Even in a military camp, BIGBANG member G-Dragon would want to be always present in the eyes of his fans. The K-pop idol will soon release a full-length documentary about who he is on and off the stage.

The BIGBANG rapper/songwriter’s documentary is titled Kwon Ji Yong Act III: M.O.T.T.E after his last solo concert before his enlistment. G-Dragon’s tour Act III: M.O.T.T.E has been declared as the largest tour ever conducted by a Korean solo artist.

The documentary will feature both the confident singer onstage and the real Kwon Ji Yong when he is not performing. Kwon Ji Yong is G-Dragon’s real name. It will also reveal the singer’s dreams as well as suffering because of his fame.

“I love the feeling of living my dream. Occasionally though, I feel lost in the blurred line between dream and reality,” he said in a teaser trailer for the documentary.

It can be recalled that while promoting his self-titled EP Kwon Ji Yong last year, the K-pop artist revealed that he created the alter ego G-Dragon to keep his stage persona separated from Kwon Ji Yong. In an interview with Elle Korea, he also described G-Dragon as someone who is full of self-confidence and strong while Kwon Ji Yong is an introvert guy with many thoughts in his mind.

During his Act III: M.O.T.T.E concert, G-Dragon also expressed his desire to distance himself from his alter ego. The singer said he has been living as G-Dragon for quite some time now and he wants to live as Kwon Ji Yong again. Many concertgoers observed how the famous idol melts away into the shy Ji Yong during the concert.

G-Dragon is currently serving his two-year mandatory military service since early this year. He is set to be discharged in November 2019.

About three months ago, G-Dragon had undergone surgery to his right ankle. Then it was reported that the artist was receiving special treatment at a military hospital. His label, YG Entertainment, and the Ministry of Defense released statements claiming that the allegations were false.

During his enlistment, his fans also sent him letters which caused disruptions in the military camp operation. This prompted YG Entertainment to publicly ask G-Dragon’s fans to refrain from sending letters. While waiting for G-Dragon to be discharged from the military, his fans can watch him in Kwon Ji Yong Act III: M.O.T.T.E documentary which will be available on YouTube Premium starting on September 5.

Seungri Compares MAMAMOO To BIGBANG, Gives Hilarious But Practical Advice To Hwasa

Seungri Compares MAMAMOO To BIGBANG, Gives Hilarious But Practical Advice To Hwasa

On the August 20 broadcast of JTBC’s “Please Take Care of My Refrigerator,” it was MAMAMOO member Hwasa’s turn to have dishes cooked by the celebrity chefs.

After the MCs introduced the MAMAMOO member, Seungri said, “When I see MAMAMOO, it reminds me of BIGBANG during our debut days. MAMAMOO is different from other girl groups in concept, musical style, and character, and that’s a lot like BIGBANG when we first debuted.”

The MCs mentioned that Hwasa has incredible stage presence, and has a unique eyebrow raise that isn’t often done in K-pop. She said, “I think it’s become a habit from watching foreign movies.”

Seungri then told a story of how he tried to stand out in BIGBANG but failed during their promotions for “Loser.” Seungri said, “For the first time ever, it said ‘Chorus: Seungri’ on the lyrics. It was the highlight of the song. So I thought, ‘This is it. This is my chance to show my ability as a singer.’”

He continued, “But when I arrived to record, it suddenly said ‘Seungri and G-Dragon.’ And in the recording booth, G-Dragon was also singing along with me. Softly. Even though he really doesn’t have to.” Talking about the music video recording, Seungri said that the directors would be filming him but keep moving the focus to G-Dragon, coming back to get a brief shot of him, and then going back to G-Dragon for an extended cut.

Hwasa explained that for MAMAMOO, there’s no reason for something like Seungri’s case to happen: “For us, every single member sings through the entire song once. From there, we divide the song to parts that are most appropriate for each member.”

Seungri said to Hwasa, “You must get along really well with your members.” Referencing an old scandal of his, Seungri said, “For me, they’ll give me grief about a getting a photo taken of me while I was sleeping.”

When asked if he has any advice for Hwasa, Seungri said, “This is the time to check in with the other members. If all of the spotlight is on you, the other members could be a little upset. Your members are probably getting a ton of texts asking about you. Just like I got so many texts asking about G-Dragon. So it’s necessary for you to take care of them.”

Seungri added, drawing deeply from his own experiences, “Something I want to say to the other members of MAMAMOO is that you need to make a path for yourself. Who’s going to help you? No one! The entertainment business is cruel and cold. Especially agencies. They won’t help you. They’ll put all their staff on someone else, and you’ll have no one.” With the entire studio erupting into laughter, Seungri said, “I’m sorry, but I think I’m going to cry. Can someone give me a tissue?”

Seungri’s advice continued: “Because you’re not perfect, and you can make a mistake at any time, you should always be careful of what you say, and always check to see if your mic is on or off. And when you’re buying clothes that have English on them, it seems cool, right? You have to read it.”

