos, too. The title of the two songs is “ZUTTER” and “LET’S NOT FALL IN LOVE”.

“ZUTTER” is a song of BIGBANG’s GD&T.O.P unit who comes back after five years of absence. Its poster is rousing fans’ expectations from even before the song’s release. “LET’S NOT FALL IN LOVE” is expected to boast BIGBANG’s new appeal, with a mood that totally contrasts to that of “ZUTTER”. The big success of BIGBANG on music charts is foreseeable for this month, too.

In the rush of girl groups’ comeback in this July, Hyuk Oh has stood out. Hyuk Oh’s label HIGHGRND was established by TABLO, for the purpose of nurturing musicians with talent and unique style. Hyuk Oh made a meteoric rise by appearing in the music festival of “The Infinite Challenge”, to be recognized for their talent. Hyuk Oh is now standing under a big spotlight, as the most promising super rookie.

For August and September this year, an YG warning has already been issued to the music scene. Along with BIGBANG, GD-TAEYANG in “The Infinite Challenge” and SONG MINHO in Mnet’s “Show Me the Money” have now taken on “chewing up” of music charts. “The Turtle Ship” (feat. Paloalto) of SONG MINHO in ZICO-Paloalto team in “Show Me the Money 4” is enjoying the biggest popularity among all the songs of “Show Me the Money 4”. G-DRAGON and TAEYANG are working with Kwanghee of ZE:A for the music festival of “The Infinite Challenge”. Considering the big power of the music released in “The Infinite Challenge”, the song to be created by GD, TAEYANG, and Kwanghee will definitely have a big impact on music charts.

September is the month of YG. BIGBANG’s “MADE” album will be completed, and iKON who has a big fandom even before their debut will make an official debut in the month. By the end of the month, “world star” PSY will come back to fans with a new song. It is expected that YG songs that have been released so far this year and the new songs will dominate top places on charts. YG is already drawing a big attention for the lineup of its artists’ comeback and debut for this coming September. BIGBANG’s “MADE” album is completed in September and iKON debuts on the 15 of September. By the end of the month, “world star” PSY will come back with a new song. According to YG insiders, those artists are adjusting the schedule for their comeback or debut, to have an interval of two weeks.
