The track was first released as a part of Seungri’s first solo studio album “The Great Seungri,” and Seungri performed it on music shows alongside his title track “1, 2, 3!” It was co-produced by Seungri and Future Bounce, and consists of lyrics co-written by Seungri and WINNER’s Song Mino, who also features in it.

In the music video released on July 27, Seungri and Mino parody the 2018 North Korea–United States summit, which took place last month, but as a “world summit” instead. At other points of the music video, Seungri is pretending to read a Time Magazine issue with himself on the cover or dressed a soldier, while Song Mino impersonates a North Korean military leader.

On July 26, Seungri appeared as a special DJ on SBS Power FM’s “2 O’Clock Escape Cultwo Show,” along with Chungha and reggae duo Skull and Haha as guests.

During the show, Seungri shared a story about congratulatory wedding money. In Korea, guests will traditionally bring money in a pristine white envelope instead of gifts for the couple.

He revealed, “I go to a lot of weddings representing BIGBANG. If we have to go to a staff’s wedding, I’ll usually go as the representative, but there are times where the members will say, ‘You just pay [the congratulatory money] first.’ There’s still a lot of money I haven’t been paid back yet. It’s a little iffy to collect that money and bring up the topic.”

After listening to Seungri’s story, Haha said, “I’ve had to take on that role many times, too.” Following Jung Chan Woo’s suggestion, Seungri addressed his members and said, “I’ve yet to receive 2.5 million won (approximately $2,200) from the four members. Please give it to me when you’re all discharged [from the military].”

Seungri also mentioned how his fellow BIGBANG members T.O.P and G-Dragon have changed.

At one point, DJ Kim Tae Kyun shared an anecdote of attending a BIGBANG concert and said, “If Seungri isn’t there at the concert, I don’t think it can progress very smoothly. Because of you, it felt solid.”

In response to Kim Tae Kyun’s words, Seungri responded, “When BIGBANG first debuted G-Dragon and T.O.P both talked a lot. But as we started to become more popular, they’ve stopped talking. They’ve changed. They’re not talkative anymore and now just force me [to talk].”

Seungri recently made a solo comeback with his first Korean studio album “The Great Seungri” and title track “1,2,3!

Watch: BIGBANG’s Seungri Surprises A Fan By Personally Delivering Concert Tickets To Her

What if BIGBANG’s Seungri personally delivered tickets to his concert to you?

That’s exactly what happened to a lucky fan. The idol made his way to his hometown Gwangju to surprise a fan by pretending to be a parcel deliveryman so he can make her day with concert tickets.

During the ride there, Seungri commented, “This feels strange. I’m nervous about going to my hometown to deliver [concert] tickets, and I’m also excited to meet my fan.” Then he added, “While being part of BIGBANG, I held many concerts, but for the first time, I’m singing more than two songs by myself. [My fans] never saw me sing songs for a long time, so I think there will be many things to see at this concert.”

Seungri continued, “It’s my first time delivering [concert tickets] myself, but the chosen winner coincidentally lives in my hometown Gwangju of Jeolla Province. So I came here on the morning train, and I’m on my way to give these to her. Actually, I didn’t eat yet. While I’m at my fan’s house, I’m hoping I can have lunch there. I’m so hungry!”

Then Seungri called his fan and pretended he was a deliveryman with a package for her that had to be signed by her personally. The fan seemed to be on guard though as she asked him what parcel service he’s from. Fortunately, Seungri had a quick answer for her, and she believed him this time. After hanging up, Seungri said, “I didn’t get caught! I was shocked! When she asked me what parcel service I’m from, my back started sweating! Fortunately, I was able to answer because I know one parcel service.”

When Seungri rang the doorbell and the fan came out, she couldn’t hide her joy and surprise at seeing the idol. Her mother was shocked as well. Yet, they warmly welcomed the sudden visitor inside their home. Seungri gave her two concert tickets so that she could attend his concert with her younger sibling. That wasn’t all though. Seungri also gifted BIGBANG merchandise to her as well!

