T.O.P Confirmed To Be Dismissed From Duty + Mother Says His Condition Has Improved

T.O.P will be dismissed from his duty as a conscripted policeman today or tomorrow.

A source from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated that a notice of prosecution for illegal marijuana use has been sent to T.O.P today and will most likely arrive tomorrow. As soon as he receives the notice, he will be removed from his position and sent home. The time he spent as a conscripted policeman until now will still count toward his mandatory service, but the time he spends at home on standby will not.

Whether or not T.O.P will have to reenlist will depend on the length of his sentence. If it exceeds 18 months, he will be forcibly discharged from the army and required to reenlist. A sentence shorter than 18 months means that he will continue the remainder of his mandatory service after serving his sentence. His first trial will take place on June 29 at 11:30 a.m. KST.

Earlier today, T.O.P’s mother and his platoon leader revealed that T.O.P’s condition has gotten better.

At approximately 1 p.m. KST, T.O.P’s mother visited her son in his hospital room. Forty-five minutes later, she left the room and was met by reporters asking about T.O.P’s condition. She replied, “He has gotten better.” In response to another question asking if he made eye contact with her and recognized her, she gave the brief answer, “Yes.”

T.O.P’s platoon leader, who had also visited the rapper, stated, “He seems to be able to communicate, and he also recognized me as his platoon leader.”

T.O.P is currently being treated at the Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital after losing consciousness due to an overdose of prescribed tranquilizers. Today at 9 a.m. KST, the hospital had stated that he was still in a state of lethargy, but he seems to be recovering, according to his mother’s and platoon leader’s more recent statements.

[Official] G-DRAGON to Come Back with a USB Album

[스포츠조선닷컴=정유나 기자] G-DRAGON’s solo album is to be revealed later in the day.

G-DRAGON’s new album “KWON JI YONG” is to be released at 6 PM on May 8, and in the run up to its official release, YG Entertainment uploaded a counter poster on its blog.

The poster features an image of a USB that has “KWON JI YONG, BLOOD TYPE A, AUGUST 18, 1988” written on it.

G-Dragon switches new album’s title song amid T.O.P scandal

G-Dragon, a member of South Korean boy band BIGBANG, changed the title song of his new solo album, according to his agency Thursday, most likely to avoid controversy over the provocative name.

The title song of G-Dragon’s album “Kwon Ji Yong,” which comes out Thursday evening, has been changed from “Bullshit” to “Untitled,” according to YG Entertainment. Earlier this month, YG had announced that the title track was “Bullshit.”

YG didn’t offer an explanation as to why the rapper-singer switched the title song. But observers speculate that the artist may have decided to place the provocative hip-hop track on the back burner to avoid controversy, especially in light of band mate T.O.P’s recent marijuana scandal and drug overdose.

T.O.P was hospitalized Tuesday from an apparent overdose of benzodiazepine, a day after he was indicted without detention on charges of smoking marijuana. He is suspected of smoking the banned substance four times with a 21-year-old female trainee singer at his home in Seoul in October last year.

According to the company, “Untitled” is a slow-tempo track that sings of longing for a love to return after a breakup.

Kwon Ji-yong is G-Dragon’s real name. As the title suggests, the album has an autobiographical aspect to it, with lyrics focused on G-Dragon’s personal character and growing pains as he is about to enter his 30s.

“It’s not an album meant to produce another hit song but rather he filled it with the music and lyrics that he wanted to produce and tell,” a YG representative said.

Debuting as a BIGBANG member in 2006, the singer made a solo debut in 2009 with “Heartbreaker.” He has since released two more albums: “One of a kind” in 2012 and “Coup d’etat” in 2013.

Following the release of the new album, the singer is to begin a concert tour of 19 cities around the world in Seoul on Saturday.

“(His condition) has improved substantially,” the singer’s mother told reporters at Ewha Womans University Medical Center in western Seoul after visiting her son being treated in an intensive care unit.

When asked whether she made eye contact with her son, the mother answered, “Yes.”

A senior police official from T.O.P’s police squad, who accompanied the mother, said, “He recognized me. It seems he can communicate.”

The 29-year-old singer-rapper, whose real name is Choi Seung-hyun, was hospitalized Tuesday from an apparent overdose of benzodiazepine, a day after he was indicted without detention on charges of smoking marijuana.

T.O.P, member of popular boy band BIGBANG, is suspected of smoking the banned substance four times with a 21-year-old would-be singer, only identified by her surname Han, at his home in Seoul in October last year.

“For not being able to rise up to your expectations, we will gravely acknowledge any blame,” YG said, adding that it will do its best to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Choi has been serving his mandatory military service as a conscripted policeman since February. He had worked at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul but was transferred to a different police corps in eastern Seoul following his indictment.

His military service period will be put on hold until a court reaches a verdict. If he receives a jail term of 18 months or more, he will be dishonorably discharged from the service.

All able-bodied Korean men are required to complete at least 21 months of military service before the age of 35 in South Korea.

YG Releases Official Apology Regarding BIGBANG T.O.P’s Recent Controversy + Date For T.O.P’s First Trial Announced

On June 8, YG Entertainment released an official apology regarding the recent controversies surrounding one of their artists, BIGBANG’s T.O.P.

The agency stated, “We bow our heads and sincerely apologize to those who were hurt and disappointed by the recent chain of shameful events surrounding T.O.P. He is holding himself accountable for the controversy and will receive any and all reprehension for falling short of everyone’s expectations with a heavy heart.”

They continued to give an update on T.O.P’s current condition and stated, “As was already stated in the official briefing by the medical team, T.O.P was brought to the hospital after he was found in between a state of deep sleep and semiconsciousness in the dorm of his platoon headquarters. He is currently in the intensive care unit receiving treatment for the third day in a row. We are praying for his speedy recovery.”

YG Entertainment concluded their statement by saying they would work hard to make sure similar problems would not arise in the future.

It has been confirmed that, as of 9 a.m. KST on June 8, T.O.P is still in a state of severe lethargy at the Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital. The hospital released an official statement saying, “As T.O.P has not woken up as of yet, the department of neurology and the department of psychiatry have not been able to start their collaborative treatment. They will begin collaborative treatment measures as soon as he regains consciousness. There is no immediate threat to his life and we will monitor his progress over the course of a week before deciding if he will be discharged from the hospital or moved to the general ward.”

T.O.P’s first trial was also announced to be taking place on June 29 at 11:30 a.m. KST at the Seoul Central District Court. A formal hearing requires that the defendant be present so T.O.P will most likely be in attendance, given that there are no extraordinary circumstances.

Meanwhile, T.O.P was charged with marijuana use earlier this month and was dismissed from duty for the duration of his prosecution. T.O.P released a hand-written apology about his controversy and fellow BIGBANG member G-Dragon also apologized for T.O.P’s marijuana case.