10 Rapper/Singer Collabs We’re Obsessed With This Summer

10 Rapper/Singer Collabs We’re Obsessed With This Summer

10 Rapper/Singer Collabs We’re Obsessed With This Summer

Aug 20, 2018
byhgordon

We love it when our favorite K-pop artists collaborate with each other, and one of the best types of collaborations is the classic rapper/singer duo. After all, a well-delivered rap verse is a great way to spice up any song, and some melodious vocals can flawlessly enrich a good rap track. Thankfully, there has been no shortage of these memorable collabs this summer, so we’ve pulled together a list of 10 of our favorites. Some turn up the heat, while others are as refreshing as a cool summer breeze — and we know you’ll love them all!

1. “Cereal” — Crush feat. Block B’s Zico

R&B artist Crush teamed up with Zico for this laid-back summer track. Crush’s velvety vocals, Zico’s smooth verse, and the bubbly (and extremely catchy!) synth beat make this collaboration the perfect summer bop. The music video is equally sleek, and you’ll enjoy watching Crush and Zico have fun letting loose together — although we admit we don’t quite know what’s going on with those floating bodiless backup dancers.

2. “Don’t Give It To Me” — MAMAMOO’s Hwasa and Loco

Rapper Loco and MAMAMOO’s Hwasa brought on the heat with this simmering collab. “Don’t Give It To Me” is an alluringly sexy track about the complicated feelings of attraction in a relationship. The uniquely filmed MV and the back-and-forth between the two turns the song into a musical conversation. Loco has expressed his admiration for Hwasa and his desire to work with her in the past, and we’re loving how this collaboration turned out!

3. “Cover Girl” — VIXX’s Leo feat. EXID’s LE

“Cover Girl” is a retro b-side track from Leo’s solo album “Canvas.” The VIXX member’s famously seductive vocals carry the funky song, while LE offers a crisply contrasting rap verse with her distinctively edgy voice.

4. “Where R U From” — BIGBANG’s Seungri feat. WINNER’s Song Mino

While the hyungs of BIGBANG are away in the military, maknae Seungri is out to play. “Where R U From” is an electronic banger that would be incomplete without WINNER rapper Mino’s slick verse. But this collab is most memorable for its epically over-the-top music video, which is rife with parodies: from recent political events (check the Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump lookalikes), to G-Dragon’s unforgettable “Fantastic Baby” hairstyle, to Seungri’s own nickname “Panda.” See if you can spot all the references!

5. “Instant” — Block B’s Park Kyung feat. Sumin

There’s a lot to love about “Instant,” from its music video’s quirky aesthetics to its thought-provoking lyrics, which explore the idea that technology has made relationships easier, but cheaper and shallower. Sumin’s silky vocals are the perfect complement to Park Kyung’s distinctive voice, and the two harmonize masterfully on this smooth track. Even more impressive is the fact that Park Kyung wrote, composed, and produced the song himself!

6. “All Night Long” — Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon feat. NCT’s Lucas

“All Night Long” is a hidden gem off of Taeyeon’s solo album “Something New.” You can’t go wrong with her sweet vocals, and Lucas gives the track a memorable twist by leading into the song with his rap. It’s the perfect carefree, easy-listening song for those laid-back summer days.

7. “Soulmate” — Zico feat. IU

IU lent her sparkling vocals to “Soulmate,” Zico’s second collab of the summer. In addition to his rap verse, Zico also shows off his prowess as a vocalist, as he sings a large portion of the song. The MV for “Soulmate” is as cute as it gets, and we love all the adorable interactions between these two!

8. “Selfish” — MAMAMOO’s Moonbyul feat. Red Velvet’s Seulgi

Moonbyul and Seulgi know that summer is the perfect time to reconnect with yourself, and in “Selfish,” they affirm the importance of doing things that make them happy, instead of always trying to please others. A breezy song with a sweet message and a cute MV? We’re glad these two took time away from their respective powerhouse girl groups for this collab!

9. “You & Me” — Yoon Mi Rae feat. Junoflo

Yoon Mi Rae may be best known as a legendary rapper, but she opts for the vocal route in “You & Me,” letting featured artist Junoflo take on the rap verse. The MV features these two, surrounded by various dancers, jamming out and having fun to the catchy song.

10. “Mollado” — Seungri feat. iKON’s B.I

It may not come with a wild music video like “Where R U From,” but that doesn’t make the second collab off Seungri’s solo album “The Great Seungri” any less addictive. B.I features on this Latin dance track, which the iKON rapper also helped compose. “Mollado” is the best of flirty summer fun!

Which summer rapper/singer collab is your favorite? Let us know in the comments!

The song also topped US Billboard’s ‘World Digital Song Sales’ Chart, and Japan’s iTunes Comprehensive ‘TOP SONG’ Chart. The song received tremendous support and popularity as an event release, without a MV or special promotion.