After all the gifts were unveiled, Seungri suddenly requested to see his fan’s room so that he could confirm that she truly was his fan. He said, “If I go to her room and another idol’s picture is there…Like if there’s a giant picture of [Wanna One’s] Kang Daniel in there…If you’re truly my fan, you should have a [bromide] next to your bed.” The fan confessed, “I wrapped up [the bromide] well and am preciously storing it,” and Seungri laughed in disbelief.

Fortunately for both Seungri and the fan, her room was filled with pictures of BIGBANG, including their calendar. Seungri pretended to search for Kang Daniel, but the fan assured him she really doesn’t have a photo of him. Instead of Kang Daniel, Seungri found a water bottle from one of his ramen restaurants and grew touched by her action.

Right when Seungri was about to leave, the fan’s father came home and admitted he raced home to meet him. Seungri commented, “I’ve been a part of BIGBANG for over ten years now, but never have I been so close to my fans and shared conversations with them nor met their families before. So I’m very happy to meet you.”

SEUNGRI’s ‘Seungtsby’ Character Effect… A Blue-Chip in Variety Shows and the Advertising Industry

[일간스포츠=김연지 기자] BIGBANG’s SEUNGRI is ‘hot’ in the broadcasting and advertising industries. It’s the ‘Seungtsby’ character effect.

While SEUNGRI is active as a solo artist after making comeback in 5 years, he is receiving various love calls due to his character ‘Seungtsby (a word combining SEUNGRI and The Great Gatsby). He was recently selected as an exclusive model for the first time since debut, and other commercial offers are currently being discussed and signed. His character is appealing to the public with different charms and concepts from when he works as a member of BIGBANG, which led to an increase of attention by the advertising industry.

A representative from an advertising agency stated, ‘SEUNGRI is receiving favorable response due to his appearances in variety shows. His character and the fact that he is a member of BIGBANG worked as his strengths, and the advertising industry is paying attention to him. He has needs from the younger generation, and especially in advertisements targeting women”

SEUNGRI became a favorable character from a liked and disliked character due to his appearances in variety shows. He revealed his daily lives through MBC ‘I Live Alone’ and SBS ‘Ugly Duckling’, which received positive reviews. His passion and hard work as a businessman, an artist, and a student of foreign languages to improve his competitiveness raised empathy from the public. The fact that he succeeded as a businessman not simply due to his title as a member of BIGBANG, but his hard work and passion made his character favorable. His ‘cute bluff’ was added on to complete a variety character, and eventually pleased and made the people enjoy his character as ‘Seungtsby’.

On a recently held press conference celebrating the release of his solo album, SEUNGRI commented on becoming a favorable character with ‘Seungtsby’. He stated, “My character was liked and disliked before I made appearances on ‘Ugly Duckling’ and ‘I Live Alone’, but people started to look at me in a different way after the show airings. President YANG HYUN SUK told me that “People are starting to like you because you are being true to yourself’. But I’ve never been fake. I was just a character that was liked and disliked. I think the public is looking at me in a favorable way since I always do my best and try hard”.

The idol recently participated in a photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar. While he is known for his bright and personable character, Seungri showcased a different kind of charisma, in line with the pictorial’s “The Two Faces of Seungri” concept.

In the accompanying interview, Seungri discussed how he sees and defines himself as “a negotiator.”

The BIGBANG member explained, “I believe that a talent I have is the ability to find and maintain the balance between one side and another side. I am a pacifist. I don’t like fighting.”

“That’s also why I try to find markets without competition,” Seungri added. “Even with music, I prefer to strive for things that are unique to me, rather than following popular trends and facing many competitors.”

He recently made a solo comeback with his first Korean studio album “The Great Seungri,” which features title track “1, 2, 3!” Seungri revealed, “I tried my best to come out with ‘BIGBANG-like’ music. I made an effort to highlight my own character as Seungri and BIGBANG’s unique color rather than challenging something completely new or undergoing a musical change.”

The idol clarified, “That’s not to say the album is facile, but rather that it has a good energy about it. The music will sound like something I would definitely release when you listen to the album.”

