BigBang picked as artist of 2015: survey

SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Koreans have chosen boy band BigBang as the artist of 2015, a Gallup survey showed Thursday.

The five-member act received 15.5 percent of the votes in interviews conducted by Gallup Korea in July, September and November.

BigBang topped music charts every month from May to August, when they released "Bang Bang Bang," "Loser," "Sober" and "Bae Bae" on the first day of each month. These singles culminated in the album "MADE."

BigBang had been the No. 2 artist of the year for three consecutive years from 2007 to 2009. They were second in 2011, and this is the first time the group topped the Gallup survey.

Singer-songwriter IU, who released her EP "CHAT-SHIRE" in October, was a close second with 15.4 percent.

Third place went to Girls' Generation with 11.9 percent. After a brief setback caused by the exit of member Jessica last year, the eight-member act drove both title tracks on the fifth album "Lion Heart" to the top of music charts.

The pollster interviewed 4,200 South Koreans aged 13-59, and for idol groups, they interviewed an additional 1,500 South Koreans aged 13-29 to reflect their particular popularity among younger people.

The survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5 percentage points. For idol groups, the margin of error was plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

VIPs are in for a disappointment with the upcoming year-end K-pop music awards ceremonies.

Following their epic performance at the Mnet Asian Music Awards earlier this month, BIGBANG will not appear on stage at any other 2015 awards shows.

According to YG Entertainment, the group is not going to be attending because the members will be focusing on their world tour and completing their MADE album.

In 2015, the group released four single albums and seven music videos as part of their MADE Series, all while taking their MADE 2015-16 World Tour across the globe.

The tour, which kicked off on April 25 and 26 in Seoul, will finish up the last few stops in Japan in 2016. BIGBANG will start again on January 9, 2016, where they will perform for their fans in Osaka. Their MADE tour will officially end on February 23, 2016, with Tokyo being the last stop.

BIGBANG won the Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Music Video, and Best International Artist awards at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards on Dec. 2, and four trophies including Song of the Year and Artist of the Year at the MelOn Music Awards on Nov. 7.

BigBang goes quiet on music awards

BigBang will miss year-end music award festivals on three networks - KBS, MBC and SBS - reports said Wednesday.

K2015121600199_450.jpg
A source at YG Entertainment said the K-pop band will focus on its new album.

BigBang has been performing around the globe with its "BIGBANG 2015 World Tour ~2016 MADE."

"The members feel sorry for fans that have been waiting for the performance of the band, but they want to produce a more perfect album and performances," the source said.

BigBang swept the nation's major online music charts, including Melon, Bugs, Genie and Naver music, with two songs, "Bang Bang Bang" and "Loser," when the album "MADE" was released.

The band's music video for "Bang Bang Bang" was the most-watched K-pop video of the year on YouTube.

Starnews Asked 28 Music Experts, “Who is the best singer of 2015?” and BIGBANG Got Most Votes

[????=??? ??? ??? ??? ??] As the best singer/team of 2015, music experts chose BIGBANG(G-DRAGON?T.O.P?TAEYANG?DAESUNG?SEUNGRI), “the idol that has gone beyond being just an idol”.

Starnews carried out a survey on 28 music experts, including the staff of management companies, songwriters, producers at broadcasting companies, and critics, and asked “Who is the best singer of 2015?”

Their answers were announced on December 15, and 15 people answered that BIGBANG was the best singer of 2015.

BIGBANG, who debuted in 2006, released “MADE” album singles every month from May until August, and they swept the Gaon charts for four months in a row. Furthermore, they proved that they are the hottest K-pop boy group by going on a “MADE” world tour and holding concerts in not only Asian countries but also in the US, Mexico, and Australia. 2015 was a year to witness the huge popularity of BIGBANG in and out of the country.

When asked why they picked BIGBANG, they said, “BIGBANG released new songs every month. This shows that they have a wide fan base, and it also proved to be a cost-effective way for musicians to communicate with their fans. Their singles became huge hits as was their world tour. They proved that they are the hottest K-pop star.”

EXO and Im Chang-jung both came in second with three votes.

EXO has dominated the charts every time they release an album. Their second album “Exodus”, released in March, ranked 95th on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums. This was the first time that a male Korean musician/group got so high on the Top 200 Albums chart.

Im Chang-jung released a mini album last September, and its title track “Love Again” took the charts by storm. Im Chang-jung’s song taking No.1 spot on the charts is especially meaningful as it shows that if the song is good, seasoned singers can compete against idol singers and win.

