BIGBANG’s “MADE” Album Release to Be Postponed

BIGBANG‘s full-length album “MADE,” scheduled for September 1, has been momentarily postponed.

On August 18, YG Entertainment announced that BIGBANG will be taking roughly three weeks in September to recuperate and perfect their album, “BIGBANG has been working without rest for these past four months, and we have decided that BIGBANG needs a period to recharge.”

Moreover, “As much as it’s a full-length album, BIGBANG members have expressed their desire to work on new additional songs for a more polished album. The three weeks we carved out in September for domestic broadcast promotions will instead be used to recuperate as well as work on the new songs.”

Meanwhile, BIGBANG is currently on their world tour, which has made stops in China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and more. Their next tour stop is Taipei, Taiwan in late September.

On August 5, CEO of YG Entertainment Yang Hyun Suk sat down with Korean news outlet Daily Sports to discuss the growth of his company, and share some personal details about his hit groups Winner, iKON, and BIGBANG.

YG Entertainment has made great strides into diversifying itself beyond its music entertainment label. After starting its own fashion line, Nonagon, the company has begun pursuing food services and recently set up a separate subsidiary called YG FOODS. Daily Sports' interview with the CEO took place at his recently opened restaurant. According to their report, they managed to pursue some more sensitive topics, but only after loosening Yang Hyun Suk up with some drinks of Johnnie Walker Blue!

"With BIGBANG releasing new songs every month, can you walk about the criticism the group and YG have received about monopolizing the spotlight," The Daily Sports interview opened up with.

"BIGBANG is one of the biggest leaders of the Hallyu wave. This is their first album it three years which YG feels like was released with great difficulty. Unlike other artists who focus on only a single round of promotions we wanted to highlight each track being released on this album. Since our promotions and are world tour are growing on a larger scale we wanted to show fans around the world videos for each song. Unfortunately domestic fans were upset because BIGBANG was not able to do promotions for "Sober" and "If You" due to their international promotions. We hope that fans can understand why we think it's better to reach beyond just the domestic market because BIGBANG is a group that has the potential to do so," Yang Hyun Suk replied.
He continued on to talk about fans assuming that delays in Winner's comeback and iKON's debut were due to BIGBANG's summer release schedule. "Because of BIGBANG, more people are finding out about our other groups like Winner and iKon. We our currently putting our all into BIGBANG's album since it has been three years but our other artists are also preparing albums," Yang Hyun Suk explained.

He continued on to say that other YG artists will be releasing music starting from September.

He also commented on the current girl group comeback way and 2NE1's lack of involvement, emphasizing that if CL's approaching US solo debut proves successful he believes it will have a good impact on 2NE1 as well.

Finally, he was asked about the BIGBANG's upcoming contract decision. "The members of BIGBANG grew up in the YG system," the CEO began, "and I have been with them for over 10 years. I don't think there will be objection [to renewing the contract."

"But even if BIGBANG does choose to leave YG then I will help them," he also added. "What I really want is BIGBANG to stay together. I want them to promote together as BIGBANG even when they're older, like the Rolling Stones, and I wish to help and support them along the way."

Yang Hyun Suk is known not only as managing his artists but treating them with a degree of distance and freedom not unlike a relationship between a parent and his children. Through this interview, he continue to show not only his undying support for his artists but also solidify why he is head of one of Korea's largest entertainment companies.

YG Entertainment Files Lawsuit Against Reporter for Libel Regarding Past Drug Scandal

YG Entertainment Files Lawsuit Against Reporter for Defamation and Suggestion of Drug Dealings

It has been revealed that YG Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against reporter “K” from an unnamed sports media outlet, citing defamation.

According to business and entertainment circles on August 18, YG is accusing the reporter of libel, and is suing for two cases at 100 million won (approx. 85,000 USD) each, reaching a total of 200 million won (approx. 169,000 USD).

The issues are various articles — in particular one written on the first of last month — written about Yang Hyun Suk as well as the suggestion that the he and YG are involved in drug dealings.

However, the reporter’s stance is that YG is not looking at the articles as a whole. “The article that YG pointed out from last month is mainly about asking prosecutors for a detailed investigation into YG, but instead of seeing the whole picture of the article, they are taking a single sentence and taking issue with that,” says the reporter’s representation.