On the show, Seungri revealed the story about how he came to start his ramen business. “I started promoting in Japan, and I was living alone. But then suddenly, the exchange rate rose like crazy, and the cost of living became too much. So [YG] asked me to come back to Korea. Holding back tears, I went to the ramen shop right by where I was living. I had exactly 600 yen (approximately $6). The store had exactly one ramen, and it was 650 yen. So I asked the owner if I could have the ramen without the pork, and just pay 600 yen. Smiling, he said yes. And as I was eating my ramen, thinking about going home, he quietly just gave me two pieces of marinated pork. That’s when I decided that I was going to bring this food and the emotions it stirred to Korea.”

He said he’s now looking for someone to take over. “I started the business because I wanted to share the emotions I felt, but it’s gotten so big that it’s a lot of pressure now, and the original meaning behind it isn’t quite there anymore.”

The BIGBANG member also revealed the story behind how he became the CEO of YGX. “Many people think that Yang Hyun Suk gave me the position, but I was having trouble [with a business] fostering DJs, and I couldn’t do it alone. I asked Yang Hyun Suk for help, and he took us in. I feel like he put a lot of faith in me, so I’m happy.”

On his new comeback dances, Seungri said, “When I see groups like BTS and Wanna One, their dances go so hard, and I thought, there’s no way I can top that. So I asked for all of my dances to be funny.”

“Idol Room” also brought on members from Seungri’s YGX label to go head-to-head with Seungri in jiu-jitsu, the prize being free use of Seungri’s personal credit card. All the YGX artists have to do is to get into a mount position to win. When the first artist didn’t even get close to winning, Seungri said, “I’ll only use my right hand.”

Seungri On How Much He Earns Compared To G-Dragon, Sends Message To BIGBANG Members In Military

The interview was held in one of Seungri’s restaurants, and when asked just how many businesses he is involved in, the BIGBANG member listed a wide range of endeavors: “Ramen, clubs, cosmetics, bio-pharma, nanotech, and dust masks.”

On how much he earns annually, Seungri joked, “Let me just put it this way. What G-Dragon earns, I earn about one percent of that. He doesn’t do any businesses; he just has a lot of money.”

Seungri saw a lot of influence from John Travolta, one of his favorite actors. “I was inspired a lot by [the dancing] from movies like ‘Grease’ and ‘Pulp Fiction.’”

Seungri also mentioned his plans for military enlistment early next year, and when told that the BIGBANG members could be watching, he said to them, “I hope you stay healthy and finish out your service well,” and added, “I heard that you asked you superiors to please have me assigned to your bases. I will never become a subordinate to any of [you]. Especially going to G-Dragon’s base, I’d rather not.”

Seungri said, “I’m just joking. I miss you a lot, and I hope you give me a lot of tips for the army.”

In the interview, Seungri described his solo album “The Great Seungri.” He began, “In one phrase, it’s a satisfying album. It’s an album where I’m showing all of my hidden talents that I couldn’t display while promoting for BIGBANG.”

He continued, “Did you watch the film, ‘The Great Gatsby?’ It’s not really a party-like, fun film. In order to reconnect with his love Daisy, he worked really hard to earn money and threw a party. He made himself known, expressed himself, and prepared everything, but couldn’t win back Daisy.”

He added, “Everyone has a story. You can see that when looking at [a piece by] Basquiat. Whether it’s art or music, there has to be a tragedy for the public to sympathize. In this album, there is the ‘party people,’ fun, bright Seungri, but also the feelings of pain and hardship that I keep inside.”

Seungri recently gained a positive image as a businessman through his variety show appearances. On this, he commented, “While appearing on shows, I think my sincere appearance got through [to viewers]. The things that I’ve done till now weren’t for show, but are the real me. People who thought that it was all made up saw the reality shows and thought, ‘Ah, he runs a business and really works hard,’ and ‘That’s really who he is.’ I think people began to acknowledge me.”

Talking about an increase in middle-aged fans, he said with a laugh, “After appearing on ‘My Ugly Duckling,’ middle-aged women really like me when I go to restaurants. [When they see me] while cutting green onions, they leave their knife on the cutting board and run out.”

He added, “These days, I hear ‘Aww, eat more,’ rather than the fans saying, ‘Oppa! Oppa!’ It’s new. I wonder what’s going on.”

This issue of High Cut featuring Seungri hit stands on July 19. Check out his photos below!