Meanwhile, Zico of Block B and hyukoh came in fourth place with two votes, and JYP, Zion.T, AOA, and E-Sens came in sixth place with one vote each.

GD Says “JINUSEAN is like an ancestor to YG artists. Because of them, BIGBANG and iKON exist.”

[OSEN=??? ??] BIGBANG’s leader G-DRAGON said, “JINUSEAN is like an ancestor to YG artists. Because of them, BIGBANG and iKON exist.”

On December 13, JINUSEAN’s first solo concert was held at the Olympic Hall at the Olympic Park in Bangi-dong, Seoul.

G-DRAGON sent a video message to congratulate JINUSEAN on their first concert. He said, “When we were younger, JINUSEAN used to take us out to restaurants often. Mostly, they bought us meat.” He went on to say, “JINUSEAN is like an ancestor to YG artists. Because of them, BIGBANG and iKON exist.”

TAEYANG said, “When I first saw JINUSEAN, they were so big like giants.”

This is JINUSEAN’s first solo concert since their debut. JINUSEAN is getting ready to have a renaissance by releasing a new album. They have decided to hold the concert to thank the fans for sending them so much support and love this year.

At the concert, JINUSEAN put on a variety of performances for everyone to enjoy by singing their old hit songs such as “TELL ME”, “PHONE NUMBER”, and “A-YO” as well as their new hit song “TELL ME ONE MORE TIME”.

[Exclusive] BIGBANG will not perform in music awards of 3 major public TV networks this year… “To concentrate on preparation for new album”

[OSEN=??? ??] Group BIGBANG will not perform in this year’s end-of-year music awards of three major public TV networks.

According to a high-ranking official from YG Entertainment on the 16 this month, BIGBANG will concentrate on preparation for their new album rather than performing in the music awards of the three major public TV networks, to keep their promise to fans. Since BIGBANG’s world tour “BIGBANG 2015 World Tour -2016 MADE” is still going on as well, BIGBANG will spend the whole end-of-year holidays season for their work on new album and preparation for the concert tour.

The YG official explained, “BIGBANG members are so sorry for fans about not performing in the end-of-year music awards. However, they opted for concentrating on preparation for ‘MADE’ full-length album, to keep their promise to fans. The members are now working so hard on the new album day and night without any weekend’s rest, to present high-quality album to fans as soon as possible”.

The news may not be welcomed by fans who have been waiting for BIGBANG’s performances in Korea. However, as BIGBANG is now doing their best for the release of “MADE” full album, fans will be able to witness the grand finale of BIGBANG’s legendary success for this year earlier.

Plus, BIGBANG always puts top priority on the quality of stage production and perfectness of their performances, but end-of-year music awards aired on TV cannot usually guarantee the best quality of performance, as they are very quick-paced with so many singers waiting for their performance. That is one of the factors which made BIGBANG decide not to perform in the three TV networks’ music awards, as their way of production does not fit well with BIGBANG’s style of performance.

So now, BIGBANG is rounding off their busy year with working on their new album. Every album of “MADE” series that began in May this year dominated music charts for four months in a row and recorded great achievements. “LOSER” was selected as the most-listened to song of the year and the video of “BANG BANG BANG” was picked as the most-watched music video of the year. So, people have high expectations for BIGBANG’s full-length album. BIGBANG also recorded great success in end-of-year music awards, by receiving the best artist and song of the year awards, which are grand prizes, in “2015 Melon Music Awards”, as well as the best singer and song of the year awards in “2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards”.

YG Artists Make A Play For The Top In Final Hours Of 2015 KpopStarz Best Of K-Pop Awards Polls

bbxikon-1-jpg.jpg
(Photo : BIGBANG and iKON Official Facebook)

The final day to vote in our end-of-the-year "Best of K-Pop Awards" polls is upon us and as the last few hours slowly tick by the competition among the nominees is definitely heating up.

Vying for the title of "Best K-Pop Song of the Year," 2PM's "My House" continues to come in first but the margin between it and second has dwindled significantly. Bringing in 21.28% of the votes, "My House" manages to stay ahead of the rest but GOT7's "Just Right" and BIGBANG's "Bang Bang Bang" aren't ready to call it just yet. With 14.58% of the votes, "Just Right" manages to hand onto second but coming in at 14.17%, "Bang Bang Bang" stands poised to overthrow the long-running second place holder.

