[Focus IS] Eight Songs out of the Top 15 Songs in the Charts are YG Songs

[일간스포츠=이미현 기자] YG Entertainment is definitely doing a good job this year. It must have set its mind to make 2017 a year to work hard, and as a result, eight songs out of the top 15 songs in the charts are YG songs.

As of 9 AM on June 10, songs of YG musicians are dominating all the top spots of Melon. The No.1 spot was taken by G-DRAGON’s “UNTITLED”. The second and third place went to G-DRAGON’s “BULLSHIT” and “SUPER STAR”, respectively. PSY’s “I LUV IT” and “NEW FACE” were at No. 7 and No. 8. G-DRAGON’s “MIDDEL FINGERS-UP” took the No. 10 spot, WINNER’s “REALLY REALLY” was ranked 14th and G-DRAGON’s “DIVINA COMMEDIA” ranked 15th.

YG musicians have been releasing new albums continuously since April. First it was WINNER, and then, SECHSKIES, PSY, iKON, and G-DRAGON each made a comeback and released new albums. TAEYANG will be the next to make a comeback followed by BLACKPINK.

The comeback of YG musicians were a joy to music lovers, and they are dominating the charts. The peak is G-DRAGON, who made a comeback on June 8. His new song has been at the No.1 spot on eight major charts for two days in a row. His new album did not fail anyone’s expectations and showed his true ability as a musician. It is also No.1 on the iTunes charts of 39 countries. He has established his presence as a solo artist with his new album “KWON JI YONG”.

Global star PSY is also doing well on the charts. He wanted to revive his original passion for music when working on his new album. His “I LUV IT” and “NEW FACE” have gained great popularity and got PSY invited to a lot of events.

WINNER is also doing its part. The group released “REALLY REALLY” in April, and the song is still high up on the charts. It has contributed a great deal to YG’s amazing work this year. WINNER has been through a lot, such as losing a member, but it has come back with a force and found its true color.

Five YG artist teams have made a comeback in the first half of this year. And, there’s more to come in the latter half. It will be interesting to see how well they will do on the charts too.

[서울 뉴스1=황미현 기자] A female fan jumped on the stage during the solo concert of BIGBANG’s G-DRAGON.

G-DRAGON kicked off his solo world tour “ACT ⅲ, M.O.T.T.E” at the Sangam World Cup Stadium at 7:30 PM on June 10.

After the opening, G-DRAGON was singing “OBSESSION”, and a female fan jumped on the stage. She approached G-DRAGON holding a light stick, but the staff quickly took her down the stage.

G-DRAGON saw her come up on the stage but did not panic. He continued on with his performance as if nothing happened.

40,000 fans came to the concert that day. Reflecting his global popularity, a number of fans from China, Southeast Asia, and Europe were at the concert on top of G-DRAGON’s Korean fans.

It’s rare for a musician to draw 40,000 people in a solo tour. G-DRAGON has a number of solo hit songs, enabling him to start his third solo world tour.

This solo tour is G-DRAGON’s third solo tour following his tours in 2009 and 2013. The title of his solo tour “M.O.T.T.E” stands for “moment of truth the end”. Fans will be able to see G-DRAGON’s loneliness hidden behind the glamour of his fame.

[MD Review] GD Shows his True Self and Says “It was hard both mentally and physically, but aren’t I good?”

[마이데일리 = 최지예 기자] At the heart of BIGBANG’s G-DRAGON lies KWON JI YONG.

G-DRAGON kicked off his “ACT 3, M.O.T.T.E” tour at the Sangam World Cup Stadium around 8 PM on June 10 and met 40,000 fans.

He showed his unique smile and said, “Hi, I’m KWON JI YONG”. Then, he mentioned how his new album that was released on June 8 topped the charts and said, “I’d been through a lot both mentally and physically while preparing for this album, but it felt good to hear such good news.”

He went on to say, “This concert might have not happened at all” indirectly referring to T.O.P’s marijuana charges. G-DRAGON thanked the audience by saying, “It’s because of you I was able to hold this concert.” He also showed off his confidence by saying, “I’m so good at it, aren’t I?”

G-DRAGON wore red costumes all throughout the concert to convey the concept of his “M.O.T.T.E” tour. “M.O.T.T.E” stands for “moment of truth the end”. It shows how G-DRAGON wants to share the truth behind himself as the successful and glamorous G-DRAGON and himself as the ordinary KWON JI YONG.