Meanwhile, BIGBANG’s Seungri as well as an employee at YG Entertainment also filed defamation suits against the same reporter, asking for 50 million won (approx. 42,000 USD) and 30 million won (approx. 25,000 USD), respectively, at the beginning of this month.

Seungri’s case is about coverage of his car accident from September of last year, where police concluded that the cause was simple speeding. However, reporter “K” at the time presented the possibility of drunk driving.

The employee, “A,” is suing “K” for a report regarding a lawsuit by “A” against the Seoul Regional Military Manpower office, making personal issues public.

As with the case from YG, “K” likewise expressed frustration. The reporter’s rep stated, “Before Seungri was in the car accident, he was at a party. [The reporter] heard from an acquaintance of Seungri’s at the party that they had had drinks together, and was simply in his way collecting evidence and presenting a side.”

YG Entertainment (YG) announced on August 18, “We’ve decided that BIGBANG needs some time off to get recharged since they have been working non-stop for four months.”

BIGBANG’s agency added, “The members also said that they want to put some more time in making more songs for the new album as it will be a regular album. YG Entertainment and Yang Hyun Suk to sue reporter for 200 million won

YG.jpg

YG Entertainment and CEO Yang Hyun Suk are reported to be suing a reporter for 200 million won.

It is reported that both YG Entertainment and CEO Yang Hyun Suk will be pursuing a lawsuit against a reporter for libel.

Libel means defamation through slander, false rumors, or rumors without concrete evidence.

Last month, a sports reporter identified as K wrote an article regarding YG Entertainment’s relationship with the suspect caught with cocaine at Incheon International Airport after returning from Hong Kong following BIGBANG‘s concert and a fashion brand’s launch party.

Reporter K mentioned all of the past controversies that surrounded YG Entertainment and how the prosecution’s office wasn’t able to come up with a clear solution. He wrapped up his article claiming that it was finally time for the prosecution to prove themselves through this opportunity and gain the public’s trust again since many citizens wondered how YG Entertainment’s artists got out with no charges related to drugs when it would have been different for ordinary citizens.

The suspect, identified as Harry Kim, has proven his close relations with YG Entertainment’s artists such as G-Dragon and Sandara Park with various photos together on his SNS account. However, YG Entertainment has denied any relations with the cocaine bust nor the fact that Harry Kim ever worked full time at YG Entertainment.

Harry Kim is currently detained in a detention facility and is reported to have outed at least five people related to using drugs.

YG Entertainment and Yang Hyun Suk claim that the reporter defamed them by making and spreading false informed reports about them. Both YG and Yang Hyun Suk sued the reporter K for a total of 200 million totaling up to nearly $169,000 dollars USD.

However, the reporter K claimed he was innocent by stating that “YG Entertainment is only focusing on the couple sentences but my article’s intention was requesting the prosecution’s office to do a thorough investigation.”

[ +15401 / -2173] Like Park Bom’s incident, was there any time YG apologized or clearly revealed what really happened? It seems that Yang Hyun Suk has a lot of problems as well.

[ +12411 / -1373] Park Bom to be honest…

[ +11961 / -1203] False information..? Then you should explain it thoroughly yourself.

Seungri and YG employee also sue reporter 'K' + 'K's side speaks up

Big-Bang-Seungri-yang-hyun-suk_1439879017_af_org.jpg

In addition to YG Entertainment and Yang Hyun Suk suing reporter 'K', it's been revealed that agency artist Seungri and an employee have also filed lawsuits against the same reporter.

According to those in the legal field, the BIGBANG member filed against the reporter earlier this month for libel, asking for compensation of 50 million KRW (~ 42,000 USD). An employee under the agency also filed citing defamation, asking for 30 million KRW (~ 25,000 USD) in damages.

Seungri claimed in his lawsuit that although the police had ruled his car crash last year as being the cause of speeding, reporter 'K' brought up speculations about drunk driving. Meanwhile, the YG employee is suing about the article 'K' wrote on the employee's court case related to his military draft. Reporter 'K' previously reported on the employee losing his case in court and said that the employee bragged about being a 'high class YG employee' and brought harm to those around him by exposing his personal issues.

Regarding all these lawsuits, 'K's lawyer commented, "It's not that reporter 'K' has any special [ill] feelings towards YG, but rather that he brings up suspicions in his articles about the prosecution letting the agency off the hook in hopes that a celebrity in the entertainment world will also become a person who is respected on the aspect of his personal life as well. This kind of freedom of the press must be assured."