Dropping to fourth, BTS' "I Need U" comes in with 12.8% of the votes while EXO's "Love Me Right" drops to fifth with 12.05%. Girls' Generation's "Party" makes a surprise appearance in the Top Ten, coming in sixth with 6.18% of the votes. Following suit, BIGBANG's "Loser" makes a sudden appearance in the Top Ten, taking seventh with 4.63% of the total votes. Dropping to eighth, Super Junior's "Magic" comes in with 3.09% of the votes while SHINee's "View" falls to ninth with 2.06%. Jung Yong Hwa's "One Fine Day" claims 0.3% more votes than miss A's "Only You" to reclaim the tenth and final spot in the Top Ten with 1.39% of the votes.

In the category of "Best K-Pop Group of the Year," GOT7 manages to hold onto #1 with 26.01% of the votes but that doesn't guarantee they'll be walking away with this particular award. Coming in second with 23.28% of the votes, TVXQ could very well upset the order of the Top Three, that is if BIGBANG doesn't do it first. Making an impressive jump into third, BIGBANG claims 20.27% of the votes, knocking the former third ranked group, 2PM, down to fifth.

With 15.97% of the votes, BTS remains in fourth however the group has managed to triple their number of votes since yesterday and if they can continue the trend in these last few hours, they could find themselves ranked among the Top Three by the time the polls close.

Falling to fifth, 2PM brings in 7.63% of the votes while Girls' Generation remains steady in sixth with 3.08%. Likewise, SHINee holds steady in seventh with 0.76% of the votes while VIXX maintains their position in eighth with 0.43%. In another of several surprise moves, iKON shows up in ninth with 0.41% of the votes while BEAST claims tenth with 0.37%, knocking the former Top Ten contenders, FT Island into 11th, INFINITE to 12th and CNBLUE down to 13th.

Continuing the trend of surprise appearances and major upsets, GOT7's Jackson takes #1 in the category of "Best K-Pop Artist of the Year" with 38.58% of the votes. Following suit, BIGBANG's G-Dragon comes in second with 13.42% , knocking the formerly ranked first, TVXQ's U-Know Yunho, down to third with 12.83% of the votes.

In another surprise move, Jung Yong Hwa climbs from the lower ranks to claim fourth as his own with 11.25% of the votes. Dropping to fifth, 2PM's Nickhun brings in 6.03% of the votes while TVXQ's Max Changmin falls to sixth with 5.46%. In similar fashion, GOT7's BamBam falls to seventh with 2.42% of the votes while label-mates Wooyoung, Junho and Taecyeon, from 2PM, fill the final three position of the Top Ten. With 1.56% of the votes, Wooyoung falls into eighth, Junho drops to ninth with 0.96% and Taecyeon falls to tenth with 0.73%.

Even the seemingly unchanging "Best K-Pop Rookie Group" category has seen a bit of an upset in the past 24 hours. While TWICE continues to dominate with 36.23% of the votes and Seventeen seems comfortably settled in second with 18.15%, the former third ranked group, DAY6 has been forced out of the Top Three by iKON. Coming in with 16.7% of the total votes, YG's rookie group now holds the #3 position.

Dropping to fourth, DAY6 holds 15.55% of the votes and with mere 1.15% separating them from their third place competitor, they could easily reclaim their position before the polls close. Remaining in fifth, Monsta X brings in 5.25% of the votes while UP10TION holds steady in sixth with 3%. N.Flying bring in 1.68% of the votes, which keeps them steady in Seventh while G-Friend remains in eighth with 1.53%. CLC continues to com in ninth with 1.15% of the votes while Oh My Girl rounds out the Top Ten with 0.75%.

Polls close today at 11:59PM EST which means there's still time for you to cast your vote but you'd better do it soon if you want to see your favorite songs, artists and groups walking away with one (or several) of this year's awards.

BIGBANG to not attend any of the main end of the year award ceremonies this year

Aww, it looks like the end of the year music award ceremonies just got a little less interesting. BIGBANG has been reported to not be attending any of the ceremonies from the main 3 broadcasting stations (SBS, MBC and KBS) this year.

According to a YG Entertainment rep, rather than attending the award ceremonies, BIGBANG will keep their promise to fans and focus completely on composing their next album.

The rep stated, “The BIGBANG members feel very sorry towards the fans as they are not able to attend the end of the year music award ceremonies. But they are keeping their promise to fans and have chosen to make a great effort in composing their ‘MADE’ full album. In order to gift the fans with a perfected album even a day earlier, they are focusing completely on composing night and day even through the holidays.”

It’s definitely unfortunate that we won’t be able to see BIGBANG at these ceremonies this year, but we are also impatiently waiting for their full-length ‘MADE’ album. We guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too