G-DRAGON showed off explosive charisma on the stage as powerful as the color red, the key color of the stage settings. On the other hand, G-DRAGON was a good son, a faithful friend, and a cute little brother to his parents, TAEYANG, comedian Jung Hyung Don, and close friends and staff members, who had sent video messages to him.

G-DRAGON performed a total of 21 songs. He first sang “HEART BREAKER”, and then moved on to “A BOY” and “ONE OF A KIND”. Afterwards, he sang “THE LEADERS” with CL. IU appeared on the stage as a guest and sang “Palette” along with G-DRAGON. He said, “IU gave me a fridge filled with soju as a present. She told me to drink them all before joining the military.” Then, he sang the songs in his new album “SUPER STAR” and “BULLSHIT” for the first time ever.

Talking about when he was making the album, G-DRAGON said, “It was a time to search who I really am, who KWON JI YONG is. The aim of this tour is to show myself in my most natural state. I tried to make the stage as simple as possible. The order of the performances starts with the songs in my first album, and at the end, I tried to show the least made-up KWON JI YONG.”

When the concert was nearing to its end, G-DRAGON talked candidly about what he felt. He said,”This has been my dream ever since I was a boy. I didn’t stop for one second. I feel good as if I’m living in a dream, but sometimes, I can’t tell whether this is a dream or reality. I’m trying really hard to find the passion I had when I first started. I hope you will stay by me no matter who I am—the humble KWON JI YONG or the glamorous G-DRAGON.”

G-DRAGON also talked about his mandatory military service. He said, “I’m joining the military next year. I don’t know what will happen. This may well be the last. After I’m done doing the military service, I’ll be 32 or 33. Will you be fine with that? I won’t be. I don’t think I’ll be able to have my fingers painted like this then.”

G-DRAGON then sang “THIS LOVE”, “CROOKED”, and “UNTITLED” and made the most of his time with his 40,000 fans.

The “M.O.T.T.E” tour is G-DRAGON’s third solo tour after his “SHINE A LIGHT” tour in 2009 and “ONE OF A KIND” tour in 2013.

After his concert in Seoul, G-DRAGON will hold concerts in 19 cities around the world: Macao, Singapore, Bangkok, Seattle, San Hose, LA, Houston, Chicago, Miami, New York, Toronto, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Oakland, Fukuoka, Osaka, and Tokyo. He plans to add more cities to his tour.

G-DRAGON’s “KWON JI YONG” Takes No.1 on Eight Charts, and Billboards Published an Article on His New Album

[이데일리 스타in=박미애 기자] G-DRAGON’s new album has been dominating the charts for three days in a row.

At 9 AM on June 10, the title track of G-DRAGON’s new album “UNTITLED” was at No.1 on eight charts: Melon, Genie, Naver, Bugs, Mnet, Soribada, Olleh, and Monkey3. Other tracks in his album are also ranked high on the charts. The music video of “UNTITLED” posted 7.58 million views on YouTube.

The US music magazine Billboard published an article dedicated to G-DRAGON’s new album. It wrote, “The BIGBANG member, whose given name forms the EP’s title, dropped the album on Thursday (June 8), offering up part of his soul through the five tracks……Renowned for his avant-garde approach to music, art, and fashion, G-Dragon tones things down for the lead track. For a single from one of K-pop’s most colorful artists, “Untitled 2014” comes as a bit of a shock. “

About “UNTITLED”, the magazine noted, “……he croons, not as the stage persona G-Dragon but as Kwon Ji Yong, the more private, intimate side of the 28-year-old Korean superstar who has been in the limelight since childhood.” Billboard also wrote, “……he showcased his softer side on ‘Untitled 2014,’ the rest of Kwon Ji Yong is a bit more experimental……An extremely personal work, Kwon Ji Yong puts G-Dragon’s inner thoughts out in the public through a variety of sounds but remains cohesive through its lyrics, as if requesting listeners to forget the singer’s celeb stature and momentarily hear the thoughts of a man struggling with the present he’s achieved through his past efforts.

Billboard went on to say, “Upon its release, it went to No. 1 on the iTunes Album Chart in the U.S., beating out Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Deluxe) for the top spot. According to Korean media, the EP topped iTunes Albums charts in 39 countries upon its release……”

G-DRAGON will kick off his solo world tour “ACT III, M.O.T.T.E” at the Sangam World Cup Stadium on June 10. He will perform the songs in his new album for the first time at the concert.
